Michi - you sound like my type of person. I have a crochet project with me every where I go. Currently, I'm on a plant hanger kick to go along with my obsession with having many different types of houseplants growing to hopefully transform my new choir room space into an oasis in August. The plant hangers that I'm making can hang on a wall with a small/medium plant. I had thought about hanging some from the ceiling but then I couldn't remember if the ceiling is really high in the choir room or not. If it takes a "cherry picker" to reach the ceiling then I wouldn't be able to hang anything from the metal braces that hold the ceiling tiles in place. I've put the plant hanger patterns that would work for that on hold for now. I'm making a stockpile of the wall hangers to use on gifts later.

My husband surprised me with a short trip out of town to a yarn shop yesterday, but had the wrong time for it to close in mind so we arrived with it closing in 10 minutes. The owner was so sweet and stayed for an extra 15 minutes while I decided on a few new skeins of yarn to try. I've set it aside to work on a dressy scarf for me and I may start that project soon.

I worked on repotting some plants today and discovered that the airplane/spider plant we bought about 3 weeks ago that just refused to dry out was so root bound it wasn't even funny. I had to set it outside tonight to try to dry it out enough to loosen the roots so I can repot it. In the heat that we have here, it will probably be ready later this evening or tomorrow morning.

Ane, have a lovely time, and YES!! Go for that degree. My dad told me that they only had enough to send one child through college and that would be my brother because girls get married and have children. I heard "You can't go to college." I pursued my Bachelor's in Computer Science when I had three children. When I had FIVE children, I went for my MBA. I was working full-time and got an MBA. You can totally do it!

Michi, Glad to hear hubby is doing well in his Cardio rehab. My mother was a knitter - I have the most beautiful things she made. She kept every knitting needle she ever used, I think. I have over 100 pairs! I don't know what to do with them, but I can't bear to part with them. I knit, but not nearly often enough to make it worthwhile. For Christmas this year I am finishing a scarf my mother had started for my daughter. Mum died two years ago. Karen will be thrilled to bits with it. After that, I just don't know what I will do with the yarn and needles, not to mention the books :) They don't take up too much space, so I am not going to get rid of them. Who knows, my daughter might like to knit at some point.

Susan, my daughter loves plant hangers. At one point she was trying to macrame some. That was such a thing when I was younger :) She is a plant person. We have a massive spider plant under the stairs that lead up to our condo. Every time Karen comes, she takes a few babies and pots them. She has plants everywhere you look.

Don't admire my energy too much - I have no energy at the end of the day and I often feel overwhelmed. I keep a list of everything I do because I forget. Friends sometimes tell me to say "NO!" to new commitments. The problem is, they are generally my own ideas. The thing is, I only do things that are fun for me, or that I get a great deal of satisfaction from. Most of the time, it is like indulging in fun stuff all the time. I am taking on a new commitment that is worrying me a little. We have decided that we are going to home-school my grandson, Bruce. He is on the autism spectrum and has childhood apraxia of speech. Children often make fun of him because of his speech issues. He is too young to learn to cope with that at present and the speech makes school difficult. He is super-bright, but very difficult to understand. I have taught college classes in English, Math, Algebra, and Computer Science, so I have the skills. I am worried about coping with the behaviour issues. I am rambling. I am with him four days a week and the experimental days have gone really well so far. Summer is a test.

On top of that, my grandson in England, Luke, has just been fitted for hearing aids. He will have surgery to put tubes (grommets) in his ears, eventually, but until that can be scheduled, he needs to have hearing aids. I was a mess the day they told me, but hopefully it will improve. At present, he can hardly hear at all.

Lynnie, You are brave one to home-school but it sounds like you are more than qualified and since you are with him a lot already I am sure he would feel very comfortable. Also learning in a home environment would be great for him at this stage, kids can be so mean sometimes. I hope the hearing aids work for Luke, cute layouts of the boys.

I'm truly impressed Lynnie, but if anyone can do it, you can! I'm saying extra prayers for you.
Just remember, as I'm sure you already know... extra processing time. Be patient. Sending lots and lots of love to you!

Managed to complete what Granddaughter and I are calling Gotta Dance- Book 1. Shutterfly was having a sale that ends today and I made it! After submitting it, hubby discovered a mistake on a page- ugh... I UL the wrong jpg that had 'text text...' on it instead of THE text and added 'stuff' .

I had a typo on the COVER of my wedding album through Shutterfly. However, since they have the 100% customer satisfaction guarantee, I was able to send back the book with the typo, fix the typo, and reorder the book at no additional cost. I would reach out to their support team and I'm sure they'll help you!

Hi all. I just got caught up in the comments. I am glad to be back. We had a great youth tour with wonderful students. We got to do everything I had planned, and we left the DC area before the crazy heat wave hit. If you'd like to see the photos from our trip, you can visit https://photos.youthtour.org/2024-Youth-Tour/Kansas-Hawaii-Youth-Tour.

According to my pedometer, we walked a total of 48 miles last week, then I came home to "rest" but instead hubby and I cleaned out and reorganized the garage. So my body is feeling every muscle right now. Ha. I hope to get a chance to work on some layouts this week, but leave again this afternoon for a training event I'm hosting.

WOW! Shana... those pictures are awesome. Glad to see that you finally got in a couple yourself. lol
The video and pix at the Nats game were hilarious! I hope they won for you. So neat that it was a couple of the kids first game!
Way cool that you got to see the female guard at Arlington! WOOHOO! I absolutely love that your kids learned flag etiquette. Something that is just not taught anymore. So frustrating to me at school. I get free speech and everything, but we say the pledge only on Mondays, and then not everyone even stands. grrrrr... You can keep your mouth shut, fine, but you should at least stand. You're living here. You're enjoying our freedoms. Okay, I'm done now.
I got teary at how many kids rubbed names from the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
Y'all did SO much. SO THRILLED that ya got to see "my Marines"! lol. Aren't they just amazing?!? Okay, I'm a tad biased. Too bad you couldn't catch a show at 8th & I at night. OMG!
Yes... I perused every pic... not individually, but looked at the entire album. WOW! (again)
You obviously work your tushy off, along with all the chaperones. Well done.

WOW Shana, your camera must have been smoking! They are lucky kids to have you do all these photos for them.

thank you! I didn't know that on the 100% guarantee. I figured since it said once you click here it's done... I also discovered a few other pages, I neglected to UL to it. So, I will probably just print them and stick it in the book Loose.

Thank you, everyone, for your words of support. I applied to a school and am just waiting to hear back. I won't bite my nails, but I might pace, LOL!

We had a wonderful weekend with my son and his family (includes the grands). They were so happy to see us! SO much fun. :) We went to an air show Saturday; it was 92 degrees and the wind was blowing, but it was still too hot for the kiddos, so son and DIL took them home after only a little while (Lena also refused to drink water, which the rest of us were chugging). We'll try again when they are older.

Lynnie - Your family is so fortunate to have you be able to homeschool your grandson. There are so many more resources out there now for homeschooling then there used to be. Even though I teach in the public school, I've seen so many kids flourish in homeschooling situations when public school wasn't working for them. The district I teach in has begun offering a virtual setting and has dedicated staff for those students. A few teachers that I've worked with have had their own children (high school age) take part in it and they graduated early and have been very successful. I've been following a few former students of mine who have chosen this route because the traditional setting wasn't working for them and they have flourished.

Shana - What an adventure you had with the Summer tour! You definitely have earned a rest!

Ane - good luck with your pursuit of starting your Master's!

The airplane plant took more days to dry out enough to separate and repot than expected. I finally got to it today. What was one hanging basket turned into 6 separate pots. There are a few babies that may be close to being ready to root in water but I'm going to give the main plants a few weeks to establish before removing any of the baby plantlets. I discovered that the airplane plants that we've been babying since this time last year has put on the stem that will eventually grow baby plantlets and has what looks like one already trying to sprout on the end! I was so excited because it took a whole year for this one plant to even look like it was trying to grow. So with that, there is hope for the ones I repotted today.

Carla, yes… we had a blast and honestly, the flag etiquette course was one of the highest rated activities. Our kids became flag experts and would point out things that they had learned.

And yes…I think my lens was smoking by the time we were at the end of the trip. I left my DSLR at home and took everything on my iPhone. Each day, I would upload my photos and videos to the SmugMug gallery and delete things off my phone to be ready for the next day. It saved my back and shoulder muscles by not carrying my heavy camera for a week, and I didn’t have any editing time as everything was already uploaded. Win win!!!

Sending you hugs, Carla. I hope you have a good support system in person with you today.

Thanks all. Ya know... it was much, much better than I expected. We had a nice turnout. The weather was beautiful. It was catered by a dear, old friend of ours from high school who we hadn't seen for years, but we see on FB almost daily, so that was wonderful and we knew each other's parents quite well so he was "honored" to serve for my mom. How sweet. I gave my speech and only shed a couple tears. Our daughter Lacy did wonderfully well. We stood together for moral support.
It was nice and I'm very happy. ...sigh...
Thanks for the online support... I felt y'all here.
Love ya!

Carla, I'm glad everything went well! :)

How are your weekends going? I went to the gym yesterday and ended up with possible shin splints (I had walked 2 miles the night before). I'm guessing I overdid it. We did some shopping today and worked a little in the garden until the heat and humidity got to us. We'll probably do more tonight as it cools off. Tomorrow is church, and I think that's it for the day.

We got the "little" (not so much anymore, but) grands this weekend so it's been a BLAST! They're in and out and in and out and in and out, well you get the idea. I'm exhausted, but so happy. They're so much fun. They make me laugh. We've done crafts and played games and they've made a fort in the backyard out of old branches and ridden their bikes around and played until after dark... all stuff they can't do at their condo in town. I miss having them here, but they're so busy with sports now that they're older.
Great weekend, but back to normal quiet tomorrow. *****sigh*****
Have a great week.
Love and Blessings.

How fun! My mom promises that the hard parts of parenting are worth it for the grandbabies. Some days, that's what I cling to, lol!!

Ane, hope your legs are feeling better. We had a BUSY weekend. My nephew and his GF had a huge family party for their toddlers who are turning 3 and 1. So yes, I got some adorable cupcake smash photos! LOL! They also had a bouncy house and the three-year-old wanted me to go in and play. Whoo... that was a challenge to my balancing skills. That night, my brother had the family over to play in their pool. It was a late night, but fun. The next morning, our daughter and her BF asked to go to the zoo. So we were joined by a couple of my nephews and walked 5 miles throughout the Sedgwick County Zoo. It's a very nice place and the weather was actually lovely. I thought I felt just fine, but then we spent 2.5 hours in the truck to head home, and by the time we pulled into our driveway, my legs were so stiff that I wasn't sure how graceful I was going to get out of the truck. LOL!

Luckily, this week is a three-day work week for us. I still have to cram in a full week's worth of work so I can be prepared for the upcoming youth leadership camp and our big summer meeting that will follow. And I just realized that it's JULY and time to download this month's challenges! :)

TOTALLY WORTH IT, Robyn!!! Every ache, wrinkle, sore knee, back, elbow, and sleepless night! HAHAHAHAHA!!! All for the cuddles, love, laughs and HUGS!!! Completely and totally worth it.

Sounds like your weekend was worth it too Shana!

Happy Independence Day to all my American sisters! :)

And to my Canadian sisters, I hope you had a great Canada Day! :)

Dearest Carla, I hope things are easier now the funeral is over. It is surprising how wonderful funerals can be. You enjoy the memories, seeing people you haven't seen in a long time and there is a feeling of warmth being surrounded by so much love. The aftermath is sometimes hard, but you will get through that, too.

Robyn, hang in there. Being a grandparent is wonderful!! You will get through motherhood!!

Shana, busy as ever. Big hugs ...

There was so much to answer and I completely forgot what I was going to say.

I have been busy, which is why I have been absent. I don't even remember everything I have been up to there was so much. I think I mentioned I am helping to homeschool Bruce. Well, we are trialing it through the summer to see how it goes. It is just Kindergarten, so I can pass that without too much trouble haha. We are also trialing different home-schooling software to track his progress and attendance. So far, it is going way way better than I expected. It is a lot of work, though.

I have also been working on a wedding. The Bride was going back and forth, back and forth, on font sizes, etc. The end result was lovely. I then printed them, the RSVP, and various other things. My friend (the Bride's mother) came over and helped cut them. We then put the invitation in the vellum and got everything ready to mail.

August 16th this year is the 80th Anniversary of my Uncle Stan's death in WW2. He was in the Royal Air Force and his plane crashed on a special mission over Italy. There is no one left on this earth to remember him, just me. He died before I was born, but I grew up with his stories. My brother did also, but he doesn't 'know' him the way I do. There is a website called For Evermore, Stories of the Fallen, which memorializes folks who died. I have been working on scrapping headings and pictures for this. I submitted one version before I realized I could do so much more. I am now praying they will update it with my new story. It has taken hours and hours of research. I thought I knew about his last mission, but I was missing so much information. I have since downloaded all sorts of Operations Record Book pages, and done more research on what happened.

I have also been very busy with the Daughters of the British Empire. I am active at the local and state level, now it looks as though I will have some work at the National Level also.

I have lost track of the rest of the stuff I am up to. :) It has seriously interfered with my scrapping time, though.

Lynnie, a BIG THANK YOU for posting the website Evermore, Stories of the Fallen. I had no idea this website was existed and I instantly found some helpful information for my genealogy research that I have fallen short of achieving!! My one great-great-uncle that died in 1916 is on Vimy Ridge so I found him but had no idea of so many others. I can't wait to discover more. :)

I can spend hours browsing around Evermore - it is a very touching site. I am glad it helped you, Karen. May I also suggest that you look for his regiment on Facebook? I have got more information on my Uncle from his two squadron groups. They have banded together to help me with record logs and all kinds of other things.

Happy Monday, all! I had a good holiday weekend... spent the first half up in Nebraska to see family and friends, and then spent the second half at the house getting ready for our student leadership camp. We leave Friday morning. So much to do! LOL!

Well, it's official, sort of. I applied to grad school and am mostly admitted. They have my college transcript and other things they needed. I have a student id and all, but I cannot enroll/register for a class yet. I'm not sure what they are waiting for. It didn't take this long to hear back when I was admitted to my original college. How long does it take to hear back from colleges these days? Or is it just because it's grad school?

Anyway, I'm doing fine, otherwise. Not getting a lot of scrapping done, but I am working on a scholarship essay. I'll probably write a bunch more also. Sigh. Who knew it was hard to get back into school mode after being done for almost 30 years?
