Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!
All you that are searching for your ancestors.... Have you gone to
www.familysearch.org? I'm not sure if it is free or not. For me it is but there are so many records there and a really great search engine. I'm not a genealogist but I might be able to help you. You can FB messenger me and I can see what I can find.
On another note, I have finally gotten back into scrapping and I hope that means that I am feeling better. The cough is still there but I actually went to bed at 2am and slept until 11am which is so much better than the lay in bed from midnight til 5am coughing my guts out then drifting off to sleep until my alarm wakes me up. Here's to hoping anyway.
I have used familysearch.org for years. They have some amazing information there and it has proved really useful. There are just some branches where names were misrecorded and what have you and they get really tough to trace. I am so anxious for Friday, when I get the potential birth certificate for my great grandmother. She has been a puzzlement for years. It could be that her name is not Elizabeth, but actually Lizzie on the birth certificate. If that is the case, I have to give up an entire line of ancestors that I have carefully cherished for years

However, someone will benefit from my research, I am sure. I will be sad to give up the only pictures of my great great grandparents that would no longer be mine! Anyway, it is rather exciting to close a gap in the tree.
I have been working on my dad's side, too, while my cousin Mary is here. Last night I scrapped her a family tree (for our joint ancestors) and family group sheets for my great grandfather and mother and great great grandfather and mother. We have pictures for most of the children going back that far, so that is exciting. They look so pretty. I will post them when I have a minute to do the rest of the stuff that goes along with posting (like saving at the right size, credits, etc.). I did them for my paternal grandfather's side. Now I have to do my paternal grandmother. Mary is beyond thrilled.
On the 'cough note,' I am still sleeping upright in a recliner, cuddling a pillow. The minute I lay down the coughing is so bad I can't sleep. During the day, though, I feel pretty normal, which is excellent. I am not getting long sleep, though, even in the recliner, so I am really tired.
My idea of a perfect birthday would be to stay home alone and scrap! However, that is not happening, so the next best thing (which is really the best thing, when you come to think of it!) is being surrounded by friends and having a cake at work! Then I will go to my Bible Study, which I love. Then I will go home to a family who cherishes me and whom I cherish beyond price.
Tomorrow, we will all celebrate at my Son Steven and DIL Vanessa's house. I get to see my kids (daughter Karen is home from a gig and she lives with them!). I get to see my brother, who is driving from Ventura just to say Happy Birthday to my husband, Rand, my mother and me! My husband's birthday was yesterday, mine today and mother will be 91 tomorrow. How fun is that!
Good morning ladies. Lynnie & Heidi - get well soon. Nothing worse than constant coughing and trouble sleeping.
This morning my hubs is off to the doctor. He's had pain and nausea for a few days so will go get it checked, could be appendicitis, hernia...who knows. Hopefully just a pulled muscle. He carries extra belly fat so straining is always a possibility. I keep bugging him to join me in a low carb diet to reduce stomach girth but no luck so far, ultimately it's his decision on how to treat his body, but it frustrates me, wanting him to be healthy.
I'm heading off to Value Village this morning (I pop in a few times a month). We have awesome stores that get in some really great items. After I lost a ton of weight a few yrs ago I had to replace everything (except socks) and a friend suggested I check out some of our local consignment stores and I was shocked at what I could find. I've been going ever since. I'm a pro now at scanning thru the aisles quickly and knowing what is going to fit, so hardly ever have to try anything on. I still shop at Fred Meyers, Kohls, Winners and a few stores at the mall but I'd say at least half my wardrobe came from VV. We have 3 outlets within 15 minutes of home.
Later I'm going to bake two loaves of banana bread, went to do it last night and discovered I was out of baking soda so have to hit the store first.
Desk work and paper work for me today and working on a CT page. That's about it for me. Hope you all have a great day.
I am slowly getting better, but am feeling loads better, which is what counts!
Your husband has my sympathy. My stomach has been giving me grief since I was in hospital with it in July. I am convinced that eating healthier and losing weight would solve most of my physical problems, but I have lacked the willpower so far. I WANT to be healthy, but the call of the cookies is a siren's song to me. Actually, cookies, chips, sweets, and all manner of other unhealthy foods. It is a combination of not enough sleep, a hectic schedule and no clear food plan. I always plan to start tomorrow, but tomorrow is an elusive date and today is never appealing enough. I will, though, I know I will.
Your Value Village plan is excellent. We are so consumer-driven. When I look at what my grandparents had growing up and then I look at my house, which is bursting at the seams, I realize we have WAY too much. I am a big believer in recycling and reuse. We don't use paper plates, cups or utensils at home. I minimize use of paper towels, etc. I use fabric napkins. We use reusable produce bags and I always use reusable containers for storage. For birthdays and Christmas we give the gifts of time, talent or treasure. I still own way too much stuff though. Amazon is my Santa, a habit I need to break if I am ever to retire next March.
I love this group - I wish we all posted more often
