Julia, The days actually get shorter here in the north. I really dislike when the time changes and it gets dark at 6PM.

Lynnie, sorry to hear you are under the weather, feel better soon.

We are actually having some record warmer temperatures these past few weeks and I have had to cut the grass and rake leaves several times already. I am really hoping that this chore is over for the season now but you never know. I am hoping to still get a few more cycling sessions in otherwise my seniors group starts fall hiking next week. We had a lightning storm last night that kept me up until 2AM. I did get up a couple times to take a few pics and some video but it really doesn't do it justice. So far, I haven't heard of any damage within the city.

Lost my mojo for scrapping even though I have tons of projects to get done, maybe a week break will help?
 
Shana, I'm looking forward to cooler temps and the ability to wear my sweaters! I also love pumpkin spice! When I was shopping the other day, I found pumpkin spice pudding! We're going to do ice cream with it and maybe some regular pudding. Mmm! That's an interesting question: why else do I love October? I'll have to think about that.

Lynnie, you have my empathy. I have a nasty cold too. (Did I already say that?) I'm hoping it's not bronchitis because then I'd have to see a doc and it takes weeks to get an appt. with my PCM. My granddaughter was kind enough to share her germs with me.

Karen, it's not unusual for us to be raking leaves and cutting grass into December! And wow about that lightning storm! Those keep me up too.
 
Good morning and Happy October! I attended the wedding of a former employee (he retired 10 years ago and found a new love). They asked us to be their photographers for a very small, very simple wedding. About 10 minutes after we started shooting guests arriving, Randy's camera died... we swapped batteries and lenses, and it was still a goner. So I spent the short ceremony running back and forth to capture all the special moments. What a way to get my steps in! LOL! They've asked me to make a scrapbook for them (I had made one for the groom when he retired), so I promised I would. But the bride informed me that she very much dislikes her profile... she thinks she has a large nose and doesn't want any side views of herself. Soo... that will be an interesting challenge to not use any profile pics of the bride. Wish me luck!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I got a few things done yesterday and a few more done today. Finished my homework so now I can relax a bit. Time to check out those DSD sales!
 
Hello! Lynnie, are you starting to feel better?

I'm struggling to stay awake. I've had a good series of committee meetings, board meeting, youth tour director conference, site visits, and presentations to our communicators group over the past week. Weather was simply GORGEOUS in DC while I was out visiting new museums to see if I should add them to my youth program itinerary. This morning, I set the alarm for 4 a.m. so I could be at the office by 5 a.m. and start waiting on hold for the airlines group sales. Today was the day they opened their schedule for next summer's travel dates, so I wanted to grab flights the moment they became available. In record time, I had my group reservation booked well before 7 a.m. (the longest I had to wait on hold was 12 hours). I got the flights I wanted... but.... the price!!!!!!!!!!!! The cost per ticket MORE than doubled (almost tripled). So now I need to find ways to cut even more expenses from my already lean program. By the time we add on luggage fees, it's going to cost around $1,000 per person to fly. Egads.

Anyone know of any really rich people who want to support youth leadership programs? LOL!!!
 
Shana, good to see you back from your trip! The most exciting thing that's happened to me this week was I got a parking ticket while at band practice. I thought I'd checked into the right zone but I must not have. Also, there are a couple of pallets of shingles in my driveway. They're going to re-roof our house over 6 months after the damaging hailstorm. Amazing! The new roof will be more resistant to hail, and the insurance company is paying for most of it, fortunately.

Sorry to hear about the ticket. Band practice? What instrument do you play? I played French Horn / mellophone from 5th grade through college. Ooh... a new roof sounds exciting! Especially since insurance is covering the costs.

Hubby is super excited that we're going to watch the new Tron movie tonight. I'm hoping to do some scrapping this weekend. I still need to edit the wedding photos I took last week, so hope to tackle that first thing tomorrow.
 
@breoni I play the clarinet in Eren (my youngest's) college band (as a volunteer--there were only 2 who signed up for the class). Eren asked me to help, so I am. At least for this semester. Don't know about the next one. Depends on if I need to get a job or not. Eren played the mellophone in high school band and college pep band! Their primary instrument is oboe.

We're going to see the new Tron movie on Monday! How cool is that? Good luck with your wedding photos!

Howdy! Really hoping to find time to scrap sometime this week. It's just one of those weeks where everything is just flying by. And because it's getting dark earlier and earlier, my brain tells me it's time to for bed much earlier. LOL! Hope everyone is having a great week!
 
Having a good week over here, Shana!

Hubby got most of Monday off, so we got to hang out. Also, people came to temporarily take off our solar panels so we could get a new roof. The roofers are here today, so it's been loud. Yesterday I did my volunteer work then came home and had a nap. Got very little done. Today I am crushing all the things, especially homework. Tomorrow night I am going out with some friends. Friday I have an allergist appointment. Saturday we'll maybe go get some pumpkins in addition to our usual shopping. Fun stuff! :giggle:
 
Happy Friday, all! I had one of those mornings were I had so much work stuff on my brain, that I woke up at 4:30 a.m. So I went ahead and went to work extra early to tackle some of these projects. Randy and I have fun plans for this evening. We're going to go to the local amusement park (Worlds of Fun) and enjoy their spooky decorations. But as soon as night falls, they turn on the fog machines and that's my cue to leave. At night, their staff dress up in scary costumes and go around frightening the guests. You can purchase a light-up necklace if you don't want to be scared, but I find it safer to just head home! LOL!

Our theme park does that this time of year too. Not for me! They do a GREAT job, but I don't like horror films and I do not like being scared. Love the fun decor during the day and on Halloween, but that's enough for me. I'm with you, girl!
 
Randy and I took a moment and actually sat down at home to watch a movie. Oh my... EVERYTHING available seemed to be a horror flick. LOL! Just let me watch my happy British baking show! LOL! I'm looking forward to this weekend. We have the first of two Dia de los Muertos festivals to attend. This weekend, we will head to Emporia, KS, where they have parades, booths of all kinds, and basically a street festival. The kids all dress up in their costumes and the businesses set up Trick or Treat stations outside on the sidewalk. It's a fun community event. Next weekend, we'll go to the festival at the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City. They'll have people in full makeup and costumes, folklorico dancers, and crafts.
 
Shana, that sounds like a lot of fun! Our church is having a Halloween party this weekend, but we aren't going, mostly because we don't have kids, lol. But maybe I'll give it a second thought. Halloween used to be my jam, but then I went to college and got married, and it isn't hubby's jam. He'd let me do what I wanted, but we don't get many kids here, so it's not worth the effort.

This immediate past weekend, we bought pumpkins, went shopping, worked on classwork, made baked goods, church, and had our youngest for dinner. I can't believe I'm already at another last week of class! I get a week off this time, so I'm determined to read the book for book club and not go without a clue (again).

This week will keep me busy. I'm working 2 volunteer shifts, going to band practice, and doing the final bit of homework. I think I might have a dentist appointment in there somewhere. I'll have to call them and make sure. But at least I will not be bored this week! :)
 
This is a really busy week for me - I babysit four days, I have my Daughters of the British Empire meeting and I had another meeting today. I am just tired! Let's all find an island with no internet (except a direct line to GingerScraps) and go on a digital scrapping retreat.
 
Happy Wednesday, all! My event yesterday went well. Wish we would have had more people, but the training session was good and the business session went without a hitch. I had to pack a coat and I'm loving the colder weather, especially in the mornings. Hubby wants to go comet hunting tonight, so I'll be sure to bundle up for that. Brrr.
