Good morning ladies. I've never been so happy to have A/C as I am this wkend. We are having record breaking temps here on the west coast of BC. Its amost unheard of to have temps over 100 and we're getting that this wkend. Staying indoors most of the day, heading to dog park in early evening for a few hrs and then home for tv binging and late dinner. Tomorrow morning we'll head to the dog beach for a few hours before the temps hit over 90 by late morning.

Going to start pulling out my camera stuff and get some ready to sell on FB marketplace. I really don't use my dslr much anymore and haven't touched my fuji's hardly ever. I'm in love with my nikon p950 and now want to compliment that with the sony rx10 IV. Those two cameras should be my "forever" cameras, along with the newest iPhone for quick shots. My days of lugging around tons of lenses and heavy equipment are over. Can't do that with two dogs with me, I need to travel light.

Funny how life just keeps changing. Never thought I'd be doing this LOL.

Lynnie - good thing you are retired, you are so busy :)
Sylfie - I'll be thinking of you and really hope that you get to move in a positive direction, whatever that may be.

I have a lot of camera equipment, Rae. I still use my DSLR and love it. Old cameras I pass along to the kids. I only take the DSLR on photoshoots. :)
 
@Rae I cannot imagine BC. Temps, I’m too hot with alberta temps. Our house has been around 26 degrees C and spending most time in basement. This is supposed to last 8 days. We are freezing water bottles for the bunnies to cuddle to cool off. I filled some pans with water outside for the birds and outside animals like wild bunnies to get water from. Please stay cool.
 
@Ane my baby will be graduating in 2022 also. But he turns 18 next month. That means I have two adults and no babies. No empty nest for us though, I think they will both be around for a long time and I love it.
 
I wish we lived closer to our "boys" who are 22 and 24, but I have no idea how long they're going to stay where they are. But I miss them and Eren misses them, but I'm glad they're growing up as responsible young men. I'm not looking forward to empty nesting, but people survive it, apparently, so I will too.
 
I am not a total empty nester as my younger son, 31 is still at home going ot schoool for another year. My older son, 35 moved out when he was 18 when he got married. He is not far from us and we visit and do vacations together all the time so I am fine with him with his family. It's funny too cuz he was in an executive meeting at work when I called and he had to excuse himself and told the group, gotta take this, it's my Mom...we joke him all the time about it...LOL. He probably just wanted OUT of that meeting!

Lynnie, thanks for asking about my BIL, we are doing better. An unofficial service is being held at the river where he had the accident. NOT my choice but I have to go to support hubby and SIL so will be hard but I will make it through. My in-laws are great!

Another thing...now my brother has had a stroke, thankfully he is fine but he lives alone and I worry about him. I will be attending a dr's meeting with him soon, at his request so I am happy he asked me to accompany him.

Well off to watch the hockey playoffs...GO HABS GO!
 
I love to visit with the family and did enjoy having Jen come home for a yr but...now that we are empty nesters again, I am loving it. I don't have to cook so much and it's much quieter in the evening. My youngest only lives 5 min away so we do get to hang out quiet a bit. It'll be nice when I retire next yr and will be able to drive out to visit our our two daughters, one is about 1.5 hrs away and the other is many hrs away up the coast.

The temp reached 54 C today...yikes. I could only let the dogs out for a couple of minutes at a time b/c I was worried about them getting sunstroke and burning the pads of their paws. Today was the worst and the rest of the week it drops about 10-15°.
 
Just a quickie update, we took the Yorkies to the vet yesterday for their jabs and an overall wellness check, and found that Chocolatini had a badly infected uterus. She hadn't been symptomatic, or acting out of the ordinary beyond being a little 'chubbier' than normal, but she's also got delicate kidneys so we let her drink until she dang near pops, so the chubbs weren't anything out of her "ordinary" either. The vet asked if it would be okay to show us a picture of the fully removed 'stuff', and lord it was as big as Macchiata when she was born (2/3 of a dollar bill) It's supposed to be somewhere between a nickle and a quarter. She's resting easy, and I am using an ad-hoc setup at my partner's house. I am in an arm chair turned against the wall with the hallway table hijacked to fit my main screen and secondary screen, and my second laptop is on the arm chair, while my tablets are in a closed stack on the table next to me and I have a keyboard and mouse on my lap (which is way, way, way below desk height).

Chocolatini's doing okay so far, she's been a little groggy under the drugs, but she doesn't seem to be in pain, and she's still determined to move, and wants to be 'included' wherever we are. Which is why being at my partner's house makes this a lot easier, it's a shoebox, and we all have no choices on being separated. It's also closer to the vet, which is where we'll be going shortly to drop her off. The vet wants to run an IV line today during the work day to make sure Tini's got antibiotics and the stuff she needs to get better. Y'all I have never trusted a business as much as I do the veterinary practice there, and while it is an hour away from my place, and in another COUNTRY, I would drive it every time. They are just so, so good.
 
So sorry to hear of Chocolatini...hoping she will be back to good health soon.

What we do for our fur-babies! They just bring such joy to our lives. Glad you found out it before it became trouble and got things fixed. Hope she heals quickly.

Mom's TAVR surgery went GREAT! Bro said he could tell she was breathing better already in recovery. I just talked to one of the cardiologist's associates and they've done all the tests except the follow-up EKG and everything looks great for her to be released today. I'll be picking her up and staying with her a couple days, but it looks like the procedure was a success.

Carla - so glad your mom is doing well after the VAVR.
Karen - poor little Chocolatini, hope she will soon be well.

Our heatwave has broken and we're back to being in the low 80's. The birds are back to the feeders now and the dogs were enjoying being outdoors this morning.

Lots of desk work today but tomorrow is a holiday and looking forward to a restful day. Need to peruse Pinterest and find some new vegan recipes to try.

Whew...the heatwave is over. I went for a morning walk with my camera . I was so nice to wander thru the farm/garden nearby, only a few people where there and there was a soft breeze with warm temps. Got some nice flower shots and was back home at 9 for more coffee and am loading the pics now. I've been shooting jpegs and it makes it so much easier, not having to edit them.

Today will be housework, scrapping, playing/training with the pup and later will be going to the dogpark for a few hrs. What a nice way to spend my day off. Tonight we'll binge watch some shows, not sure what yet.

Carla - so glad your mom is doing well after her surgery. That must be a huge relief.
Sylfie - thanks for the update on Chocolatini. I have been more worried about you with so much going on in your life and having her feeling better must be a huge relief.
Rae - Glad heatwave has finally broken and you are able to be out and about taking pictures. The heatwave has been devastating in B.C. I can't even imagine living in California without air conditioning. I understand most of folks in that area do not have air, it is not usually needed.
Sherri - same for you! Hoping the heat is diminishing. How are the kids coping with it?

My friend left to go on holiday a week ago yesterday. She is a lovely lady, in her 70s, but has a very bad back and hips. She has moved several times in the last few years and she has TONS of craft stuff. In her last place, she did not even unpack the craft boxes because her craft cupboards needed to be reassembled. She moved last September and still had not got the cupboards back together. Closet World was charging her over $900 to put them back each time she moved. For her birthday, I offered husband Rand to put them together for her (with his permission and I did say TRY)! There were no plans, no instructions, half the braces were broken, and half the screws, etc. missing. We did not know that until we had dropped her at the airport and started putting them together. I also realized that she had over 100 boxes of stuff that needed to be opened and put away. The long and short of it is, we have been spending between four and seven hours a day there since she left putting together the cupboards and opening and putting away her boxes. Rand has two big cupboards and four small cupboards put together. He has to anchor everything to the walls still and then I will fill them. I have been putting away her kitchen and sorting out the boxes. She could never have done this alone.

When she gets back the goal is to have EVERYTHING put away, pictures on the walls and her house beautifully staged. She has never had that since I have known her and she will be so happy.

Normally, I would not do anything like this without the person present, but I know her well enough that this will be more than welcome. I have not touched her personal stuff, boxes of her finances, etc. Just her craft stuff, books, DVDs, etc.

And before you think I am such a nice person for doing this, she deserves it and more. She has been such a good friend to my family, especially my mother. When my mother was in hospital, (before COVID), Lois would sit with my mother all day and they would read together. She would bring her treats and was such a lovely, kind person. She spends most holidays with us as her family is in Chicago. She brings the most amazing Christmas presents for everyone. She deserves so much more than this and I am so grateful to have an opportunity to let her know.

I just hope I get things in the right cupboards LOL.

I will be glad when it is done, though.
 
Lynnie - wow, she is going to be so surprised and grateful for all your work.
Sherri - we are close to the lower mainland of Vancouver so no fires here, they are further away, in the interior of BC, but we do get affected by the air quality as the smog/smoke comes our way. Some summers it gets so bad that its like a dense fog that you can't see through very far.

I took Remi in to get spayed today. Seems weird to have the house quiet and her not here. Taz is taking advantage of the quiet and sleeping in my office. She'll be home tonight and groggy so I'll stay close to her, probably cuddle on the couch with her and get her into bed a bit early. I'll keep her close to me for the next 3-4 days to make sure her stitches don't open up and will have to make sure she stays fairly quiet, not a lot of running and playing for a few days.

I'm going to get to work now and hope to finish up around lunchtime so I can scrap for a few hours and watch some youtube videos.

Hey all you photoshop users...do you know how to get a white cap on the water like in the July Scraplift challenge. I did a LO and love the motion the white caps give but I work in a closed scrapbook program so I am not able to create the same. Any help is appreciated!! :)
 
Lynnie, wow, you are such a great friend! Can you come do my garage, LOL! Just kidding, it's pretty rough out there and we need to spend money to get it looking good.

Rae- I'm glad the heat wave has evaporated. I was really worried for you guys up there. Glad you are enjoying your doggos!

Sherri, I wouldn't have gone to the fireworks either, in that heat. Still debating whether I want to go tomorrow night. Hubby and child have to go early and I don't fancy sitting around getting sunburned/attacked by mosquitos.

Karen, I saw that LO too and would love to duplicate it also. I used to know how to create a digitally torn edge to paper but sadly cannot remember how to now. I just may get curious enough to Google it- I'll share what I learn if I do.

Karen, it looks as though it was done with a torn edge. You could probably use the blue one from this collection of edges:

Karen... Lynnie, that was my first thought too. HAS to be a torn edge and it's quite lovely, but I certainly don't remember how to create them so I was going to go searching my archives and the store for suitable choices. Now Lynnie has done it for me. THANKS GIRL! I do love how "think" her edge is though... WISH I could remember how to create that danged edge. Ane, if you happen to find a really good tutorial, please let me in. I'm in PSE though...

Here's another that's a bit simpler, and closer to what I used to do:

What I did was create a layer beneath the one I wanted torn (cut it to size then hide it before the next step) then filled it with white. I used the an eraser brush with a rough edge to create the torn line then nudged it so it peeked out from behind the top paper and selected and deleted the white part I didn't use. Voila! Super simple torn edge (without texture though. I don't have a pattern overlay that will work but maybe you do).

you could always duplicate the torn edge paper and drag it slightly to make the edge thicker. I am way too lazy to make my own!
 
Thanks everyone for all the help with the torn edged paper quest. I have so many options to choose from now and will be exploring some of them. :clap:

I’ve been busy this wkend selling camera equipment and just ordered a new camera. Can’t wait to get it in a few days.
 
Good morning, got pulled away by the dogs from the computer yesterday and never got to chat much. Remi is recovering really well from her surgery (spayed on Friday) and her big bandage will come off in a few days. She'll get a check-up next Sunday and then that should be it for awhile for vet visits. I'm having a great time being back as a CT here again. It really feels comfortable and I'm happy to be back here chatting with you all again. The months off were necessary as I dealt with Remi's (our mini aussie if anyone doesn't know) deathly illness the first few months and then lots of training and bonding with her. Things will always be active around here with an aussie (Taz our doodle is much more laid back) but I do have more time to myself now. If I could only get her to sleep a little longer that would be nice. We go to bed around 10:30 and she has me up around 5 or 6ish.

Hope you all had a great wkend. I'm getting a coffee and getting some CT work done now.

It's been an interesting weekend for me. I re-strained the right side of my back on Thursday (no idea how) and it hurts to move. I'm going to apply for more physical therapy, as I only have 2 visits left. Saturday, I watched (from home) a 4th of July parade that Eren participated in. They won the competition (some of you have seen my LO). Yesterday, I did the usual (church and nap) plus we went over some friends' house in the evening. We talked, played games and watched a bunch of illegal fireworks shows around their neighborhood. It was pretty fun! Today I was up and at 'em with more physical therapy and a grumpy child (do not know what triggered that) so it's been kind of a bummer day.
