Hello everyone! Hope your having a great week so far. I had to get some groceries today not one of my favorite things to do. Just never know what I want... not fun cooking for one... Also had a few other stops to make along the way. Wore me out... so taking it easy the rest of the day.
Shana I love the idea of all the fathers and grandfathers writing letters, such a sweet memory keeper for your family. I have a cousin who has done a lot of digging in our family history and has printed a couple family books. I have the latest one and enjoy reading the history in our family. My cousin has traveled a lot to gather all the info.
Lynnie I like Autumn and Fall, but winter comes to soon...
Well you ladies have a wonderful day and I will try and stop by again soon.

Oh, I have again been nominated for LOTW. :) I'd love your vote, but if you find one prettier than mine, vote for it! Mine's entitled "Faith." You can vote here.

It was my nomination that put you in there Ane, I loved what you did with the colour spritzes and back on photo perspectives tug big time at my heartstrings. Good luck!

A question...do you ladies vote for yourselves when your page is in the poll? I struggle to do so when my LOs are in it (my early upbringing back in the 40's 50's at play there I think) and, because I nominate a page every week as part of my cookie role, it's a no brainer to vote for the LO I nominated otherwise why would I put it there....so 1 vote from me Ane.

Hello Folks,

I usually try to make sure I say something about everyone's posts, but I'm just too dang tired!!

Sherri, it was lovely talking to you and Alexis. We should do it more often. We are all so blessed to have video chatting. I remember when I was young, and we were lucky if we could hear someone internationally when we phoned; there were so many echoes. Bruce does have speech therapy, and he is at least attempting to communicate now, but his word formation is very poor. I am unsure why; everyone talks to him, and he is bright. Well, we will see.

Michi, I had to laugh about the genealogy! We worked out that my Mum was not my grandad's daughter. At least, we think so. We have a DNA match who has come out of the woodwork and is descended from my nan's next-door neighbour. My brother and I decided to keep that under our hat while mum was alive. My nan seemed so straight-laced growing up; I can't even imagine.
It also explains why I have no DNA matches on my granddad's side. He will always be my grandad. We think that the person who is my mum's natural dad died as a very young man. Then, when you are doing genealogy, do you build your tree from the DNA grandad or the paperwork grandad? What a question :)

I am doing a new program with my friend. it is 75 days of diet, exercise, and personal improvement. It is kicking my bottom!

I don't vote for myself for the same reasons you don't! It just feels rude and conceited. However, I think that we should make an exception for your layouts because they are clearly the best.

ahhhh Lynnie you always give my ever flagging ego a wonderful boost and you made me chuckle today((()))

What an interesting question, and I bet you're right that the answers will be based on which generation in which you were raised. I am your typical Gen Xer... so yes, I would vote for my own layout UNLESS I see a layout that I thought was better / more unique / clever use of techniques.

Happy Wednesday!

Jill-As for LO of the week, I'm not eligible since on the site CT team. I would say- vote how it pleases you.

Lynnie- I get you on the surprises regarding the DNA. I have basically built the tree I have having the DNA person present. Example on my half sister it shows her as a child of our mother, connected to Mama, but not with Daddy. I left her bio- father off the tree [since he had nothing to do with me]. Not sure how things are listed on her tree. I will go and look one of these days. Yes, her paternal side was discovered. She has a half sister via the "sperm donor" [her words, not mine]- who is older than her.

More progress in the crochet department. I will post once the Santa blanket is completed.

My good news from yesterday's medical appointment. I am released from the neuro-surgeon! The fracture in my back is healing nicely although the degenerative disc /tissues and whatever else floats around there remain present. I am allowed to exercise as I can tolerate without overdoing it.

m

Michi, I think the difference in the tree is that we don't know for sure who my mother's father was. We believe it is the next-door neighbour, although it could be his brother. It is really just a guestimate based on location and probable DNA relationship. I don't think I can build a credible tree based on that. Plus, all the documentation indicates my grandfather is her father. I have to do some more investigating. My cousin, Shirley, had her DNA done and we are going to see if we get similar results, or if we are able to get DNA relationships with my grandfather.

Jill, I like Shanna's answer. Vote for yourself unless you can see another you like better.

My son and his wife just announced the new baby will be a GIRL! We are pretty excited, the four we have are boys. I would have been just as excited for a boy, but there are more fun clothes for girls haha. I sense a spending spree in my future.

That was the happy news. The sad news is that I scheduled an appointment to have our cat put to sleep. I have been going round and round and round about it, but I think it is time. We are having it done at home on Friday. He has been sinking for the last few months, but he walks hunched as though he is in pain all the time and can't eat. He is somewhere between 17 and 21. The vet who gave him to us said it would cause more pain to get him diagnosed, and it would not be kind to prolong his life through surgery or other means. He has been the best cat, but he is pretty old. I couldn't even talk on the line with the vet, I was so upset. My husband said he didn't think he could be here. We sure do love that cat.

Congrats Lynnie on finding out the gender and knowing a bit of pink mixes in with all the blue! Yes, Little granddaughters are a lot of fun. I'm sad about your cat. Our 'grandkitty' went during the past year.

We are scheduled rain today and a cold front coming in! That's a big deal for Florida folks. Hurricane Ian lowered our temperatures a bit, but these rain bands are coming from Karl with a north front that is cool pushing in. Looks like I will get to fix a pot of chile! That's our tradition for the first one, followed by red beans and rice.

m

Michi, chili is on the menu at our house, as well. I do love this time of year when the temperatures start to drop but it's not yet too cold. I also make a lot of Hello Fresh meals. (And I always seem to have free boxes to give out if anyone wants one... I just need an email address and then they'll send you the details to create an account). Last night, I made a "Spicy Harissa Barley Bowl" with Zucchini, Golden Raisins, Spicy Herb Sauce & Lemon Yogurt. It was good last night and I'm eating the leftovers for lunch now... and man.... the spice has gotten spicier! LOL! Could someone pass me a glass of water? LOL.

Lynnie... congrats on the granddaughter. I agree... the little girl clothes are always so cute!

I am on the best eating plan in the world. I have probably a dozen recipes for great chili. Last week I made a sweet potato chili and a quinoa black bean chili. They are amazing. I cut down on the spices a bit, but not too much. They have just enough bite that you can still experience the resonant flavours.

Our appointment for Tiberius is tomorrow. I worked a little cleaning him up today. His fur has become a little matted here and there, and I removed the mats with a furminator. It does not appear to hurt him when I pull them off. His eyes have been weeping, so I bathed those, too. I think I had just not noticed how woebegone he had become. We have done this from time to time, but he really needed it today. I did not do too much because he is just not well.

I took Mark to take care of his benefits (he is disabled). This is the second time I have had to get up before 6 to wait in a 2-hour line before they open. We got it done, though, which is excellent, and got the necessary evidence so we could apply for an ID. Now we just need to take care of his medical benefits. He is online taking care of that today, I hope.

Hi everyone, Caught up with everyone's news...Congrat on the baby news Lynnie, a girl amongst 4 boys will be nice. Also glad to hear that your granson is doing well. Oh O-Lord, about your Mother's Father!! Mich, glad you on the mend, Hubby had his surgery too (generative disc disease) he is doing well and is finally pain free. Shauna, I too have been cooking up a storm. Used most of my tomatoes and peppers and made Roasted Red Pepper and Tomatoe soup (so tasty), canned 4 large jars. Ane, congrats on the LOTW, sorry I missed it. Alta, I know about cooking for less, just the two of us now and I always make too much. Hubby does not care for leftovers either. Jill, I usually leave it up to chance if I get nominated.

Have been MIA for a bit, hubby surgery as I mentioned and Mom has had a few eye appointments. Her vision has never been good and it is getting worse, almost no vision in her right eye now. Waiting for a second appt to see the surgeon for laser surgery to maybe restore some of it. My son moved out of province in July and I have been missing him but he came home for a short visit this week. Mainly to pick up the rest of his belongings that he could not fit in his car and to celebrate his birthday a bit early with us. We only had 3 days and it just flew by so fast. He is so happy with his new job, he is a massage therapist and loves his living quarters and all his new friends. The focus on my scrapbooking lately has been trying to keep up with all his adventures, that one is a climber right from a toddler, he is climbing mountains now. So happy to see him so at peace with his career and homelife, even if it is hundreds of miles away. Maybe I will make it out there for Christmas this year, a snowy mountain Christmas might be nice for a change.

Well I guess I caught you all up now, take care until next time.

Hi everyone. Just popping in to say hi while I relax and watch La Brea tv show. The pups are getting a bit older (almost 2) and they are able to settle down at night now without so much play time with jumping around and barking. After dinner we usually get in the hot tub for 1/2 an hour or so and then I get ready for bed, having an hour or two to relax, watching TV with hubs.

I'm going to see the salmon run at Adams Lake on Sunday with a naturalist group who will talk about the salmon, plants and whatever else we find along the way. We should see lots of hawks and eagles along the river. Should be fun. I'll of course be taking photos along the way.

Lynnie - congrats on the new grandbaby that is coming and sorry to hear about your kitty. Never easy to go through that.

Karen - a snowy Xmas would be great! We may or may not have snow here but if not, there should be some about 30 min away, further uphill, so I am planning to get outdoors to enjoy it with the dogs. After 45 yrs of almost no snow I am excited about living in an area that gets snow.

I've started taking fall photos but the season is late this year, it has been warmer than usual but the colors are starting to come out in the trees. I love this time of year.

Time to get another ginger/tumeric tea and watch another show. Take care everyone.

Hello Ladies!
Lynnie- Congrats on it being a girl! My oldest sister had 6 boys and then finally had a girl... so exciting! So sorry to hear about your cat, but it's better than letting them hang on in pain, my heart aches for you. HUGS
Perfect time for chilies and soups. you all are making me hungry for chili so might have to make a batch soon.
I don't like voting for myself in the Baker's Best, And I feel bad when I see a layout that doesn't get any votes. I try to pick one that has something unique about it. Wish everyone could win... at least once... Well ladies I hope you all have a great weekend! Will pop in again soon!

Lynnie - I am so sorry about the decision you had to make, big hugs.

Michi - I am that sister that made the call saying did you know your father is my father. Really really awkward as I grew up in a very very small town and I knew all these people just not as aunts uncles cousins and siblings. They told me I was definitively not a relative and have never talked to me since. All DNA centimorgans prove it, and there are zero other possibilities (once I ruled out the half brothers ewww).
I keep everything on my tree as there are adoptees I would love one day to reconnect with. My Mom had 4 girls with 4 men over 12 years. It was a different time then. I don't hold anything against her for getting pregnant but the lies afterwards really affected each of our lives.
I am having a really hard time adapting to my new glasses. I get one spot where they work well, then everything else is blurry.

I finally caught up on very one who commented here.
Congrats and condolences where needed.

Geneology... My mother is one of 9 siblings. Here parents died when she was 13 and 15. She was one of the youngest. All of them or gone now... but they were spread across the US after her parents' deaths. I never really knew much about them. They weren't really close to each other either. I've tried a couple of times on Ancestory and run into road blocks and stop search. Loosing charge.. gotta run... will finish later...

Hi everyone! It's a joy to come back from a trip and read all your posts! I could have checked up on y'all every day, but I was tired at the end of every day (that's when I had wifi).

Lynnie, congrats on the girl grandbaby! Girls are so fun- you can buy them all the frilly girl things and a few of the boy things as well (our granddaughter wears dinosaurs all the time). Sorry to hear about your cat. I live in fear of something happening to our cat and then having to tell Eren. But thankfully she is healthy if a bit overweight.

Karen & Rae, I love living in a place where it snows! We've lived in so many places where it doesn't snow. Oh, you should have seen Eren the fist time it snowed our first year here! Pure joy!

Chili sounds so good right now! We're going through a cold snap also, though it will be back to 80 on Sunday. Sigh. Our trip to NJ was nice, but too short. Not enough time with Eren, LOL! It was parents' weekend, so we were kept busy but still had a little downtime, which is just what I need. We got back very early this morning (flight from Chicago kept getting delayed- we were there 6 hours). So I am short on sleep and a little slap-happy. :)

Ane, The snow is not the problem, here we have brutal temperatures can get to -40C, when the weather is milder I like the snow and often go cross country skiing and I enjoy winter walks in the park where there are so many birds and wildlife to see. Hoping this year will be better than the last year. I do also enjoy going south to enjoy some of those warm winters in Arizona.

Howdy all! It was fun catching up on all the posts. Today was the first day of the season that our temps hit freezing. I'm out of town for a mini conference this week and I had to be sure to dig out my winter coat. We are about to leave the hotel and it's currently 35 degrees F... so I'm so glad I brought my coat. I'll be able to grab some coffee or hot tea or hot chocolate when I go through the lobby. I'm glad I brought my laptop with me... when the group goes out tonight and tomorrow night, my plan to get all snuggled back up in my room and hopefully work on some layouts. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello Ladies! Hope your week is going well. It sure has cooled down here, it got down is the 30's... Autumn and Fall needs to last a little longer.... Not looking forward to a cold winter. My bones are screaming NOOOOOO!... Getting ready to work on a couple challenge layouts... hoping to get at least 10 done for the month. You all have a great day... and stay warm... :)

Happy Wednesday! We got the cold snap- the first of the season. I got to wear jeans today!!! I'm cold, but crocheting to keep warm and making chile for dinner this evening. Getting closer to completion on this Santa Afghan for my daughter.

Sherri-My sister called called me after we had done a series of emails [via her cousins wife /as she doesn't email, text, computer, internet.......]. To be honest, we have never had an awkward conversation regarding family, history etc. I was able to provide her with information and she was able to provide the same for me as she was adopted by our biological great aunt [Grandma's sister and her hubby]. Mama was child #7 so not many photos around for her. I guess they went to the older siblings. Violet [adoptive mom] was older than Grandma so she had access [I'm assuming] to the photos of that generation along with information.

I sure hope your glasses adjust for you.

Lily Ann- I'm still trying on Ancestry. Every once in a while I get a DNA hit with a helpful person.

Karen- I couldn't imagine a -40C!

Shana- Stay warm. Glad you have your coat with you.

Hello All,

Another hectic week. Tomorrow will be my first day off from my crazy life in a while. All I have to do is shop, cook, and take hubby for an x-ray. I have been cooking, baking, crafting, all kinds of goodies. I will be delighted to have a bit of a rest.

Hello lovelies,

I know I have been very quiet. I have been lost in my feels. My niece passed away, she was 2 months old. It has been rough, I am heartbroken, and work never stops. It's. Really terrible. I'm having difficulty with more or less normal functionality.

I hope you're all doing well, and am hoping I can try to normalise my function sometime in the near future.

Sylfie, I'm so sorry to hear about your niece! I had a stillborn son quite a few years ago, so I understand. Babies should not die. I was on what one therapist called "minimum mode" for a while after that, but I didn't have to function for a job either. My hopes and prayers go out to you. (((HUGS)))

Just thought I would let you all know I read your posts and wish and pray for the best for each of you. I want you to know I am still here but have had some of my children come to help clean the basement and house. We got a mouse problem and needed to get the stuff cleaned up and the mice gone. I think we have been able to do that. They have also been here to help with their dad. He is doing okay for right now but we just try and keep him comfortable. I enjoy the time we have together. Between taking care of him and cleaning I have not had much time working on my scrapbook pages but am keeping up with the journaling. My only problem is I am not getting photos taken every day. In a few days I will get working on scraping. I hope the best for all of you.

How did everyone's weekends go?

Our local farmer's market closed for the year, so we didn't go shopping as early as we normally do. We spent the rest of the day watching college football and doing chores, as per usual. :) Sunday we went to church and sang Christmas tunes with the choir we're in. We have some challenging music and that makes it more fun.

This week I have a bunch of medical stuff going on, like getting my flu shot and covid booster. Fun!

Sylfie, I am so sorry for your family's loss. I lost a daughter and grandson, there is no worse pain than the lost of a child. Praying for you and the rest of the family.
