I don't think we have a book pick for August...so I was curious...

What'cha reading?

I picked up The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins which is the prequel to the Hunger Games Series...it tells the story of President Snow. Sooooo good! I'm about halfway done and if they don't come out with a movie for this one I'll be seriously disappointed!

I also grabbed Midnight Sun which is the Twilight story by Stephenie Meyer told from Edward's perspective. That one is next on my list!

That sounds really fun...I love when authors give us more to the story!

I just finished "I Wish You All the Best" by Mason Deaver. It's a story about a nonbinary young adult who gets kicked out of his house when he came out to his parents. He went to live with his sister. The story tells about his trials and tribulations about his feelings and fitting in. It was an easy read. I read it in three sittings... didn't want to put it down!

I need to get those two too, Cindy!

I'm reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. It's different than I thought it would be, which is good! I'm about halfway through and am enjoying reading about her early life.

I downloaded a sample of Outlander after it was mentioned on another scrap site. It was pretty good, so I'm gonna see if I can get it on my kindle or from the library.

I'm reading Ninth House (fantasy) and I'm enjoying it, it's an easy fast read. I got Midnight Sun for my granddaughter for her birthday and reserved it at our digi library. It should come in just about the time I give her her copy for her birthday in September. We'll be able to facetime and talk about it each evening. Her brain injury short term memory loss is really bad but she remembers the characters from the previous books (pre-sickness) and with prompting from me should be able to read a few pages and discuss it with me or will just listen to me talk about it.

The same goes with "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes". I will get that one for us too and since she rememembers the characters from the other books she will be able to discuss it a bit with me and know the characters I talk about. I didn't even realize that book was out so now I'll have two great books to give her next month.

Rae, I'm sorry to hear about your granddaughter...but that's awesome you both share a love for reading and her knowing the characters and stories these 2 books should be great reads for you to discuss.

The story of president Snow will introduce a lot of new characters, but you'll find an underlying family tree happening that she should be able to relate to the Hunger Games stories she remembers. No spoilers...but it's really good!

This was a movie? TV series? No? I vaguely remember hearing about it...gonna check it out!

So I finished I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and moved onto The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which I picked up at Sam's. I finished that in 3 days and bought the e-book of Midnight Sun yesterday. I'm about a third of the way through that one. It's so interesting! Her writing style has improved somewhat.

I have been reading a lot. So far this month I have read....

I read the Network Series by Katie Cross (Five Books, I think). They are fantasy in the same genre as Harry Potter, well written and very enjoyable. I am reading the Dragonmaster series by her now.

I am also reading the Eragon book series. It is a favourite of my grandson and makes a good topic for our daily calls.

I read Cactus by Sarah Hayward, about a thoroughly prickly character.

The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan was an interesting read.

The Other Family by Loretta Nyhan, about a woman's quest for her biological family after she finds her daughter has an autoimmune disease.

I have also read several Clive Cussler books. My grandson enjoys those also.

What did you finish reading lately and are you currently getting into another one? I love to get ideas on books to read and if you recommend it or not?

I just finished The Seekers by Heather Graham (I've read most of her books). I liked it but didn't love it. I kind of skimmed through some of it. I do like the author, so hope the next one I have on hold will be better (The Stalking).

I've just started Before I Let You Go by Kelly Rimmer and so far I'm really into it.

I am reading the Kate Benedict mysteries. The set I bought are volumes 1-5 and I just finished the first one. This is going to take me a while, but at the end I'll have completed my Goodreads goal of 50 books read this year. I think I'll shoot higher next year. :)

My goodreads goal also is 50. It says I am 2 books behind on schedule but am pretty sure I’ll make it. I love to look back and see all the books I read at the end of the year.

I'm currently reading The Whisper Man by Alex North, my first by this author. It's pretty good so far!

I'm totally behind on my goodreads quota for the year. I set my goal at 50, which is pretty ambitious for me. I did 25 last year and now I'm at 28 for this year which is pretty good for me :)

I just looked up Heather Graham and whoa! She has a lot of books/series. I'm always looking for good authors to get into...so where would you recommend I start?

I also think about what else I want to read while I finish the book. Although sometimes I think of 3-4 options at once and then a difficult choice begins:)

I am currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo. For so many years I have been going to read this novel, and now I am reading avidly. I'm a little sorry that I haven't read it before. Although, on the other hand, I am now experiencing such emotions that I do not regret that they were somewhat "postponed".

The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan was an interesting read.

I also really liked this book. Nowadays there are a lot of modern works that you can't read all of them. I try to read as much as possible, but it still comes out less than I would like. In this thread I saw some books that I would like to read. Forums help you find something new, according to your interests.

I am on the last book of The Isle of Destiny Series by Tricia O'Malley and before that I read the series Whispering Pines Mysteries by Shawn McGuire. I highly recommend the Whispering Pines series for anyone for likes a little bit of magic in their fiction. I have been enjoying this current series but not to the same level of enjoyment as the first.

I just finished two books by the same author, Alix Harrow. The first was The Ten Thousand Doors of January. The second was the Once and Future Witches. I enjoyed both books. The author has a lovely way of using words to paint vivid descriptions. Oh if only I had that talent for my scrapbook journaling! LOL!

Just finished Come Closer by Sara Gran. A different kind of story, about possession. I loved The Ten Thousand Doors of January that I recently read. Just started A Thousand Pieces of You, a teen sci-fi by Claudia Gray.

I'm reading "The librarian of Auschwitz" written by Antonio Iturbe. It is about a 14 year old Jewish girl from Prague imprisoned by the Nazi's in Auschwitz. Very touching. She is one of few who survives this concentration camp.

I am reading The Woman With The Blue Star by Pam Jenoff. Very good so far. Up next is The Secrets of Us by Lucinda Berry

I've just started reading A Life on Our Planet – My Witness Statement and a Vision for the Future by David Attenborough.

I have just finished reading The Midnight Library and absolutely loved it! One of the best books I've read in a long time!

I'm currently reading two books (and by reading I mean maybe a chapter a week...lol). Nevermoor and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Both are quite good, I just haven't been in a reading phase.

I have grown to love audiobooks, my current "read-to-be" is Oprah's new book, What Happened to You?.

I'm mostly listening to Audible lately so that I can multi-task lol. I'm currently listening to Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson. Love it so far... very suspenseful.
