Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I will tell you that one of the BEST helps for grief for me is scrapping! I love, with a passion, going over all the old pictures and remembering good times.

So I am scrapping HUNDREDS of video slides, in between making Christmas presents. They are gorgeous and GingerScraps designers make it so easy. I make up 40 or 50 templates for a slide show, then reuse and move stuff around. Plus I have so many templates already built that I can borrow from them, too :) I love my slide shows.

Plus I am hoping to make a photo album for Moira, his wife, and the cousins. We will see how that goes. Not sure I can get that done in time, but I will give it a shot.

The memories are holding me up really well. John was loads of fun and very funny. Looking through his faces in all the pics just made me laugh. And he told such stories.... a story about a duck that landed on a golf course would end up as a dozen baby ducklings following their mother all over the place. He embraced the art of embellishment, and was, indeed, a master of it.

What a lucky woman I am to have had him in my life at all.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. I thought I had posted yesterday but I have a feeling I forgot to hit "reply" lol. I have lots to do to finish up for the holidays and will be busy every day now until Xmas. Not a lot of "me" time but that's ok b/c after Xmas I have a much lighter schedule so will have time to relax, visit with family/friends and have some extra "me" time. Looking forward to lazy mornings, relaxing with coffee and a book, not having to work for almost 2 wks. Yay.

Lynnie - yes, scrapping helps me too when I'm blue. Hugs to you.

I'm getting to work now. Will be putting together a grocery list and hubs and I will go out later today for most of the groceries for the next wk. I need to get out and shop for a few more gifts too tonight or tomorrow. Then start wrapping.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Made HUGE progress today in Christmas presents. Got the office calendars scrapped (17 people, one customized calendar and one holiday list each) and a beautiful calendar done for my brother's wonderful partner. She is pretty special and I make her a calendar every year, most of the pictures are her pets, with a few of my brother and us thrown in. The calendar looks pretty cool. I just have to punch and bind it. I have to wrap tomorrow. I am starting to get Christmas cards back in the mail. I love real cards. I got two from people I did not send to this year and I have to send those out tomorrow. One of them I had cut from my list, but I'll add her back because she actually sends them. The other I did not have her address and she has a birthday as well. I will send both cards tomorrow.

I took my mother to get her hair done tonight. It is purple and rose gold, so pretty. She is quite a character for 91 :) After dinner I went out with my stylist, my mum and a member of our book club. It was a great evening.

It is 10:30 at night and I am so tired - I think I will get an early evening. I have worked pretty hard today.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Lynnie I’d love to see rose gold hair, I love rose gold.

i went and met a friend to visit today, I often feel so isolated. It was nice. Then just hit a few places browsing, what a mistake on a Friday afternoon before Christmas. Glad I didn’t buy anything as checkout lines were insane.

Got home went on fb to have local social media blowup that there was an active shooter with multiple victims at the Walmart I had just left. As the evening wore on it sounds like there was one targeted victim shot and he later died in hospital. Two gunpeople still on the lose but no threat to the public. That last line from the official rcmp release has raised many questions across social media. Sitting at home and watching the rumours blow up on social media was insane.

Found out tonight Alexis pediatrican passed away a couple days ago. We are heartbroken even though she aged out of peds last year. He made such a difference in her care, and treatment plan. He will be sorely missed in our community.

I still havent sound a present for my guy. If he wants something he buys it. I’m at a loss. Nothing even peaked my interest in my browsing this afternoon for him. I find him extremely hard to buy for.

I need to go see my mom.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Rae, Sounds like you have things under control for the holidays. It will be nice for you to have some time off from work and relax, enjoy!

Lynnie, you are one busy lady! I would also love to see a LO of your Mom's rose gold hair.

Sherri, doesn't it seem crazy out there lately? If you have seen any of the news from our neck of the woods, we have been having a rash of people (mostly under-aged kids) just walking into liquor stores and walking out with whatever they want. It has now moved to retail stores so it is getting scarier to even go shopping for groceries. We also have surpassed the amount of homicides in our city. I am starting to get scared to go out at night by myself when I leave my little area. I can only hope the new year will bring a better future for our city! Hope you find that one special gift for your guy.

Now just putting the final touches on the holiday season and things are going well. We are going to the kids place on Xmas eve and my brother's on Xmas so no cooking or cleaning required. I will only work Monday & Tuesday next week and then be off until January 2nd which will be a nice break. I hope to get in some much needed rest and devour a couple of reads I have have been putting off. And...I still have to do our agenda and book our rooms for our Arizona trip in February but plane tickets have been purchased.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

It is a frightening time right now, but I can only imagine how much worse it is in other places in the world. We have so little under our tree this year compared to the ridiculously over-the-top piles in the past, but I have to think it would be paradise to those who live in poverty.

I have been watching Foyle's War on the television and remembering my grandfather's stories about the war (which he only shared in later years because they were so awful) and about my mother living through the air raids and the bombings. I can only imagine what that daily fear was like.

We live in scary times, but we will (hopefully) survive them.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. I've got lots to do so not a lot of time online for the next few days but nothing stressful, I know what I need to do for the holidays and will get it all done. Spending lots of time with family and friends over the next week and am looking forward to it.

I'll pop in later tonight but my day is going to be full, no playtime for me :)

Hope all is well with everyone.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I am running out of steam with so few presents under the tree. We have always had LOADS of presents, so this year is a little different. I may be up most of the night finishing things up.

I think my heart is not really in it as much this year, since my cousin, John, died. I still can't imagine a world without him.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies.
Hugs to Lynnie - hope you find some joy in the holiday. I know it's hard to with the loss.

I've got lots to do but should get it all done if I stay organized. Just popping in to say Merry Xmas to you all and here's a photo that should make you smile. My boy sitting in front of the tree last night with his winter hat on. Later I'll get a few shots with his Xmas hat on too :) He hates it but suffers thru it for me (and a couple of cookies).

Hello all! I've been having a good week so far and it looks like it'll be a lovely Christmas tomorrow, with temperatures in the 60's! I just wanted to leave a little something for you all here, it's a beautiful short video about the birth of Christ. (I hope this is allowed, if not, I apologize) here it is: https://www.comeuntochrist.org/light-the-world/the-christ-child

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Well, it is late at night on Christmas and the house is restored back to a (fairly) normal state.

My brother came over Christmas Eve, I had a couple of glasses of wine and did not feel much like having one of those nights where I churn out gifts at the last minute and wrap gifts. After Dave and Teri left, I napped in my chair for a few hours. It was just lovely, I really needed it.

I got up on Christmas morning and decided to finish up and wrap a few gifts. It turned into more than a few, but I got everything done before Steven, Nessa and Bruce arrived. When they arrived, Rand was dressed in his Santa Suit and was the BEST Santa for baby Bruce. Apparently getting your picture with a Mall Santa these days is quite expensive these days and Rand is a much better Santa. I probably should have taken them with my good camera, but they were still adorable.

I worked REALLY hard on getting Vanessa's family tree finished with pictures, etc. I did not quite get it done, I was missing quite a few pictures but she was so appreciative of what I had done. I also worked on my niece's family tree and got that finished - well, I had our side done for a while, but I added her mother's side, then I added her husband's mother's side, too. I will work on the dad at some point, but there was so much awesome stuff on his mother's side.

I finished up a brag book for Vanessa with 52 scrapped 5x7 pictures. She loved it :)

There were tons more little gifts I put together at the last minute, but I feel as though it were a really successful Christmas.

James and Hannah (and the boys) FaceTimed from England. Karen FaceTimed from another part of England. I missed them especially this Christmas.

I thought a lot about my cousin, John's, wife today. How she must be feeling right now, having just lost the love of her life. They were the sweetest couple.

Christmas dinner was pretty easy. We had a ham. I made mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips and corn to go with it. It practically cooked itself. Because there were only five grown ups, the clean up was pretty easy. All the dishes were washed and put away almost immediately.

I got to cuddle Bruce for hours. It was a GREAT day.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Love that video Ane. One of my favorites from this year. And Lynnie, your Christmas sounds so delightful. Snuggling a baby is always the best thing to get to do.
My next grandkiddo is due in one week! I'm so excited to get to hold the precious little thing straight from heaven. I'm so glad I get to be his Nana and not his mommy at this point. I love to snuggle and then give them back. Plus my sleep at night is the second thing I love, next to snuggling grandkiddo's. :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, everyone. I'm in cleanup mode now. I've got gifts to put away, need to clean out the fridge as there were lots of leftovers that never got eaten. I'm going to look for an instant pot soup recipe today (low carb) so I can cook up the leftover turkey with veggies in a soup and then freeze it for lunches.

I'll play on the computer a bit today but not too much, got lots of errands and chores to do. Hope you are all winding down from the holiday time. We're not going out for NYE and am happy to stay home tomorrow night, watching movies and snacking while I snuggle in my chair. We finished "You" season two last night. I'll pick another show to binge tonight.

Hope you all have a great day.

Heidi - congrats on the upcoming addition to your family! I agree....being a gramma is the best!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

At work! Such a hard thing to do after Christmas. My five days off passed SO quickly. I have a count down on my calendar. 25 working days (including today) until I retire. It is going to pass so quickly, particularly since I will be taking three of those at some point to go to my cousin's memorial service. I am looking forward to seeing my cousins again. It will be a good gathering, I think. My cousin, Ken, is having the hardest time - he is two years older than me and John was a year older. The two of them were always in trouble together. Usually Ken telling John to do stupid things and John getting injured doing them :) "John, jump off the roof, it won't hurt." (Broken leg). "John, swing from this, it will be fine!" (Dislocated shoulder). They were always into something and often dragged us along. We had no injuries, though :) We were all so close.

Christmas was lovely. Very quiet compared to usual. We generally have PILES of presents under the tree and loads of people. This year it was just Steven, Nessa, Bruce, Rand, Mum and I opening presents. I had made most of the presents, and not tons of them. The upside was that it was so much more calm and there was not much mess to clean up. We were all relaxed and had SUCH a nice time.

Dinner was easy to make, clean up was easy. This was maybe the most relaxed Christmas EVER.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hope you all have a wonderful NYE tonight and am wishing everyone a wonderful 2020 year ahead!

I'm going to relax and hang out with hubs tonight, snacking and watching movies. Tomorrow everything gets put away, time to get on with a new year.
