Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2026} Let's get to know each other!

I am babysitting today. Scarlett wanted chocolate waffles and mini pancakes for breakfast. When she was done with hers, she eyes my scrambled eggs and toast and said "I need your eggs!" After she had finished my eggs, she said "I need your toast!" When she was done with my toast, she looked at me and said "I need Mac and Cheese!" She ate three bowls.

She is TWO!!

Hello everyone .... it's been a busy few days for me. Yesterday we spent "hours" at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh for my grandson RJ's yearly appointment. He was a micropreemie and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (he's 6 now and quite a handful); so once a year they do a full check head-to-toe to see how he is progressing with his foot brace and his occupational and speech therapy. I had the task of entertaining my granddaughter Hazel in the waiting room --- or shall I say she entertained everyone else. She danced, she did gymnastics, we colored, and some cuddle time for Hazel and Mimi as she asked me to hold her and rub her back. I couldn't resist when she said "You know Mimi, I love you so much." How could anyone resist that? lol !

I am exhausted though and am taking a lazy day ..... I am putting off my cleaning on scheudle today until tomorrow. So I need to scrap.

I keep forgetting about the "slow scrap" ...... I need to go check that out. None of the challenges are inspiring me at this particular moment.

It's snowing here in southwestern Pennsylvania ... AGAIN ..... ugh! Our sidewalks just thawed out and now they are snowcovered again. And the salt my hubby puts down on the porch and walkway is heck to get up out of the entryway carpet that he tracks in coming home from work. I'm literally running that sweeper every other day.

Any great plans for the weekend? Saturday is a rest day for me after my week of babysitting. Sunday is daughter Karen's birthday and we are driving to her place (about 1 1/2 hours) to celebrate. I have to bring a craft project for us to work on. I am pretty excited about it :)

No special plans for this weekend. Hubby's taking pictures at a wrestling tournament and I'm writing a paper. The world's worst, probably. Hubby did make up for it a little--he had a singing valentine "delivered" to me today. <3 Surprise! I don't have anything that good for him, just a card. But in my defense, everything on his wish list is expensive (near $1K or more).

I hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

Actually, Karen's birthday is NEXT weekend. I am all discombobulated. So today I am going to cook some lovely meals for my husband and tomorrow I have to get ready for a meeting on Tuesday. Monday I have to help sort out a huge closet full of records going back who knows how long!!

For those of you who remember Sherri, I heard from her daughter, Alexis yesterday. She sent me a lovely postcard from the British Antarctic Territory. She sent it in December and it only just arrived. She has been all over the world. It is an inspiration because she is suffering from Long QT Syndrome, which is the same thing Sherri had, and was ultimately the reason she died. Alexis is pushing through and accomplishing so much, in spite of her disabilities, perhaps because of them. That young lady is an inspiration!

Here is Sherri's gallery in case anyone wants to browse through it:

It's Sherri's BD today. Her real birthday, as she celebrated three over the year. Her BIRTHday, Feb 14th, the first day she was resuscitated, her BD 2.0 in 2012 and then her BD 3.0 in 2023. For being a "grouch", she was a very special "grouch". <3
I'm glad that you got a card, Lynnie.
Never did hear from the kids after we sent our check with our sympathy card. It concerned me that they didn't get it, but it was cashed. I hope by them. I still can't believe she's gone. I think about her so often. She used to message me at the most random times and it always seemed to be right when I needed to talk about "something".

We are not big on Valentine's Day here since it is my daughter Kaitlin's birthday. So today while her hubby takes her out to eat we get the grandkids for the afternoon. I don't know why we spent the morning cleaning, it will look like a cyclone went through when they leave and we will have to clean again. LOL !!! But I love spending time with them ... we are treating them to happy meals from McDonald's today instead of buying them anything for Valentine's Day, they are alreay super excited. Plus, then I don't have to cook. ;) (win, win for me)

I slept in this morning to wake up and find that my hubby made breakfast pizza, and he bought me a cute little heart necklace, and bought me a box of chocolate pretzels (which I already started chowing on). Again, shocking because we don't do Valentine's. But how sweet ... it's nice to get a random suprise like that.

It's starting to warm up here in PA .... it is a balmy 52 degrees. I am up in my office with the window opened. Gonna try and get some scrapbooking in before we are invaded by the grandchildren.

Thanks for the welcome reminder Lynnie

Hi everyone, I haven't participated in a few months, life just took off at breakneck speed & it was hard to keep up again.
Didn't leave much time for scrapping & I had to stand down from one of my CT positions.

I was volunteering at school in the STEM space again & then started helping the P&C again as a new team took over.
I was encouraged to become a teacher aide a number of years ago by a very dear friend but the thought of going back to school after being a signwriter for, well all my life (thanks Dad <3) was really daunting but I bit the bullet & I'm on week 3 of becoming an education support worker/teacher aide.

I have found it really great so far, my classmates are lovely & we are all in the same boat learning wise, older ladies who want a career change. I am still making signs but also juggling a friday cleaning job and study for now.

Hope everyone is doing well

On Facebook Alexis had a post where she said “the first to respond would get a little something from me.” I was first to respond so she sent a postcard. She left to travel the week after Sherri died, I think, for that big conference and has been traveling ever since. I rather imagine she has not had much time for acknowledgements. And they are still kids! I sometimes wonder if they ever learn to send thank yous! Haha.

Lynnie, talking about the Olympic sports that we watch but also participated in. Well, I have been skiing a few times, but I would have never done it competitively. The same goes with ice skating, in fact, I have a very hard time staying on my feet.

However, I was a competitive swimmer when I was in high school, though never to the Olympic caliber. I did, however, have the honor of sharing the water with an Olympian when I was in high school. One of the swimmers was a high school student from another high school here in Lexington and her specialty was an event I swam. Needless to say, I was smoked, but it is still a fun memory.

This weekend, not too much going on. Paul took his girlfriend on a date this morning and then this evening we went out for dinner, and then came home. I have been watching Olympics all evening.

Melissa (@honeybee), sounds like a great day with the grandchildren and what a lovely surprise from your hubby. We didn't do much, just went out to dinner with my gift certificate, but it was nice. I am quite cross that I didn't get a picture, though!

@Sams Scraps, How nice to see you back! Good luck with your teaching endeavour. It sounds as though it is something you will love doing. I am hopeless with kids, but better with adults who want to learn.

@dorannmwin Dorann, I think I would be terrible on skis. I can't imagine what would inspire me to buckle two sticks of wood to me feet and hurtle down a mountain where there is probably an ambulance at the bottom waiting for me, ha-ha.

I hope you all had a good Valentine's.

Ane, your husband was surely happy to receive a card from you. What matters isn't the value of things, but who gives them to you. For me, my greatest treasures are a sweater an aunt gave me, a teddy bear my father gave me, among other things, including a birthday card my father sent when he was in another country and couldn't send me anything except a card, which I still have after more than 20 years.

Carla, I'm so sorry you lost such a good friend. I was on several teams with Sherri, and she was always kind to me. I met her somewhere else before we started working together, in a site that closed. I remember how much she loved her children. I'm sorry they didn't send you a message thanking you, but that seems to be the problem these days, people have stopped being polite, and it seems that love for one's neighbor has grown cold, which is sad.

I've been watching the Olympics, it's a good distraction when it's been snowing outside and the temperatures are so low. My only worry is that I'll gain weight if I keep eating popcorn with extra butter and don't exercise. In my defense, I've tried drinking more water and doing my tai chi routine while watching some of the less demanding events. Talking about sports, I've loved exercise, and I was good on cross-country skiing, actually I competed once in the Vasaloppe, when I was 34, and I managed to cover the 90 km (56 mil) in a good time, but I didn't win. I think a Norwegian won, as they usually do. At nowadays, I can barely manage 30 km on skis, but I like doing it in winter. It helps me stay in shape and avoid losing muscle mass, which is a problem as you get older. When I was in college, I competed in cycling, actually, I was on the cycling team, and I still cycle in the summer, but I just do for fun.

I hope you all have a wonderful start to the week.

Well, the "crud" has officially hit our family. Me and my youngest son are pretty much out for the count, and my daughter and my two grandbabies have it too. Tis the season I guess. If the weather would quit changing its mind so often we wouldn't have these issues. We are starting to thaw out from that snow we had (we got a little over a foot), we can see the grass again. It's going to rain today and tomorrow but I would rather have that than any more snow. Good excuse to get some scrapbooking in or job hunting online ........... I vote scrapbooking. :p(y)

Hope everyone is doing well! I am babysitting (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays). The kids have been SO good today. I am so glad. Wednesday are always tough, I have to be here before 6 and I always have trouble sleeping the night before. It is an 45min to an hour drive from my house. I stay over at my son's house on Wednesday and Thursday nights. I always worry I won't wake up in time. Steven is gone by the time I get here, but Nessa always has to leave pretty early on Wednesdays. Then I have Bible Study on Wednesday at 5. It is on Zoom, so I don't have to go anywhere, but the kids tend to be pretty noisy during the study. I am hoping Scarlett takes a nap, that is usually the easiest, although it is a little late for a nap.

What are you doing the rest of the week?

Don't forget to go and vote for Layout of the Week! HERE

I don't have much planned for the rest of the week. There are church activities tonight and Saturday night I probably should go to, but I'm not feeling them (feeling rather hormonal right now). Mostly I have to research for my paper that's due in just over a week. Tomorrow night is Senior Night at Eren's university's men's bball game, and they are honoring the pep band seniors as well. So naturally we have to walk out with Eren as they are in the pep band. It was sold out (they can normally get us free tickets) so we had to go to Stub Hub to get tickets. Crazy. They are super popular now that they are in the top 25.

Everyone have a great Friday! <3

Still feeling horrible, just been laying around. Haven't gotten much scrapbooking done. Maybe tomorrow I will lock myself in my office and get creative.

@FormbyGirl I used to be a part of a weekly Bible Study and I loved it. I just do morning readings every morning and on Tuesday's I research my own Bible Characters, Bible Words, and a Bible Verse of the Day. I have a creative bible that I can color in and also has places for notes which I use often because I research words, terms, etc. if I come upon them in my readings and have no knowledge of them. My cancer journey brought me closer to my faith than I have ever been.

@AJsRandom good luck on your research paper. I miss school soooooooo much. My advisor tried to talk me into my Masters and I drew the line -- I said this is it, I got the Bachelor's Degree ... I'm done.

I think I am going to go make me some lunch and crash out on the couch for the rest of the afternoon. Tonight is pizza night and watching "The Pitt" ... so bring on the show. I am obsessed.

We have had our weekly Bible study on and off for over 40 years :) we have had gaps where we didn’t meet because of distance, but thanks to Zoom we are all back together.
Thank goodness for Zoom huh? I've had cancer support groups meet via zoom and it has been so convienant because while I am still recovering I can stay home and not worry about driving into the big city to meet with the group.

There are just some days I just don't want to get out of my PJ's and have to function as a normal adult.

I actually had to set a daily goal to get dressed. I realized I had an issue when I went to my son's to babysit and my laundry only consisted of pajamas. I wore them every day at home and every day when I stayed over babysitting. I only got dressed when I had to go out. I realized I needed to get dressed a little more often haha.

I don't know if any of you are participating in the GingerScraps Book Club, but the choice for March will be Remarkably Bright Creatures, which is a fabulous book!
