My dear friend, Cathie Marie, has been admitted to hospice. Her sister let me know yesterday, and it has greatly saddened me. She is across the world, so I can't visit her. Some of you who were at DSP will remember her. She was a wonderful scrapper and a delight. We spent a lot of time together. She would fly to California and stay with me; I would fly to England and stay with her. We have been unable to get together on the last few trips to England, but we tried. If she lasts until September, I will see her then.

Oh that is sad news. I remember Cathie Marie and meeting you both when you came here. I do hope you are able to see again.

Rae, Your book room sounds wonderful. I recently found a 3-book series written in England about an elderly gentleman that takes a walk to see a co-worker which turns into a pilgimage. It will be my summer reads.

Lynnie, so sorry to hear of your dear friend, I wil be praying for you both to meet again. I do hope you feel yourself soon as I know how draining life can sometimes be.

Sherri, I was talking with my son yesterday, he is in Banff and he says the rain has been steady pouring for days. He is not happy unless he is outside on his days off and being stuck indoors is aweful, so he says!

I am still sorting my photos and hope to do some pages of my trip soon.

Have a good day everyone.

Lynnie, I am SO GLAD they've had Bruce formerly diagnosed! WHAT a true Blessing! Now they can get him therapy. Those boys I worked with are THRIVING now (as adults) and it really was due to early intervention and that was late elementary and middle school. They are so much earlier!

Glad to hear there's rain WHEREVER in Canada. Hope it continues.

Good morning ladies. I'm heading out thrifting this morning with a new friend I met recently at the local ladies group. My fave decor store has their summer sale on so we'll pop in there, do some thrifting and then have lunch somewhere. Then tomorrow morning I go for a walk along the dike with another new friend and will bring remi. The afternoon Fri coffee is at 2 with another bunch of ladies. It's nice to have girlfriends now to do things with.

I'm 1/3 way thru Golden Girl and am enjoying it. The pool guys put in a new liner and the pool is filled now. They have a few more things to do and then we need to heat it up. Hubs is looking at solar panels which a lot of people out here use b/c we get a lot of sunshine.

I ordered a new carry on piece of luggage for our trips. It is a size compliant bag that looks like a mini suitcase but has shoulder straps and is like a rectangular tote bag. I want to start packing lighter and putting most of my things into two carry ons. I will check in one luggage but that will hold a few extra things that I can do without if it happens to get lost during the flight. Last time I was so upset to have my luggage go missing, thankfully we found it but it taught me a good lesson.

It has cooled off a bit here so the next wk should be nice for going to the dog park. I don't mind this at all b/c I know the crazy heat is coming soon. I am not a fan of the July/Aug heat here, often high 30's, low 40's.

Karen - Enjoy your summer read. I can't wait to see what the book club gals pick for Aug and Sept to read. That sucks about all the rain Banff is having. Hope it clears soon but I guess that is good for neighboring wildfires. I too have lots of sorting and transferring of holiday photos to do. I shoot raw so there is the extra step of applying some basic edits before storing online jpegs. I have been scrapping a bit with the photos and it sure is fun to remember the moments.

Lynnie - So sorry to hear the news of your friend. Hope you get another visit with her. What a good thing it is that Bruce has been diagnosed and now can get the help needed, especially at such a young age. Yay.

I have been successful in limiting my coffee intake to 3 or 4 but mostly 3 a day. I've been drinking earl grey tea and green tea. That is a big reduction in the 8+ I would normally drink.

I'm getting off the computer and getting ready to go out in a bit. HAGD everyone.

How appropo to get a rainbow for your Hawaii delegation's arrival, Shana!!

Hope they can give you all some useful advice for Bruce. Bless you all.

hot hot hot here today.

Happy Saturday everyone. It still seems weird that it really doesn't matter to us if it is the wkend or a weekday LOL. Now that we are retired, wkends are just another day, pretty much. Today Jen and I are going to rearrange furniture in the media room (I'm not going to call it the dog room anymore since I'll be starting to use the room for my ladies group get-togethers). I'm on the lookout for a secondhand club chair to fit into one corner. I also want to look for a large print for one wall, its a big space so I thought I'd look for a secondhand painting rather than paying for expensive framing for one of my own prints. It'll be fun to scour secondhand stores, looking for something.

I'll send in some dog photos to get printed so I can get them into a 4x6 collage frame to hang in the media room. It will be an eclectic mix of furniture and wall hangings but I am really starting to enjoy going in there now. It's not going to be anything special, but it will be a room we will enjoy hanging out in. There is still lots of room for the dogs to play in there (and take advantage of the soundproof walls, so they can bark and play without bothering my hubs upstairs).

I want to read a bit, scrap a bit, maybe the template challenge, today. I need to figure out dinner, I'm so lazy. If it was up to me we would have sloppy joes or burger/salad everyday but I need to figure out other simple fast dishes, for variety. Maybe a stirfry.

Glee - you can keep the hot weather today. We have cooled off to the 60/70's and will enjoy it b/c I know the heat is coming back again soon.

I'm getting more coffee and getting on with my day. bfn

Hi everyone! How did your weekends go? Mine was pretty quiet. We did some shopping Saturday, some errands, and hubby worked on his honey-do list. He also got his Father's Day present and spent some time playing with it- a new mirror-less camera. I couldn't tell you the exact model off the top of my head, but it's a good one. It's taken very scrap-able photos so far. :) Oh and Eren and I caught colds, probably from hubby.

Yesterday was church and I had a nap because I woke up early for me, about 7:30 (I'm one of those weird people that need about 9 hours of sleep). Then we kinda hung around the house while it rained for a bit. Would have gone for a walk but this cold is really smacking me in the face hard.

This coming Saturday, we are going for a quick trip to Utah to meet my new grandson and take some family photos. I wish we could spend more time out there, but it just isn't happening. My oldest son & family are moving soon, and he'll graduate with his MBA after that, so that and the job search is making life stressful for them. We don't want to put extra stress on them by staying long.

Now I've got most of my CT assignments for the week, so I'm off to scrap. I hope y'all are having a great Monday! :)

We had a lovely weekend :)

On Saturday,I had lunch with an old school friend visiting California from Oklahoma. She was out for Father's Day. Her dad is 99. We had lunch on the patio of our village restaurant. The view of the snow-covered mountains is fabulous. The service is slow, but the food is delicious and worth the wait. She was out in April for our High School's 50th reunion.

Following that, i went over to my friend's house; the friend we have been helping. My husband was putting together two shelving units. These will hold all her baking canisters for flour, sugar, nuts, cocoa, etc. Then I organized her appliances (kitchen aid mixer, chopper, waffle maker, smoothie maker, etc.) in the cabinet where she can reach them. There was also enough room for her baking pans.

Sunday was Father's Day. We drove out to my son's house, and my daughter met us there. It was her first time seeing baby Scarlett. We had a lovely barbecue. Karen had to leave, but Steven, Nessa, and I played Harry Potter Scrabble. If you are an HP fan and a Scrabble fan, this is the game for you. We LOVED it. Steven bought it for me for Mother's Day. We got home late, and I had to go walking. I didn't get my steps in until just before midnight. That was cutting it close.

Today I had a chiropractor's appointment. After that, I met someone at my friend's house. She was picking up an Inversion Table. We had given it away on Buy Nothing. I was so glad to get it out of my friend's house. She has high blood pressure and a heart condition, both of which prevent the use of an inversion table.

Then I took my friend out for lunch for her birthday, and here I am! I thought I would get some scrapping done :)

Lynnie, I am so saddened to hear about Cathie Marie. I do hope that you are able to see her when you travel in September.

I believe that I have caught up and frankly, my brain is mush and on overload! haha! Prayers to all!

Someone mentioned rain.... we went for almost three weeks without a drop of rain and then, for the past three days it has done nothing but rain. We have had horrible electrical storms with high winds and heavy rains. 7+ inches over the past three days. The sun is shinning this morning but we are expecting more rain this afternoon.

Stay safe out there!

I just need to share here bc I right now I have nowhere else to share it and it's so devastating. Our dear friend Kimberly and her daughters Isabelle and Erika lost their husband and father, Brian, to suicide last Thursday! It's just so shocking! Nothing would have indicated to them or anyone else that he was even considering this. Seriously, they were the model, Christian family. They lived up here in MN for years and moved to FL several years ago. We participated and chaired Relay for Life here for years together. He began work as a cruise-travel agent and was doing remarkably well. When we visited FL, we got together and had a great time. Both girls were wonderful. Belle was out of college and working for Brian. Erika had just graduated from HS and they had just gotten back from a two-week celebration cruise. Kimberly was off for a walk and Erika was at the gym and Kimberly came home and found him. I don't know any details, but it's just so unimaginable to me. I've had an empty feeling since last night, crying off and on. I can only imagine what my girls are feeling. I just want to HUG them all but they're so far away and THAT makes me cry even more.
Anyway, that's all. Just needed to share.

Carla, that is devastating! I'm so sorry for your loss and for his family. Unimaginable. hugs

Lynnie, HP Scrabble sounds fun. You're always so busy. My life is pretty calm. My hubs and I were just commenting Saturday night as we did our almost ritual F/S night star gazing in our yard before bed. A glass of wine, the stars and eachother...we know how lucky we are. It never hurts to be grateful.

Oh Carla...so sad. I lost my uncle yrs ago to suicide, we never saw the signs, it was an internal mental struggle for him that he hid well. It breaks my heart that a soul struggles so much and feels there is no other answer but to leave this world.

Glee...that sounds like such a lovely way to finish off the day.

I'm heading out for coffee with the ladies group this morning, then off to the dog park, have to take advantage of the slightly cooler temps for a few days. The heat ramps up again by the wkend. I will be home this afternoon to relax and putter around the house and will read some more of my book The Golden Girl.

Carla, I'm so sorry to hear that about your friend! Sometimes we just don't know what drives a person to do that. (((HUGS)))

I'm just existing as my cold has developed into bronchitis. Bummed that I can't go to the gym with hubby today as the coughing is so bad. I hope to be better before Saturday.

Carla, I am so sorry to hear of the tragic passing of your friend's husband. I send HUGS to you and your friend's family during this very difficult time.

Carla, that is so sad. My brother's partner's husband committed suicide. She always says "he chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem."

I'm asking for healthy positive vibes and prayers this morning, please. I'm getting tested again by the eye specialist to see if the new medication has worked to slow or stop the progression of the glaucoma. I sure hope so. I've lost some peripheral vision which is ok, I don't really miss it but pray it is stable now so I don't lose more.

I'm going to Friday coffee with the ladies group and then need to go get some antihistamines for the multitude of mosquito bites I got yesterday on a 2.5 hr hike yesterday around a lake. I took a few photos along the way. Today I am loading them into my online storage. I saw lots of baby ducks. Tomorrow I will head out there again for an hour or two, taking a few more photos. Then on Tuesday, a friend is coming to town so we'll head into the grasslands again for more photos. I love this time of year with all the duck babies.

Ane - how are you feeling?

I'm getting more coffee and get ready for my appointment. Hope it goes well. HAGD everyone.

Carla huge hugs, that has to be so hard for his family and friends.

Alberta had snow in lots of places and rain, I’m not sure where our forest fire level is at now.

Alexis got an award bronze merit award in girl guides, im so proud of her.

It has been so hard for her to give up everything to take care of me. Which she is doing an awesome job of.

I’m still not feeling very strong, lots of tests coming up, lab work, an echo, some vaccinations,

Rae- I am feeling much better. I got a chest cough/cold medicine which is helping a lot, and lots of rest. I feel well enough to go on this trip tomorrow. Might wear a mask, even though I'm past the contagious stage.

I wish all of you an awesome weekend! I will check in when I can, but otherwise I'll be back Tuesday afternoon. :)

Sherri, please let us know when you are up to a Zoom call and I will arrange one. Give Alexis our love and tell her how amazing we think she is.

Rae, let us know how the eye doc appointment went. I was at the optometrist a few weeks ago and they said they can no longer improve my eyes with glasses and I have to go and see a specialist. Hopefully I am still okay to drive. She is concerned about glaucoma. The earliest I can get in is October.

Ane, Glad to hear you are feeling better.

I had the best experience with customer service today from Canon. I got a new printer a month ago and it was a living nightmare!! I set it up and the colours were awful and it was double printing. I have been too busy to give it any attention, but today I called Canon. The line was answered by a cheery little auto voice that asked me questions and understood everything I said, but told me I needed to set up an online account and register my product. I went into my account and registered the printer, then called back. The auto voice REMEMBERED who I was, what I had called about and transferred me to the right person immediately with no wait. The person I spoke to was happy and cheery and walked me through fixing my problem. The printer is printing perfectly now. I am so happy.

Lynnie - my appt went well, thankfully. The new drops are working to decrease eye pressure and I go back in four months if I feel ok in the meantime. He says I will need another laser treatment but not right now. I'm hoping this means the progression will be slow and not greatly affect my eyes for years to come. But, I know that there is no guarantee in the progression so for now, I take today's news as good. I am sending you good "eye" vibes too. Glaucoma is scary business as it is so uncertain as to progression so I sure hope we both are at the slow end of the scale.

I'm going to relax tonight with a movie, just not sure which one yet. Tomorrow I am home except for a visit to the dog park. Maybe I'll get pumpkin muffins baked tomorrow (I've been thinking of making these all wk but have been procrastinating).

Sheri, Nice to see you on the chat. Alexis is such brave and strong woman and you are truly blessed to have her. Hope things go well with your health. My son had snow in the mountains in Banff, he made a day of it with his friends and hiked up, looks pretty but no thanks. I am enjoying the nicer weather here in the praires.

Rae, hoping the best for you with your appointments. My Mom had glaucoma topped with poor vision all her life, it is a hard thing to live with.

Finally the weekend, hoping to catch up on some house and yard work and get a couple layouts done.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Didn't make muffins today. Went to dog park and drugstore but that's it. Otherwise I was fighting with photoshop all day. I think there was an update that messed my program up. Whenever I tried to import a photo it crashed. I finally had to delete it off the computer and reinstall. Then I had to start loading my actions, brushes and styles. Not done yet but got enough loaded to scrap with.

Ugh, I hate those updates that don't seem to improve the product but only cause problems.

Good morning, ladies. I'm back from my Youth Tour. We had a great trip with the 31 teens and saw so much. I've gotten all of the photos into the gallery and sent out to the sponsors, the kids, and their families. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for us... and for the first time ever, we actually had a COLD day in DC. We were drenched when we were at Mt Vernon, so we had to turn the bus' heater on. Ha. But other than that, weather was great. We flew home with no delays and hubby had the house cleaned. I unpacked and slept for 10 straight hours. When I woke up, he'd even done my laundry for me! Yesterday, we were out attending birthday parties and weddings, so I'm happy to have a day home today.

My nephew and his GF are expecting baby #2 on Thursday (she's getting induced). They know it will be a little girl. So that's super exciting.

Time to start working on some layouts. I have LOTS of stories to tell from the youth trip! :)

Shana - glad you had such a wonderful time. I'll be looking for your LOs. That's exciting about a new baby in the family.

I'm heading out for a brunch with the book club ladies and then home to putter and maybe scrap later. I still haven't made my pumpkin muffins. I should do that this afternoon.

HAGD everyone.

I usually have quiet, stay at home weekends, but not this one. Bon dance season finally returned, for the first year post covid. Friday night was the kick off dance at the big white landmark hongwanji (Japanese Buddhist temple) in Nuuanu. We did get rained on, but nobody really cared.
They always have a fantastic boutique of pre-owned Japanese goods, from paintings, to dishware and kimono. I love it, the prices are cheap and the fabrics so beautiful. Since my closets/cupboards are already bursting, I forced myself to look only. That was difficult. I did by two kimono ties (narrow handwoven belts, you're supposed to tie them over your obi.) I wear a cotton yukata, the more casual summer robe, so use those as a belt. It's too hot to wear a silk kimono and wrap the waist tightly with layers of a wide obi. But I love to look at and photograph those who do wear them. This year I talked to a young lady in a pretty sunflower set. She'd painted it herself and gladly posed for photos. Scrap pages, forthcoming!
Yesterday provided more great pix as it was the big garden show at the art academy. I took a friend as her bday gift, and we had the best time oohing and ahhing over all the creativity. She was also an art major at UH like me, so it was marvelous.
Today, just kicking back and enjoying my sister's photo dump of a chic wedding she attended in NYC.

Glee - sounds like you have had a fun wkend! I am still fighting with photoshop and if I can't troubleshoot and get it working today I will have to call adobe which often is a waste of time b/c they just blame the computer not their software. If they can't get it fixed I don't know what to do. The computer is working fine, just not PS or LR.
