Anne-Marie, I am sorry you are feeling down. So many things in life could be different if we had left a few minutes earlier or later, or made a different decision, or taken a different way home. November 21, 2012 I got out of my car, parked out on the street by my house and right when I got onto the curb, a car came hurtling around the corner and totaled my car. Less than 15 seconds earlier, I had been right where the car hit. My knees still go weak thinking about it. The woman was driving a rental car because she had totaled her own car less than a week earlier. I hope she is no longer driving.

I am so glad you are okay, and yes, we should pray for the families involved!

Alot has happened since I last posted but I am caught up now.

Anne-Marie, so glad you are safe and praying for all that need it. Lynnie, just wow, angels watching over you! We had a tragic accident happen in our city this summer that involved a bus of seniors on their way to a casino outing (first one since Covid) and the bus crossed into ongoing traffic and almost all of them died. So very tragic and the photos on the news were horriffic. AND...there was another accident at that very same intersection between a car and semi with of course, a not good outcome for the car. I am praying that they fix that corner of the Trans Canada Hwy to make it safer for everyone.

Shana, I loved your page on your pottery, have to post more of the finished products. My Mom used to do pieces when I was young and she loved it.

I finally have a weekend to myself and am hoping to join in on some of the fun challenges.

:)

Happy... I think today is Tuesday. It was one of those mornings where I woke up not knowing where I was or what day I was! That happens when I travel and don't get enough sleep.

Been an eventful and crazy weekend. Firing the raku pottery was blast (literally) on Saturday. I had two pieces that did not survive intact. One I think I can salvage, the other... not so much. But we had so much fun seeing how the glazes turned out. We saved back some pieces that we didn't do any glazes so that we could add natural ingredients to like horse hair, sugar, or feathers. It smelled awful, but the effects were pretty cool. I have so many photos that I need to process and then I can scrap!

Pottery firing was originally scheduled to last until 8 p.m. Saturday night, but by 11:30 p.m., we were still going... but that's when we HAD to leave. We got home about midnight, packed our suitcase, slept for about 4 hours, and then drove down to the state fair. Our friends' youngest daughter is a senior this year so it was her last year to show livestock. And her showtime was at 8:30 a.m. ... three hours way. Oy vey. But we made it. And I'm glad we did... she ended up getting reserve champion for one of her hogs, and I was able to capture it all. So I have those photos to process, too. LOL.

We walked around the fair for a little bit, but then we checked into out hotel and took a much-needed nap. Then went back to the fair. I had got sweet hubby tickets to the comedian that night. The comic had been in a lot of Adam Sandler movies, and we got great seats. I was able to snap a few photos right at the end of the show. After the performance, we went back to the hotel and back to bed.

Yesterday, our safety exhibit started at the fair. And just when the first show was about to begin... some youngster pulled a fire alarm somewhere in the building so we all had to evacuate! SMH. I'm sure there was one stressed out mama in that situation, but no harm done. We all filed in and started the presentation a little late, but it's all good. I got home early evening yesterday. Unpacked, did laundry, pulled the photos off the camera and onto the laptop... took one look at how many photos I needed to process... decided it could all wait another day, and went to bed.

I'm back at the office today, but hopefully I can work on the photos after work. I do need to swing by the pottery studio and claim our pieces at some point, too. Some of the pieces need some work (the glazes ran on some of them, creating sharp pools that need to be ground off with special tools). But others just need a good wash and they'll be ready to come home.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

So tell me, a Canadian, about a state fair, I see the kits, know about our small town fairs, but wonder if state fairs are along the lines of the Calgary stampede, or just what?

Lynnie glad things are going well for you and the kiddos, and you feeling better. Your letters for your backup system lost me. Raid etc.

‘’to…. The pottery sounds like loads of fun

to …. Sylfie hugs, I gotcha girl, take it from long lived experience that 8 years is a better lost investment than 30ish. Really get out of the job asap if you can, a job will never reward you for sacrificing, just use and abuse you more. Find something better and healthier for you.

‘’to…. Rae that realtor was gross.

to …. Karen, yup Costco is hella expensive to walk into.

im still having significant pain, went to the local cardiac device clinic, they say things are healing well, the pain should subside. I got to where my t-shirt that says “not today hades”. A offshoot of the quote “what do we say to death? Not today”

Shana, what a weekend you had! I think I'd need a weekend to recover from that weekend!

Sherri, good to see you back here! So sorry you're still in pain. I'm still praying for you. (((HUGS)))

I had an excellent time at my craft day, but before I went, we discovered that Guns & Roses had been postponed due to illness. Big bummer, but it freed up my day. Eren came home for a visit and we had a nice Sunday together.

I'm waiting for my ride to go see a movie with the girls, only I won't know who invited me until I see who picks me up, LOL! I have no idea who texted me, but I'm sure I'll have fun, since I know all the other ladies going. Tomorrow we're going to dinner with friends, and other than that, I have no plans for the week.

Have a great week, everyone! :)

Shana, I always feel busy, but I feel as though you pack more into a day than most pack into a month! It all sounds like loads of fun, though. I never end up going to fairs, even county fairs, due to the sheer volume of people. Crowds stress me a little. I used to panic when I had too many people around me. To be honest, I still do, but I don't cry anymore. I was trampled when I was a teenager, and I just don't like the feeling of too many people around. I do go to some local fairs, but not very often. Your pottery sounds wonderful.

Ane, too bad about Guns and Roses. That would have been fun. Still, there is always a silver lining. I love the element of surprise on the movie haha.

Sherri, I am so sorry you are still in pain. I had a relatively minor surgery a few years back where they removed a part of the colon. There were six incisions, and one had a stitch running through a nerve. It hurt so much every time I moved. I can't even imagine it on the scale you are experiencing. You are really something! We have to schedule another Zoom so you can enjoy everyone when you are feeling a bit better.

I have my NAS (Network Attached Storage) running again, so I am very happy. Sherri, it is really just a fancy name for a group of external hard drives that I can access from anywhere on my network. The RAID (redundant array of independent disks) means that the disks are mirrored, so if one fails, another takes over. Sort of a fancy backup. I can actually access my NAS from anywhere, so I don't have to carry external hard drives with pictures and what have you. I like that freedom. Of course, then it gets complicated. I used to manage stuff like this at work, but things get increasingly advanced. I like to just have my son work on it all. He is so happy to play with all my fancy equipment.

I had a sort of busy day today, but nowhere near as crazy as Shana's :) I made curtain ties for my neighbour. They were huge! I have never seen curtain ties that long, but that is what she wanted. That took a few hours. She is 90, and we do all kinds of stuff for her. The elevator in our building is out of commission, so we have to carry her groceries, laundry, etc., up and down the stairs. We open jars, thread needles, add contacts to her phone, and show her how to text pictures :) Her family is so grateful for us. They sent us a basket of fruit every year. We just like helping her; she is an enchanting little lady, and I love her to bits.

I also attended a reunion committee meeting for the Class of '73's 50th reunion. I graduated in 1972! I have friends in class '72, so I volunteered to help. :) I have to say, I really do enjoy helping. I am making their name tags, taking photographs, and creating a memory book/directory for the attendees.

Then, I did my son's laundry. He dropped it off before work and picked it up after. Their washer broke. It was supposed to be delivered Monday, but the truck broke down, and it is now being delivered Wednesday, and he needed clothes for tomorrow. I volunteered.

I cooked curried chicken and broccoli with mushrooms for dinner. It was very good.

Well that is my life :)

Sherri... So how to describe a state fair… so it’s basically a large public event that happens in late summer / early fall in each of the states with rides, games, competitions, shows, and lots of food. It’s a culmination of exhibits that happened earlier at the county fairs (such as livestock, art, cooking, crafts, etc.). Vendors will come and show the latest and greatest. Communities will have booths to encourage tourism. Politicians will hold forums and will meet and greet their constituents. It’s a way to celebrate what makes each state unique and to celebrate our heritage.

The Kansas State Fair is one of the smaller fairs. Ours lasts 10 days and isn’t too massive (which is lovely for those that don’t want too big of crowds). We will have around 300,000 people attend (compared to the millions of attendees at the Texas or Iowa State Fairs). It’s continuingly evolving. Each year, there are new exhibits and attractions. I was on a committee this past year that installed a new educational park. This year, another building was taken down and a new one with more tech is being installed that will have more flexibility with how it can be used both during fair season and non-fair season (like a huge wedding venue). Let me know if you have more questions!

great explanation. Thank you. We have the local fairs with the rides, food, displays, livestock, etc, but don’t have the politics, , the culmination of stuff, or the celebration of our heritage. Like our city fair has a parade Wednesday morning, gates open at noon that day, rides, exhibition, food, displays, chuckwagon races nightly, and fireworks nightly, and music generally Thursday thru Saturday, my city has 100,000 in it fair has attaché of about that over the 5 days.

‘’Lynnie IT confuses me so much.

Does anyone have wonderful plans for the weekend? I am babysitting Saturday and working to catch up on other things on Sunday, then babysitting again Monday. Some days I feel as though I spend my life catching up :) I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nope, no wonderful plans this weekend. BUT, just a few days of work next week until I retire which is VERY wonderful!

I have the usual plans this weekend. Shopping and watching college football (only my team though). Sunday will be church and maybe Eren will be here to watch some of "our" stuff together. :)

Craving Fresh Baked Sugar Cookies--we now have a low calorie option available

The GingerScraps Sugar Cookie Team is looking for GS members who would like to share the love by making wonderful, meaningful, comments in the gallery.

Yes, you will get some free kits, but IMHO the people you will meet, the friends you will make, and support you receive will be just as wonderful as the rewards you earn. I'm proud to call this amazing group of ladies my friends and cookie family.

Here's the "nutritional" breakdown of the Sugar Cookie position, pick your "calories"

100 gallery comments & 4 Baker's Best nominations per month (one per week): this will earn you the DD(Daily Download) & FWP(Free With Purchase)

200 gallery comments & 4 Baker's Best nominations per month (one per week): this earns you the DD/FWP & MM (Monthly Mix) along with up to two kits with combined value of $10 (some exclusions do apply)

You also have the opportunity to earn additional free kits by doing 450 or 600 comments per month along with the Baker's Best nominations.

We aren't a non-stick surface, some of us have been stuck to the platter for a looooonnnnnnggggggg time now. If you stick with us for 6 months, there is an additional bonus.

I'm not going to tell you it is easy or that it doesn't take time, but if you feel you can carve out some time to leave love every month, the cookie platter is the place to be. If you aren't sure how to do a Baker's Best nomination, I've got your back with a tutorial.

Please send a brief bio & your e-mail to quilter......I will email you a few things...and, get you started.

I just want to add that the Cookie group is amazing. All those lovely comments we read are so thoughtful. I would really encourage you to join if at all possible. It is a very worthwhile activity.

I would also encourage those who don't want to climb on the Cookie Platter to spend a little time in the gallery and comment. It is a kind and thoughtful thing to do.

I absolutely agree with Lynnie. Being a sugar cookie is very rewarding and that is how I started out here.

I love being a cookie...the ladies on the cookie platter have become my very dear online friends.

Is anyone else craving sugar cookies right now? LOL!

So I now have two nephews who have SO who are professional cookie makers. And here I am... having given up eating sugar! Uff da! Maybe I can convince them to make me sugar-free cookies? LOL!

Today I woke up early and watered the new landscaping in our front yard. Then I cheered on one of the nephews for his cross country meet. He earned 5th place and got a shiny medal. I got some fun photos of him and he was all smiles!

Then I came home, worked on chores and did some more clean up work on the ceramic pieces I had made. The pieces should be done by tomorrow... just have to add felt or cork on the bottoms and voila... they're ready for display or gifting!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to do some scrapbook pages from last weekend and this weekend's activities. Next week is going to be a busy one with lots of in-state travel and evening events. So no time to myself for most of the week. Meh. At least that will make the week go quickly. Hope everyone is having a great one! :)

TOTALLY CRAVING Sugar Cookies too Shana!!!
I really thought about signing up for this. I just don't know if I have more time to add to my day, but I love looking through the layouts.

Happy Monday!

Well, I got my ceramic pieces all finished (all but one that I'm debating if I want to add some gold leaf to the inside of the bowl or leave it as is). I got all of my photos processed and ready to scrap. And I got exactly zero scrapbooking pages done. But I might have a bit of time after work tonight... fingers crossed.

I have 70 people coming tomorrow for a 2-day retirement seminar. Then I have a our statewide member services meeting in another town for the rest of the week. I will need to back tomorrow night and have my luggage ready to go as soon as the seminar ends... I will need to book it to the other meeting. But it's doable, I just can't dilly dally around. I'm excited about the first session for our member services meeting... it's all about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how we can use it as an effective and ETHICAL tool.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Funny, we should mention craving sugar cookies - I am baking a bunch for a shower this weekend. Somehow it went from doing the invitation for the baby shower to the invite, tracking RSVPs, games, cookies, cake, cupcakes, sandwiches, drinks, favours, decorations, tables, tablecloths, napkins, plates, cutlery, chairs, and a million other things. It is my daughter's friend, haha! Not sure exactly how that happened. Fortunately, my daughter and I are doing it together. It is Winnie the Pooh-themed, so it will be adorable.

Good afternoon ladies.

Shana - oh boy, 2 professional bakers in the family, that is dangerous LOL.

Lynnie - not surprised you ended up doing so much, don't you always? You are the busiest person I know.

Carla - did you apply? It does feel good to spread some LO love, doesn't it!

I'm organizing and purging, getting things ready for the move (if it happens this fall). The buyers still have a month to sell their place so it's a waiting game right now. Otherwise, the house goes back on the market in the spring. Fingers crossed.

I am not scrapping as much lately b/c of the house hunting/selling and also trying to get things ready for our cruise next month.

Night time is tv binging for a few hours before bed. Just finished season 1 and 2 of Hidden (Welsh mystery).

Hope everyone is well.

Shana, 70 people is a big group, I used to do some seminars and it was always fun to see how excited they were and now it is me...last day tomorrow FOREVER! Excited, JUST A WEE BIT!

Lynnie, I am sure your treats will be awesome, you are so busy! My trip to LA is coming up soon, hoping you are saving some nice weather for me? The weather here is still kinda nice but you can feel the chill at night already. We will have to see if we can connect. PM me when you have time...LOL.

Rae, hope things work out for you with the house, a tough market these days.

Carla, I am the same. I think about signing up, but don't. I don't really have a good reason why.

Shana, how did the seminar go? I look forward to seeing your pottery!

Lynnie, it seems like everything you touch turns out golden. I'm sure the baby shower will be a hit. :)

Rae, I really hope your buyers come through. That would be an awesome win for you!

Karen, how does it feel knowing you are officially retired? Woo hoo! I hope you have a celebration of some sort. :)

Me, I'm just living my life, doing my CT work, scrapping for fun. Last night I made some fall-themed T-shirts (iron-on transfers). This weekend is homecoming for Eren's school, so we're going to a volleyball game tomorrow night and a couple of events Saturday (like a fun run/walk). I will probably be exhausted when I get home, whenever that will be, LOL.

[QUOTE= Karen, how does it feel knowing you are officially retired? Woo hoo! I hope you have a celebration of some sort. :)

Well it hasn't sunk in yet since it has only been about 7 hours now...LOL! My actual retirement date is not until December 30th but I have tons of leave to use up so a bonus for me to be off earlier and not have to commute in the winter. Hubby is very happy to have me home everyday, he has been retired for 15 years already.

We are tackling a few house jobs since we had foundation issues last year and still working on my Mom's estate then it will be ME TIME. All my "real" friends from the old days are all retired for a few years so one gal is going to gather everyone up in a few weeks and they will have a get-together for me. They all are such a fun group and I have done retirement parties for most of them so they "owe" me, right?

I just had a small gathering with my team at work but they bought me a beautiful hand-made cutting board with a retirement verse burnt into it, it is lovely. It will be perfect for my coffee station. Stay tuned for my layout.

Thanks Ane... that's so me. I think about it, but just don't do it. For me, I DID think about it, long and hard and I just don't have the time to add another thing right now. If they ask again, I may consider it.

Karen I am just SO darned happy for you! How lucky that you have that much banked time that you can be done already. Glad hubby is happy too. That was a huge adjustment for us to have Freddy home all the time. He is NOT a homebody so he really had to find things to do outside the house too. Not that any of the "things" in the house are getting done, mind you. Still have to bug him about that. LOL

Lynnie, not that you need another title, but you should really be a party planner. You have the touch!

Well, starting to freak out a bit. TWO WEEKS from the wedding. I know I shouldn't be anxious, but just thinking about the sheer magnitude of walking that I'll have to do in the airport sends shutters. We're calling for traveler's aide going out so hopefully that will help. My knees are just shot. I'll have my cane. But Vegas! I mean, it's huge! The wedding is at the hotel we're at; Paris, so that helps. Then we'll Uber/taxi down to Mandalay. I'm just starting to get kinda nervous. TALK ME DOWN, PLEASE!

BUT OMG!!! She's gorgeous! I mean, I loved her first dress. It was so simple and flowy and rather boho and that's kind of Lacy. But they were getting married in a park. Kolten was five. And Shawn has really never intended on getting married. God rest his sweet soul. But this is WEDDING! She's got A DRESS! Off the shoulder gown, tight-fitting, just a little train. And she's got the body for it. DANG KID! (did NOT take after her mom, thank God!) I made her veil and that goes a good three feet beyond her dress. It's stunning... Okay, I have to show you. Sorry, bragging mom here. Nick and Kolten are going to wear matching blue suits. I'm so excited. Kolten is the "best dude". hehehe... Anyway, the whole thing is making less anxious about the airport and flying and Vegas and I'm just so thrilled that it's finally happening.

Oh, my goodness, Carla! She is gorgeous and that dress is so pretty! I know that you are so proud and happy. The plane ride will be just a small distraction in your day and will be over in no time. The airport should be able to provide an escort for you since you have a hard time getting around on those knees. It may cost a bit extra but would be well worth it for you. I flew to Indiana alone when I was 15 and Delta provided an escort for me in Atlanta. No way I would have made that 2nd flight otherwise. Good luck to you and I share your joy!
