Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good afternoon, ladies....and happy thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

Ane - what a great tradition....baking pies on Thanksgiving.

My tradition is usually to go to Bellingham for the wkend and buy Xmas gifts during Black Friday shopping but this year we stayed home. Seems weird LOL. Right now I should be in the long border lineup to cross over into WA. The deals aren't quite as good as they used to be and the really late night shopping doesn't appeal to me anymore (nor do the long cashier lineups). So, I'll stay home, Xmas shop throughout the next few wks instead of getting most done in one night and I'll get to scrapbook a bit since I'm home.

Quiet here again today....hope you are all doing something fun!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hi all, Hope thankgsgiving for my US peeps enjoyed the day!

Going out to shop a bit...just a few baking goods. I am making White Chocolate Gingerdoodles for a Christmas bake-off event at work and a Michael's run using the new 55% off coupon. I really need a new bottom platform for my Sizzix so 55% off is the time to buy.

Will visit Mom and dinner and bingo tomorrow night with the family, jackpot is a whopping $350 thousand! I also hope to get my travel plans for February firmed up, winter getaway to Arizona for hubby's 60th birthday. We have been there before and will attend a car show on his Feb 14th birthday then tour around and maybe go to the Grand Canyon. Anyone know what the weather is like in Feb at the south side of the Grand Canyon? Any other fun places nearby to go to see and do?

Have a wondeful weekend!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. It's a cold frosty morning here and I'm happy to see the rain forecast has passed us by and looks like clear skies for the next wk. That means I can head out early Sunday morning with a friend for a photowalk thru the bird sanctuary on Sunday morning. Today is desk work, scrapping, running errands and am looking forward to binging some tv shows tonight with hubs.

Karen - your dessert sounds good....love the name :) That bingo jackpot is huge! I haven't been in yrs but I used to love going to bingo.

There's lots to do today so I'd better go get at it. Hope you all have a great day.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

No ones in here this morning....hope that means you are all busy scrapping, shopping and enjoying yourself! Have a great day everyone. I'm heading out to a Xmas craft fair in a bit and getting outdoors into the (frigid cold) sunshine.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I personally Prefer monthly threads. I find people like me who are just as introverted online as in real life are often overwhelmed by a big thread. It's hard enough to open up and chat a little as it is, and BTW if I don't respond to everyone please do not take it personally, I find it very hard to chat and interact beyond small talk even online.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hi Heidi,

The first one, the family tree, is a template from my old scrapbook place and is no longer available. There are similar ones available, though, at various places. Here are a couple of templates here at GingerScraps. Looking at them I might have to buy a few more (dang it!) If you click on the image, I have linked them.

https://store.gingerscraps.net/search.php?mode=search&page=2

This is one I did with Kristina's family tree. I loved working with it. I might use it again for some of the layouts I am doing.
I am so inspired by this project and can't wait to dig my teeth in. I don't see how something like this can ever be finished and I have no idea how to arrange the pages inside the album so it is easy to follow.

This is amazing. I had no idea there were templates available. Gee, I should do searches but then again, maybe not. I have enough on my plate. LOL. Thanks for linking all those for me.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

All this talk of genealogy! :D I need to work on mine, and as I don't have younger kids at home anymore, I don't really have an excuse to not do it. Just pure laziness.

In other news, I made 2 pies today. I have 1 more to do but I've decided to do it tomorrow, because making pies on Thanksgiving is my little tradition. DH wanted to do them all today, but I told him no, for the reason I've said. I have been doing this for so long it would just seem weird to do it all the day before.

I am still recovering from all the cooking. I did not make the pies, though, they were bought at the store. I love to bake, I just never have the time, really.

As for genealogy, I only ever work on it if I am in the mood. I love the puzzles of trying to figure out who is who. Just the other day I found someone I had been searching for for a year. He was under Papenage instead of Parsonage and he was 'base born!' My kids had to ask what a base born child was and I had to explain that the mother was not married. Steven had just been asking if I should be afraid that we would uncover skeletons in our closet. I had said it was highly unlikely because we were English Peasants :) Anyway, it was HIGHLY satisfying.

Good afternoon, ladies....and happy thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

I am DEFINITELY not a fan of Black Friday. I can't stand crowds. I would rather spend a lot of money on something than face a crowd. I had to go to Microcenter on Sunday and discovered that the Black Friday sales extended through Monday there. The wait to get in the store was 1/2 hour, then the wait to pay for something was over an hour. I ordered the hard drive I needed online.

What are Gingerdoodles - it sounds like a cross between Ginger Snaps and Snickerdoodles. I would love the recipe.

I have a Cricut Cuttlebug and I use a lot of the Sizzix folders. I love it.

We played Baby Shower Bingo the other day. Before it started, we all guessed at the gifts she would get and put them in the bingo boxes, then as she opened her gifts, we would check off what we had guessed. It was so much fun. We play bingo at work on game day, sometimes. I used to go to Bingo with my Nan, she loved it. I would read while she played.

Ella, I don't think you have to worry about responding to everyone. I try to because it is sort of my job because I created the thread.

We will probably keep it an annual thread since that was what most people wanted. I am so glad you interact at all :) You are such a talented scrapper, it is wonderful to have you in our thread. I would love it if you would link your layouts from time to time.

I love searching for stuff, I find all kinds of goodies :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Well, all those lovely genealogy layouts - I lost them in a hard drive crash yesterday.

Fortunately, I have a backup as of October 26th. It sounds like a long time ago, but I don't think I have done too much since then, just those layouts. Today, I redownloaded all my store purchases since the backup. I also redownloaded any etsy purchases.

I may have lost photographs of Bruce, but there are plenty out there, so I should be okay.

I had done a lot of work on the heritage pictures, fixing the colours and fixing damage to them, but I will just have to redo that. I have the originals.

We never really think our hard drives are going to crash, do we :) I am sad it was not completely backed up, of course, but it could have been SO much worse.

Dang the sales, I bought the ones I did not have!!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

@formbygirl ... Lynne: a couple weeks ago hard drive crashed, and then a few days later backup drive crashed. Like wth, two so close together. No idea what’s missing where. It all confuses me.

I had a unexpected trip out of town with my girl Alexis. What could have been a day trip to Edmonton and back we decided to spend a couple nights instead and have a girls weekend.

Friday we went to an unveiling of the Make a Wish advent calendar. Think a huge one with 24 doors on it. Of the 130 wishes granted over the last year 24 will be highlighted. Alexis wish will be day ten. It was outdoors for over three hours and I found out my new to me winter coat isn’t very warm. We had fun though.
Then we went to a mall near the hotel, It was packed, crazy, and overwhelming. Didn’t buy anything.
Back to hotel, Alexis went out for supper with a friend and I napped.

On Saturday we went to a pop-up art show/exhibit of my favorite canadian artist Robbie Craig. Spent a few hours looking closely at his work and getting to meet him was a highlight for me.
Then we went to a couple stores at west Edmonton mall. I didn’t buy anything except a present for my son for Christmas.

So enjoyed getting away with zero medical stuff involved.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Genealogy: had a new pop up of a 2nd cousin to my mom through DNA. I don’t quite understand the cousin stuff. But my mom’s dad and this lady’s grandfather were brothers. No clue what that makes us. Interesting find was this was the closest DNA link to anyone on that side of family.

Still having no luck tracking down my moms maternal grandfather though. He either died in ww1 for either USA or Canada, or he is buried in the back 40 somewhere. The man is a ghost.

Happy December everyone. I hope all enjoyed Thanksgiving that celebrate. We had a lovely day with our daughter, son in law and the 2 g'kiddo's. A lot of good food.
I made the easiest no bake pumpkin pie!

Also managed to get a lot of machine embroidered towels completed. I will be working on more today.

Happy Cyber Monday. I hope you find a great deal out there.

I am praying that when I get my new drive, I will have pretty much everything from a month ago. I worked on a single project that was finished, so it would not be a huge loss. I have lost some pictures and a few other things, but I can recover enough to keep me happy, I think. IF the backup drive recovers.

If that does not work, I have a crash plan online backup from 2 1/2 months ago, so that will be my next plan. If that is a problem, I have one from 2018 that has most of my stuff. I will have to get creative with getting copies of pictures, etc. and recovering a ton of scrapping stuff. At least I have multiple options and I have not lost everything. We are setting up something at my son's house that should help a little, but I take backups seriously enough that I am okay with what I lost. When I think of the times I used to go months without backing up! I am so glad those days are gone. I would have been devastated.

I love when I track down a mysterious person - it gives me such an adrenaline rush! If you PM me all the information you have on your mother's maternal grandmother, I will see what I can find for you. I have the full ancestry package and also subscribe to the UK's find my past. Both together make a lovely combination.

You are always so busy. That is awesome! I love machine embroidered stuff. I debated getting into it at one point and realized I was already into too much crafting (is there such a thing?) I would do well to downsize everything and just digi-scrap.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I won't know until tomorrow if my external hard drive is recoverable. I am really praying and hoping.

IN the meantime, we got all our Christmas decorations up. The tree is really TOO green. I tried to add other colours, but it was not enough. Karen says we have to start from scratch next year and do it all over again. I have the tiny copper LED lights on the tree because I thought it would save doing the lights every year. Personally, I think I am happy just leaving it a little too green LOL. I am too tired for this stuff.....

Karen came over yesterday to do the stockings, but they didn't get done. She had a little errand to run for some friends that went on a little longer than anticipated, then we had to get our nails done! Or the other way around, I forget. Anyway, at the end of the day, we were too tired to put up the stockings.

This morning, I made the drive to LAX again to drop her and will probably pick her up again on Thursday. There has to be an easier solution, other than the horrendous cost of a shuttle. The problem is that we left a little after five, got to the airport at 6:30 and I was at work by 8:15. That is a LONG morning before I even start work.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. The wkend flew by. I had a billion (ok, slight over-estimate) CT pages to load which I think was my most ever at one time, managed to scrap a bit, got outdoors a lot b/c even though it was freezing cold, it was clear which I really enjoyed b/c now we have rain forecasted most days for a few wks (gotta love rainy BC weather). Spent Saturday with Bailey and hung out, went to a craft fair in the afternoon, then went on a photo walk at the bird sanctuary with a friend yesterday for most of the day. It was amazing. Birds were landing in my hand constantly to eat the seeds we had and the cranes, ducks, etc were following us everywhere, wanting us to feed them. In all my yrs of going there I'd never seen a big crane eating out of people's hands but they sure did yesterday. I have a billion (ok, slight over-estimate again) photos I took and loaded them all last night into LR and I am just thrilled with them. I'm going to get some Xmas photo cards made this wk for family/friends with some of my wildlife photos and will add text in PS and maybe some overlays on them. Should be fun.

So today I'm home, lots of desk work (my boss likes to dictate backlog files over the wkend and sends them electronically to me so Monday is always a busy work day). I'm staying indoors except for walking Taz and am working on a CT page this morning.

That's it for me today.

BTW....Lynnie, you are always so busy it makes my head spin LOL. My heart lurched when I read about the crash....ugh. I went thru that not too long ago and had to re-download a lot of files and lost a lot too. Lesson learned. Now all my zipped files go to dropbox for safekeeping.

I'd better get to work. Hope you all have a great day.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I hope I have time to go and peek at your layouts tonight, Rae. Taking a quick break at work, but just a quick one. It sounds as though there are so many layouts to enjoy! And pictures!!

That is a pretty good idea about the zip files and the drop box, and maybe even saving them by month for an event such as this. However, I do back up fairly often, and generally after I have done some major organization, moving stuff around or downloading. This was really an exception, since I had my cousin there and was working on a big project that just took so much time. The project itself was a one-off, so it doesn't matter that much that I don't have the layered TIFF files. I have the JPGs, if they are ever needed again.

I will rethink this backup thing again, how best to do it without it being a drag on my system. It was a good feeling to realize that I had not lost too much, then if that doesn't work out, I have other options, each with a little more loss, but the added comfort that I have not lost everything!!

I had done a lot of work on heritage stuff for my cousin Mary and deleted it when I was done, since I had it on the external drive. However, I gave it to Mary on a thumb drive, so I will ask her to send that back :) All is well, and what isn't it my own fault :) I am okay with it.

Thank heavens I still have all the pictures from the Thanksgiving photoshoot we did. I took several hundred with green screen backgrounds in the hope that I can create some really wonderful pictures. I had such a good time with the few I did and I was actually working on that when the hard drive crashed. It was really just a matter of time, the drive was older and I have not treated it as well as I should :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning ladies. It's been a busy morning of desk work, CT work and doing laundry. I'm heading out to run errands in a bit and then back to work hard all afternoon so that I can finish up work by dinnertime and spend the night relaxing, watching tv with hubs. A boring but good day ahead.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Laundry? I think my least favourite task and always has been. Actually, I think it my least favourite to get motivated to do. When I am actually doing it, I quite enjoy it, go figure.

Even more exciting - the restore is almost complete on my hard drives. I have more than I thought I had. NOT ONLY THAT, but I remembered the recycle bin. Most of the stuff I thought I had lost had been on my C drive before I moved it to the external drive, then I deleted it, so it is in my recycle bin.

I am so blessed!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I can't believe how long it is taking me to restore my hard drive! I started Tuesday night and it is still going on :) I think it will be done this morning, although I won't be there to admire it.

God bless the recycle bin!

And being able to re-download stuff from GS from the last month.

Of course, I have to unzip and reorganize again, which is taking a little while, but it is getting done and I get to admire all the pretty stuff again.

The only thing I regret is the loss of the TIFF files for the six genealogy pages. I wanted to reuse the format for other branches of the tree, but that is okay, I can recreated. I am still debating the colours.

Anyway I am very pleased and will backup even more frequently. In the meantime, I think I might save everything on my computer hard drive, then move to the external hard drive and delete. Then I will empty the recycle bin only when I have backed up. That might work. We will see.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Glad you found a way Lynnie

years ago our drive crashed, and when it was restored somehow the metadata restored with that date. Shortly after is when I was ill, and it was too late by the time anyone really noticed to do anything. I have years of photos spanning about five years all with the same date and no memory to go with them. It’s so frustrating.

Yesterday i I woke up with this intense eye pain and it unfocused, constantly tearing, I wasa mess. I couldn’t stand light on it, no tv, no iPad, my little cell on dullest for short time periods only. Started pink eye drops, and although sore the focus is much better today.

Took my son to orthodontist this afternoon, and he has no school tomorrow. More threats at his school. These serious enough to warrant three arrests. This long weekend is always set aside for a school bikeathon raising money for charity. Last year it was cancelled due to gun threats, but no arrests. This year arrests. It’s scary. Not sure if anyone watches SWAT but there episode last night was about school shootings and was very well done I thought.

Speaking of TV has anyone watched the Dolly Parton Heartstrings episodes on Netflix? So well done. If you like hallmark you should like them.

I had sone extensive lab work drawn today and it took four sticks to get one vial, then that vein crashed then two in other arm to get the rest. I hate needles and ima lousy stick, I am going to be bruised.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. Busy day with CT work, desk work, errands and need to start pulling Xmas bins out from the storage, today and tomorrow. I'll pull a few bins out at a time and then sort thru them, figuring out what I want to use this year. Then on Sunday, family will come over and we'll decorate the tree. I need to get some Xmas shopping done too so not sure if I'll get a chance to do any of that this wkend.

Lynnie - glad you were able to recover more from the recycling bin...yay.

Sherri - pink eye...ouch. Bailey had that last wkend and had to get drops but it is feeling much better now. That is scary about the school violence. Sorry to hear about the small/collapsed veins for blood work. I hate getting blood work too (well, I guess everyone hates it b/c who would like that kind of thing).

I'm getting to work now. Have a great day everyone.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hi everyone. Hope you are enjoying your wkend. Mine is filled with chores....pulling out Xmas decorations, cleaning the house, doing some deskwork that I didn't finish yesterday, moving furniture to accommodate the tree we'll put up tomorrow, laundry and still need to figure out what dinners we'll having today and tomorrow. The wkend is going to fly by. Of course, I'll fit in a little scrappy time too.

Hope you are all having a great day.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I just typed this impossibly long post answering everyone and expressing lovely things to everyone's posts, then I hit a key, changed tabs and lost it all.

SO - consider yourself answered and say "Nice one" to everything I said I did the last few days and we will move on LOL.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hi everyone,

Always enjoying keeping up with everyone's days. I have been so busy with Christmas stuff tha ti hav enot had a chance to check in. Grand-daughter's concert is Tuesday, Friday evening we are taking her to the Illumination "150" to celebrate Manitoba's 150th birthday, should be a fun time. https://globalnews.ca/event/6248944/illuminate-150/

Working on mailing out my Xmas cards and finishing up my baking and gift shopping. I got off easy this year with simple requests. I have time off between Christmas and New Years so I am looking forward to some time to relax and unwind after the busy holiday season. I must also plan my winter trip to Arizona, hubby's 60th birthday request.

Tomorrow's a cleaning day, and my scrap room is a MESS! Lots of laundry to finish and grocery shopping. Have to visit Mom with her groceries and some help for the week.

Hoping everyone is doing well and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Whew, that is repeating everything I lost on my post yesterday.

I missed a party on Friday because I was not feeling great, but then I went to one last night, but am not feeling great again so I missed church, which I really don't like to miss.

The party last night was given by a member of my book club. She is such an awesome person. I have a great book club and two other members (beside the hostess) was there. We talked about books mostly :) There was some pretty amazing rum cake! The food was good, but I did not eat too much and kept it light. I did not drink at all, I was the designated driver. I can't imagine what set me off, but I am still not feeling great. Maybe a bit of scrapping will do the trick.

Karen is here putting up my stockings, which requires a whole reorganization of the lights over the stocking pole. Well, I thought it did, so I had her take everything down and start fresh - only to find that the problem all along was that it was not plugged in. She is seriously laughing at me right now. I pointed out that I am paying her to do this and if I pay her to take down the garland on the pole and put it right back up, that is not for her to complain (or laugh) about!

I wish I did not have to go to work tomorrow. I have so much fun stuff to work on. Plus I have to wrap presents... the few I have here to wrap. Book club is over here tomorrow and I want the place to look fabulous.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Lynnie, hope your feeling better. Sending prayers, and glad you were able to recover from the recycle bin, It is no fun with computer problems, have had my share.
Sherri, Thanks for the info about Dolly Parton Heartstrings, will have to check that out for sure, I just watched Christmas at Dollywood on the Hallmark channel, I am addicted the the Hallmark channel... LOL
I have been working a lot of hours, and have not had much computer time. With getting ready for Christmas, got my shopping done... wore me out... LOL I have also been dealing with a lot of doctor appointments on my days off, they found an issue with my heart, so having lots of tests done and will follow up with the doctor to see what all is going on. I also have to have oxygen at night now while I'm sleeping, not sure how I will like that, I have trouble getting to sleep, but I have heard people say they sleep better after using the machine so we will see.
I have missed scrapping, haven't had time to do to much lately, but getting ready to do a cople layouts today. Spent some money in the shop, I just love the kits the designers are putting out... and the free with 10 dollar purchase kit looks awesome, can't wait to use it... Alta! You made my day, I have been missing you :) I am glad you are going to scrap a few things. Take care of your heart. A heart like yours is pretty special. BIG HUG.

Folks, just heard from my son in England and my grandson, Luke, has been admitted to the hospital with a high fever, difficulty breathing, and dehydration. They are having trouble with fluids, so are doing an intravenous antibiotic and trying to get a bunch of fluids in him. James is kicking himself for not taking him in sooner. They took him to urgent care a few days ago, but it did not really alleviate their concern. Anyway, Hannah and her mum are at the hospital with Luke and James is at home taking care of John. I can't help but be anxious. I am a world away and I can't be there to help. Part of me wonders if I should just fly over and see what I can do. I am sure it would be nice to have someone cooking and cleaning for them. I probably won't, but I keep thinking about it.

I told James he had taught Luke too well about the man flu, but should have told him that you did not actually need to be sick to have it. It made James laugh.
