I don't post here very often so I apologise for muscling in but, on seeing the posts about it, I wanted to share my emotion over the passing of Queen Elizabeth 11. Australia is part of the Commonwealth so she was our Queen.I am surprised by the amount of grief I am feeling over her death, of course I knew it had to happen and you could see her go downhill following the death of Prince Phillip, but I'm having trouble getting my head around her not being here any longer. I was 9 years old when I travelled to Newcastle to watch her drive by on her Australian tour...my aunt packed up rugs, food, drinks etc and we took up residence on the street in the very early hours of the morning in order to get a front row view. Then in later years, she visited the town where I live, but at that time, I was a young mum with three small kids and couldnt face the crowds in the city. Her route back to the airport to leave the town passed down a suburban street near me so I packed up the kids and took them to watch and wave as her entourage drove down that street. What a wonderful woman, she performed her duties right up to the end, having seen out the old prime minister and welcomed in the new just two days before her death. She certainly lived up to her vow of serving her people to the end of her life. May she rest in peace now with her soul mate of so many decades.
