Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good luck with surgery, Lynn.

Sherri, don't be sad or mad because you broke the drought, be delighted with yourself for the great success. There is nothing wrong with drinking some pop every once in a while, it is the daily drinking that causes health issues.

I sent in my taxes to my accountant Monday night and had them back Tuesday morning. They are amazing. They have been doing my taxes for as long as I can remember. I am so grateful for them. I will print everything out and write the checks out tomorrow. I procrastinate on taxes until the last moment and it is like a cloud hanging over my head and on my to-do list for months. It doesn't take me long, my taxes are not complex, but it feels as though a 10-ton weight has lifted every time I do them.

NOW FOR THE BIG NEWS!
Baby Luke was born to son James and DIL Hannah last night. He was born at 1:09am in England on April 11th. We are so pleased. I will have him in my arms in 9 days. I am a happy puddle right now.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I hope the surgery went well for you, Lynn! :D

Congrats to you, Lynnie!

I am just bumping along here, nothing too exciting happening. But life is like that sometimes. :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Yes, Thank you, Michi.

It's suppose to rain here today, Sherri. It's been beautiful the last few days. It's was 85 yesterday! The high Saturday is suppose to be in the 40's. Yuck!

I'm going in for surgery this morning. I have to be there at 11:45. I'm not sure when I'll be on the computer next. I've been told I'll be given some pretty strong pain meds afterwards. Maybe I'll be back on in a couple of days. You ladies enjoy the day and I'll talk to you soon!

Good luckwith surgery.

It snowed and rained today. No 85 at all

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Finally updated my Avatar and Siggie :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Well the weather is nasty here once again, snow for the last couple days form a Colorado low. However, it is supposed to go into the double digits later next week. Hopefully spring will just come and stay!

Lynn, good luck with your surgery!

Sherri, I agree pop once in awhile is fine!

Lynnie, congrats on your new grandie Luke...love his name! I also love your new siggy and photo, beautiful!

On another note...my Cherry Blossom LO made LOTW. If you like it you can vote for me here.

Thanks and Happy Friday!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Surgery went well. I'm in my recliner with my arm propped up. I'm in pain, but not terrible. Doctor says I can take my wrap off in three days. I think I'll feel better then.

Thanks so much, all of you, for your prayers and concerns. I really appreciate it!

Lynnie, Congratulations on baby Luke! How exciting is that? Your avatar and siggie look incredible!

Sherrie, It's supposed to snow here this weekend. We're all going to have pneumonia because the weather can't figure out what it wants to do.

Have a great day, ladies!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Congrats Lynnie....how exciting!

The sun is shining so I'll get out for a walk today (lots of rain forecasted over the next wk so need to take advantage of the good weather). I need to pack up some old scrapbook supplies to take to a craft garage sale tomorrow. Other than keeping some card supplies, it doesn't make sense to hold onto all my scrap stuff that never gets used. I'm going to a 12 hour crop (haven't been to one since switching to digi 6 yrs ago) and am going to work on some cards.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Congrats to Karen for winning LOTW! Mighty fine layout you've got there! :D

How is everyone doing this week? Busy, I take it. Me, not so much, although marching band season is starting up again so that will change, LOL!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Thank you so much! I so enjoyed Japan during the Cherry Blossom season...Time Flies, it's been 4 years since this day!

I am gearing up for the long weekend...does everyone else celebrate Easter? We do however this year we are having our family dinner on the 27th as my sister is on vacation. My son just got back from Costa Rica with my grandie and we will also have her for a sleepover....we so missed her! So this weekend is all to myself and on Monday it is my birthday so I am so looking forward to 4 days off work and maybe some scrappy time.

Congrats to Karen for winning LOTW! Mighty fine layout you've got there! :D

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

So here I am in England, visiting with Family and having a lovely time. It has been a challenge with mum, but worth it. She is such a priceless queen of a woman.

The flight was terrible for her, she was so uncomfortable and in so much pain and asked for her pain medication. I ended up giving her a little too much, but just a little. It did not really help enough, but she made it through the flight. We picked up a rental car and headed towards Bournemouth . . . that is when the problems really started. She had an upset stomach from a combination of the pain medication, orange juice and a lack of food. It upset her tummy a lot and she was riding in the back of the car and it made her very sick, which lasted most of the journey. THEN we got a flat tire. Because the hire car was an Audi with custom tires, they told us it would be a day before they could fix it, so a towing lorry had to take us in. Please picture my mother climbing into a tow lorry where the floor is at shoulder height for her and there are only three steps to get there. It took my brother pulling her up, me pushing her up and the lorry driver cheering us on to get her there. After we dropped off the Audi, the Lorry driver was kind enough to take us to our hotel. (Imagine arriving to a nice hotel in a lorry - just picture it :) )

So we got the rooms settled and took the luggage down two flights of stairs and got my mum down them. Then we got her back up for a bit of food. Then we took her back down and found that neither the television nor the toilet was working. So back up to the desk. All the rooms they had were up too many stairs for her to manage, so they ended up comping us a fancy suite that had only three stairs, so my brother and I settled her in and went to the bar - we needed it :)

The next day started out a little better - the car was ready early. We went and visited my Uncle Jack, who is 99 in May. We had a nice time catching up with him and having a bit of a chat. Then we set off for Southport. A five-hour drive ended up being seven hours with holiday traffic. We were VERY glad to get to the flat in Southport. We have stayed here before, so it was like coming home. We went and got fish and chips for mum, then went to meet our cousin at my brother's favourite pub here. It was quite an evening. My brother is performing there on Monday. He met some fellow musicians and they had a lovely time. I did, too. It is really nice having quality time with my brother.

We went grocery shopping this morning and bought lots of lovely things to eat. We also walked over to the little news shop where my cousin's wife works and chatted with her for a bit. We came back and he had to go for about an hour drive to pick up some sound equipment that he is borrowing for his gig and I stayed and kept my mother company. She was out like a light the whole time, so I did laundry. Two of my cousins came to visit and brought pictures and all kinds of stuff. It really was a lovely day. We went to another pub to see a really amazing musician play - he was good, but I don't think he has the connection with his audience that my brother has. I came back pretty early to help my mum with her shower and put her hair in curlers. She is feeling a little better.

Sorry for the ramble, but I have missed everyone :)

Congrats to all, how exciting for you Lynnie!! You will no doubt by now have had your first cuddle or if not, you must be getting close. Enjoy!! I look forward to seeing the no doubt many upcoming LOs:) I am just back from Melbourne where I visited with MY grandsons (aged 17, 15 and 15) and their parents. First time for me getting there on my own and visiting on my own, some emotional moments but all went well and the boys were such a delight and comfort. I didn't much like coming back home to an empty house after being part of that busy noisy fantastic loving household.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Lynnie, sounds like you are on a real adventure with all that has happened so far with your time overseas. I hope the remainder of your time will run smoother for you. Catching up with relatives must be a highlight for you.

First cuddle coming up tonight or tomorrow morning (depending on whether he is awake tonight or tomorrow!). We have our Family Reunion today, son James is coming to reunion and taking me after back to his house. I will be staying there tonight and Sunday night, then coming back to scatter aunty's ashes. The cousins saved it for us :). My brother is performing at a pub close by on Monday night, which will be fun. Later in the week we are going to where mum was born and where she lived during the war. Much of it is gone, now, but it will still be lovely. We have a few more plans, too, but we will see what we end up doing. When we are done 'reunioning' we are heading for Ingleton, where my son and his wife and the GRANDCHILDREN live. I will be spending the day with them and I am SO excited. I will spend every day with them, then head to the cottage at night to stay with my mum and brother. We might do some walks and whatnot around there. We will see... Then we are heading to the Cotswolds, then to Cornwall. We will spend the last night in the town where we lived for a few years before I moved to America. It will be really exciting to see. I have not been back in 50 years.

We are so lucky to be in touch with the cousins. We have been a close family and spend time with all of them when we can. We come back to England every year or so and there is always a big reunion of family. I grew up with my cousins, almost as though they were brothers and sisters. We are all pretty close. Our children in America know their children and even grandchildren by sight and name. Daughter Karen flew from America to England for my cousin's son's wedding. We all would have, but something was going on. She flew to England for a SINGLE DAY for the wedding. It was crazy, but fun.

We have a lot planned for this trip, but it will be lots of fun.

Have you thought of moving closer? We live in a retirement community so there is never any downtime.

Lynnie, How wonderful you finally made it there with your Mum. Safe and fun adventures for you all and of course lots of Granddie time!!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Had a lovely day with the grandchildren on Sunday and am going back later in the week! Brother's event went really, really well. Some of the cousins came back to see my mother, which is good. Who knows if she will make it back next year.

Very exciting, though, I got to meet GingerScraps' very own PEPSIBUBBLES. We met up in SOuthport, where my brother was playing, and had a lovely chat. It was such a thrill to meet such a star...

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

It really was, Karen, I loved meeting her. I am having a good, but exhausting time. It might ease off a bit when we leave Southport - that is where most of the family is. I am thinking that once all the family activities are done, we can relax a bit. Family is absolutely fabulous, but there is never a minute free. I would not have it any other way, though.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Lynnie enjoy the family time you so need it, and it sounds like a busy time at that, hope the trip home is better on your mom... But I'm sure she is loving the time with everyone... enjoy that new grandbaby they grow up so fast... :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Lynnie, I'm so happy for you! I'm glad your mom is doing well. Enjoy the rest of your time. Get as much relaxation as you can in after your family time is over. Have so much fun!!!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Another doctors appointment for my daughter that was sadly not encouraging. I’m just so sad for her.

Sounds like a dream Lynnie

It has been an absolute dream. It’s been lovely being here.

Mum is doing a bit better now. I am hoping the trip home will be much easier. Today, she is off out for a special day with my son. He’s going to start by taking her to breakfast. Not sure what my brother and I will do today. The pub is certainly a possibility.

I have been getting lots of rest. There is a lot of walking during the day, and when it is done I am going home and putting my feet up. Spending loads and loads of time with the grandchildren and of course my son and his wife. This is the most beautiful little village. I could walk around here forever. There are quite a few hills and lots of ups and downs which are a little bit difficult because I am terribly out of shape. I think I’ll survive.

Another doctors appointment for my daughter that was sadly not encouraging. I’m just so sad for her.

It is so terrible to be helpless when you can’t do something for your children. I do know how that feels. I wish we could do something to really support you in this. Let us know if there’s anything you can think of it we can do to make this easier.

Where did April go???

Wherever it went it went way too quickly.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

After we arrived in England, we went to see my uncle Jack. He is going to be 99 in April and still lives by himself. Once that was done, we headed to the north of England to visit with my cousins. We spent a week there, lots of visiting, lots of evenings out, lots of pubs. We had a family reunion that was absolutely fabulous. My brother played one night at his favorite pub and his performance went over very well. It was the first time any of the cousins had seen him play. We drove around the places we grew up, and the places where my mom grew up, and had lots of wonderful memories. All too soon it was time to leave, and we headed further north to where my son lives. He and his wife own a house in a village of about 2000 people. It is very charming and very old. We are in a delightful little cottage underneath a viaduct. We are just feet away from the entrance to waterfall trail. The trail is one of the most beautiful in England. If you Google the Ingleton Waterfall Trail you will see how lovely it is. The time here seems to be passing way too quickly. I think I could stay here weeks and weeks and never noticed the time passing. All too soon it will be time to leave and we will be heading to the Cotswolds, and after that Cornwall. The night before we leave we will be spending it in a place called Bracknell where we lived right before we moved to America. We will be visiting with some of my brother’s friends whom I have not seen in over 50 years. I may have changed just a little, but I rather imagine they have too.

So sorry to hear Sherri. I have seen many of your LO's of your daughter and she is one BRAVE and STRONG girl, hugs!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Wow, sounds like you are sharing some wonderful family moments. It is amazing the Uncle Jack is 99yrs and lives on his own!

That waterfall sounds absolutely delightful Lynnie, I googled it and want to go already. It will be on my list when I visit England in 2 yrs.

On another note...I just received my DNA results. Not a surprise but it revealed 49% Germanic Europe, 23% Eastern Europe and Russia, 12% England, Wales & Northwestern Europe 5% other Regions. I would have thought that the England, Wales would have been a bit higher as my paternal grandparents came from that region. My maternal grandparents were from Germany and Ukraine so not a surprise there. Anyways, very excited to get started on some REAL searching!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I don’t really ever want to come back. This holiday has been so amazing. We are in Cornwall right now in a place called Fowey. It is a little Cornish fishing village, a little touristy now, but still absolutely delightful. It has a history of Smugglers and pirates and all kinds of really exciting things. There are many buildings here that date back before the doomsday book. Naturally we are trying all the local pubs that also date back a long way many to the 16, 17 and 1800s. It is important to try every single one. If not, you might miss out on the best pub, at least that’s what my brother says and he’s sticking to that story. The place that we are staying right now is actually on the water. Our view is over Fowey (pronounced Foy) harbor. Every room in the flat looks out over the water and it is incredible. Probably one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever had from the cottage we stayed in.
