Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Well, what an adventure. I have been sick for so long, I forgot how it was to feel a bit better. I am doing so much better this week and am back to work after over two months off.

Last week was spent in Hawaii, which was a nice way to round off a time of being sick.

I would like to say that I was amazingly well in Hawaii, but that was not the case. I was ready to cancel up until we packed up the car and headed to the airport. The day I arrived, I spent in bed and one or two other days, but I was well enough to go for a nice boat ride down a tranquil river and to go to a luau (although i could not eat much). I spent some time lounging on a chair in a garden overlooking a beautiful beach. It was very healing.

AND... I have loads of pictures to scrap :)

Sick or not I would have lounged on a chair in a garden overlooking a beach............. and been very happy doing so too. I'm glad you got to go and relax. Welcome back to work, just in time to retire, right?

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Having a good weekend so far. DD got her driver's permit this week, so DH is out there right now teaching her some driving basics. It kind of scares me that they're doing it in the dark, but hey, she has to learn how to drive in the dark too.

Glad you are feeling a little better, Lynnie. Where in Hawaii did you go?

I am planning on retiring early next year. I was ready to retire in October, but I can't collect Social Security until next year. I think I might collect both my paycheck and social security for a few months and get some stuff taken care of before I retire, so I don't have to dip into my savings. We will see. My first few days back have been okay, if I don't have to take on anything that taxes my brain too much, then I should be okay. If I find it all too stressful, I will retire in January.

Good luck with the DD and her license, Ane. That is so nerve wracking.

I am feeling much better, this has been a good weekend. I went to Kauai. I may have explained earlier that I was in a friend's wedding 40 years ago and they were renewing their vows. My husband and daughter went, too. Her best friend is my best friend's daughter. I think the rest did me the world of good. Kauai is beautiful, but I did not really see a lot. I do have some incredible sunrise pictures to scrap :)

I spent today cuddling my new grandson and being so grateful for my daughter-in-law. She is so incredible.. She has a beautiful spirit and loves me as much as I love her. She is like a daughter. They are the cutest parents in the world. Steven has appointed himself "Burper in Chief," so as soon as Nessa is done feeding Bruce, she hands him over and Steven coaxes burps. He changes diapers, rocks him, gets up in the night with Nessa to get her drinks, etc. if she needs them while feeding Bruce. They are the sweetest couple on the planet.

My mum went with me and had a little cuddle with Bruce, too. Tomorrow, my husband and I will go. It is about an hour drive, so it is not that close, but it is worth every minute.

Lynnie, So nice that you and mum were able to get cuddles in with Bruce and having a great relationship with the DIL is so important. I too have one of those DIL's. When the kids were planning their wedding she included me in with her mother on all the bride stuff, picking out her dress day was the best! We now go together with her mom and sister (and sometimes aunt) to a scrapbook retreat. I only make cards or work on projects that weekend (don't do any digi stuff) and can't wait for this year's event in November.

Ane...I know how stressful driving lessons can be for your kiddos...I did the teaching for both my boys and have to say they are great drivers. Hubby has NO patience!

Heidi, I agree, I would lounge anywhere on the beaches of Hawaii, what a dream that would be!

Cleaning up my scrapbook room for the past couple weeks, sewed new curtains and will be having a sale for unwanted supplies in September and hope to paint. Bought a new computer yesterday as my old one is getting too slow, comes in mid-September and want the room all done by then.

but....back to work tomorrow!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

I am glad you have a lovely DIL, it sounds as though you have a great relationship with her and her family. I am pretty close with my DIL, Hannah's, family in England. Her mother is a very dear, funny, wonderful woman and her step father is amazing. I have stayed with them when I have been to visit.

I like Vanessa's parents, too. I am closer to the father, oddly enough, than the mother. He is a real estate agent and handled the sale of our last house. He is a very nice person. The mother is beautiful and seems really nice, but she is harder to get to know. We have had fun together at a few Karaoke nights at their home. I hope that, over time, we get closer. I would very much like that. Especially now we are grandmother's together.

The other thing I neglected to mention in my last post was that I picked up a rather large donation of paper scrapping supplies on Friday. I do both Digi and Paper scrapping. I run the Village Memory Makers, a scrapbooking and paper crafting club, in my retirement community. I thought that, when I moved to a retirement community, we would have tons of people who wanted to scrap their memories. Instead, I found that people are downsizing and want to get ride of their scrapbook supplies. As a result, I have had so many things donated. Friday I loaded up every inch of my car with scrapping supplies. I mean TONS of scrapping supplies. There were two HUGE bins and a box of paper. There was a giant box, a 12x12 folder and a shoe box of stickers. There were several very large boxes of wired ribbon and additional boxes of narrower craft ribbons. There were boxes of wooden decorations, beads, fabric, yarn, stamps and four beautiful albums. So much stuff. I took the yarn to a neighbour who crochets hats for babies in the hospital. I need to sort out what to do with all this. I could open a stamp store.

When I got home last night, I shopped in the 65% off sale. I know many of the items are being retired, but so what. They are very inexpensive and worth every penny!

Lynnie, Karaoke would be so much fun, we bought my grand daughter a machine for Christmas in 2017. She has so much fun with it with her friends.

I find that people scrap for awhile and then give it up and I have found some good yard sale finds myself. I receintly bought 5 Stampin'up stamps and punches for $50. I mostly do cards and on the wall projects but supplies are so expensive that a good find every once in awhile is nice. Too bad we didn't live closer, I would love to come to your Village Memory Makers club...sho knows maybe I will make it to California again some day.

Back to work today and I have an album to put together for printing and 2 sewing projects unfinished. I am just not ready yet!

Too bad you are not closer - there have been boxes and boxes of nice Stampin'up sets that were just handed to me. I don't stamp, so I just passed them along to my daughter. Not just one or two, but boxes of hundreds and hundreds of stamps. Recently I had five big boxes of beautiful stamps. Some of the stamps were huge and wonderful and never used. I have one box now to hand over to my daughter. The things is, she doesn't use that many, so she has been finding places to donate them - such as creating a bundle of school stamps, etc.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

How's everyone doing? I'm about to head out to a high school football game to watch DD in the band, although that might get cancelled due to forecasted bad weather (I just heard thunder). We don't really have any plans for this holiday weekend except a church picnic tomorrow. That's all that's happening around here anyway. Everyone take care and have a great weekend! :D

Ane, Sounds more fun than me...just cleaning my scrapbook room, having a sale next weekend and then painting for a fresh new look.

It is supposed to rain all weekend here as well. I am not really ready for the cool weather to set in yet but I guess it will come whether we like it or not! I have a family birhtday on Sunday and test driving a couple SUV's with my youngest son...he so needs a new vehicle and one that is safe. Other wise not much happening here...

Have a happy Labour Day weekend everyone!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Happy Labor Day weekend ya all.

Not much happening in my life at the moment. My son is in CA playing soccer at the North Huntington Beach Cup. They lost their first game and tied their second but funny thing is that my son scored in both games. He plays center back and rarely scores other than a header on corner kicks. I so wish I could have been there to watch him. Another game tomorrow and maybe they will get to play in the semi's.

And today I cleaned the garage. My annual project or so it seems. All summer long things just collect in piles because it is too hot to actually put stuff away. I am a weirdo and actually vacuum my garage with the shop vac when it is all organized. It looks so nice when it is all put back together.

Nothing happening Sunday or Monday. Hopefully I can just be lazy and get some scrapping done after church. I am so far behind in my grandkid's book's. But then again, maybe we will drive the 25 minutes to go see my grandson open his early birthday gift. I can't resist a good gift for this kid that is entirely too spoiled, by me. Hahaha

Have a great weekend.

Thunder? I do miss a good thunder storm with some rain. We don't get enough rain to keep me happy here.

Sounds like a busy weekend. I need to organize all my supplies. My son is coming out from England and he needs somewhere to sleep :)

HUNTINGTON BEACH? WHere are you! Huntington Beach is practically walking distance from me (well, that may be a slight exaggeration!)

It is your obligation to spoil your grandkids!

I want to see the Northern Lights :)

Four of us drove over two hours to see my brother perform yesterday. He plays at a little bar and grill a long way from here and I love to go and see him play. We had such a nice time. The three women who went with me are friends from high school. Considering we are heading towards our 50th reunion, there are quite a few of us in regular contact. It is surprising. Many of them have stayed more closely in contact that I have, but I love these women like sisters. It was a great day, someone else drove and I got to relax. We met with my brother and his long-time girlfriend, Teri, who has known him since 7th grade. They have been together for 10 years.

Today my husband and I spent at Steven and Nessa's house admiring our grandson. Steven and his dad spend a lot of time working around the house while I hung out with my gorgeous and much beloved DIL :) and my grandson!

Tomorrow is book club. We read "The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend..."

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I loved going to small hole in the wall clubs and listening to music like that, I bet you had fun, I haven't done it in ages though. I do go to concerts as often as the pocketbook allows though. Music keeps us young.

Today was first day of school for both kids. I am the mom that hates seeing them go back. I love having them home with me. Although alexis does online school, I really dont see her more than I do the one that attends school. Other than passing in the kitchen or the hallway.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Guess this is the best place as any to jump back in.

What a CRAZY summer it's been.

But School started back yesterday for our kids so falling back into the regular routine again will be nice. I haven't scrapped a single page all summer! After 2 weeks in Disney World I have THOUSANDS of photos to sort through and lots of magical memories to scrap :) Wish me luck!

To add to all that - I started up not 1 but 2 businesses this summer (along with the home daycare I've been running for 11 years now). I started creating Educational busy bags for kids and already selling in 2 local stores as well as online and I'm designing kits again (I missed designing ever single day). So excited to get my creative juices flowing again :)

It is fun to find small pokey places that don't cost any more than a beer!

I always worked, so it was a relief having the kids back at school and not having to juggle care for them. When they were older, it was nice knowing where they were. The days home involved a mess to clean up when I got home from work and lots of nagging.

I love the THOUSANDS of pictures of Disney :) How many Disney locations have you been to? Me, just California and Paris. My daughter worked both for a while, so we got lots of free admissions.

Tell us more about educational busy bags. Talk more about designing kits again...

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

It seems as though we used to chat more on this page. I miss seeing what everyone is doing in their everyday lives. Please come back and share what inspires you - what makes you happy - who makes you happy - what your pets are doing - what your kids and grand-kids are doing - how are your parents, brothers and sisters - what do you love about your life - what do you love about where you live - why did you move there - where would you live if you could live anywhere and your family was completely on board - what would be your dream career - so many more things. I miss you all. I went back recently to update some parts of my journal that were blank and read through so many posts. It was fun, a trip down memory lane. This is a GREAT source for journaling if you are working on Project 52 and you are faithful about posting.

Personally I've only ever been to Walt Disney World in Florida. We make the 2 day drive every year for our family vacation (From Southern Ontario, Canada). In a few years we are planning a trip out to Disneyland in California. My oldest daughter, Auzre-lee, wants to do the Collage Exchange Program when she's older (she's 11 now).

Educational Busy Bags - for years I've been creating printable activities/games for the my daycare kids to do. Something fun for them that keeps them occupied and they learn at the same time. Counting, colours, early literacy, pattern matching etc. I design them up, print out on cardstock, laminate and apply velcro dots when needed. Over the years parents have been asking me to make them some, and now I've had request from friend of the parents, other local providers, and even now schools. So the end of June I began selling them directly through local FB groups and word of mouth. I'm now in 2 local stores and have a bunch of upcoming festivals & Craft sales to do.

Kit designing - Back in 2007 or 2008 I began designing Digi kits and loved it. Before opening up my home daycare I was a Graphic Designer so it was exciting to use those skills and put my college training to use. Few years back I had to step down from Designing and focus on my family. I'm finally at a place now where I can jump back in and I've been creating up a storm :) I use to design under the name Ohana Designs, but made a switch this year. So much has changed over the years in digi scrapping so I felt a new beginning was the way to go. Now I go by Snapdragon Digital Creations.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Wonderful! Be sure to let me know when you come out this way :)

My bosses daughter did the college thing with Disney and still goes back to work in the summers. She loves Disney.

I never get tired of it!

The busy bags sound fabulous. My best friend used to home school and did all kinds of great stuff for her kids like that. I was in awe of her creativity.

Great designs! (I looked you up!) I will troll your gallery soon and make some comments. I am at work, so I can't right now. It is okay to take a short break, but not okay to spend the whole day here, much as I would like to.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Happy September.
It was a busy summer for us:
1. Baseball All Stars for grandson.
2. Granddaughter had her first dance recital.
3. Daughter/Son in Law and the 2 g'kiddo's left on June 12 for a trip to Greece via UK on the way back July 6. They had a fabulous time. [Son in law is half Greek, so they rented an apartment and saw his godmother and several cousins.]

4. We took Riverboat Cruise on the Columbia and Snake Rivers in the Pacific Northwest [June 20-July 4].
5. On July 6 while DH was playing golf he noticed his leg was red and swelling...off to the ER. admitted for 3 days - cellulitis. It was bad. They removed a toenail as infection had set in.
6. July 11 older daughter flies into to see dad [until the 14th].
plus more dr. appt. tossed in regarding the toe.

7. July 20-27 we went to the beach, Longboat Key. However not in the water.
8. July 25- DH had a bone in the infected toe removed.
Annual Physical then My birthday.
9. Aug. 1-4 flew to New Orleans - family gathering with his brothers/wives and trying to figure out family heritage photos.
10. Aug. 5- Son in law back to teaching school- preplanning.

11. Aug. 12. Grandson started school.
DH birthday
12. Aug. 19. Granddaughter MWF preschool age 3.

13. Tryouts for baseball.
14 Hurricane Dorian!!! Stressful for the state of Florida but we are all fine. Very blessed.

And trying to keep up with CT duties...

Back later to read and try to catch up.
m

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Definitely perfect for going back and catching up on Project 52, Michi! You have been busy!
Hope hubby's toe is all better.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

My life isn't very exciting, but I suppose that can be good too. DD will get her driving permit in the next week or so, then it will be more driving for us! She has to have 50 hours of driving, 10 at night, and 9 months with a permit, plus driving with a drivers' ed teacher before she can get her license. So she will have to wait until a couple of months after her birthday to get it. We did tell her she could get the permit earlier, but did she listen? Nope.

Besides that, we had a nice holiday weekend. We went to a church picnic on Saturday and went apple picking on Monday. We've also been gearing up to renovate our master bathroom. We even talked to a design specialist who was very helpful and gave us all sorts of ideas. Now we have to figure out the difficult stuff- financing!

I am looking forward to cooler fall days, but they're not here yet, sigh. Guess I'll just pretend it is by hibernating inside as usual, LOL.

I dream about renovating - but I can't really afford what I want to do, so I get lazy about the rest. I have to get off my duff and just CLEAN this weekend, my son is coming from England next week and I have to shift stuff around so he can sleep somewhere haha.

I am looking forward to cooler fall days, but they're not here yet, sigh. Guess I'll just pretend it is by hibernating inside as usual, LOL.

Hibernating is actually quite nice :) much better than the scary sun.

I’m currently laying in bed with the blinds open watching an evening thunder storm go through the area while tracking it on real live lightning. Really cool. Considering how rainy our summer was we didn’t have much for lightning shows.

I love thunder and lightening, assuming no one gets hurt. The growling of the thunder and the shaky booms and counting when you see the lightening to see how far away it is. Nature's fireworks.

My husbands birthday is coming up. I always have a hard time buying for him, he just always gets whatever we wants or needs.

I think my family feels that way about me. I can be difficult to buy for. All I really want is time with them. Arrange a date or a movie or an experience that is special. I think those are the best. I got Rand season tickets to a local playhouse once, we had dates all year long. It was lovely.

My oldest sister called and is coming to visit from bc. I haven’t seen her in two years. We didn’t grow up together and forging a relationship as adults has been interesting. Mom gave her up for adoption and she found us about 12 years ago, then last summer I helped her find her bio dad .

My best friend found a host of brothers and sisters when her real dad found her. He left when she was a baby. She sees them all the time now, with her mother's blessing.

I have another friend who was adopted under sneaky circumstances. The birth mother went into hospital under the adoptive mother's name, so it was as though the real mother never existed. My friend only found out after her adoptive mother had died and there was some suspicious paperwork in the attic. We had known her whole life.

Anyway, finding brothers and sisters has been very positive for both of these women. I wish I could find mine!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I can't believe I went out and bought a new laptop today. I was just so frustrated by how slow my laptop and desktop are. In all fairness, they are bogged down by stuff I have installed. They would probably have benefited by a reinstall, but I wanted to just start fresh, so I bought an awesome gaming laptop that has all the power I need to SCRAP!

Save me from myself - someone - anyone :)

I don't jump in to often, but read most of what everyone writes. I hope your lifes are all going better now and life is getting great. I just wanted to let you know I will be adding a few layouts this month but won't have time to do much else. The birthday celebration came at the wrong time. We are leaving today after church to go on a three week trip. We won't be back home until October. We are going to St. George, Utah to visit my son and he has tickets for three plays at the Toucahn theatre. Then we will be headed to Gilbert, Arizona to see our granddaughter baptized. Then we will head to Tucson with the family for a couple days. They will go back home and we will stay for a few more days and visit some places my ancestors lived. Then we will go back to Gilbert and then home. I am also hoping to get some birding in and see some new birds I have not seen before. I will need to try and keep up on journaling and doing a few pages here and there when I get a minute.

I am just going to install things as i need them. Naturally Photoshop was the first thing haha.

Nice to hear from you. Your journaling layouts are an inspiration. It sounds as though you have quite the trip coming up!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

What a busy weekend!

My son, James, is arriving from England on Tuesday (without grandkids and DIL, but I can't have everything!) I have been frantically clearing out my craft area on the enclosed balcony in our condo to make a cosy room for him. It is a little warm out there, but I think he will be fine with the big fan we have and the personal cooler. I am so excited to see him. His 'room' looks fabulous and very cosy, but now I have piles of craft stuff behind my couch. My goal is to sincerely downsize that. No one needs THAT many craft supplies.

I bought a new laptop computer last Thursday, as I mentioned above. I wiped the old laptop, and my desktop and started from scratch. I was having problems with lag time and I know it is because I overload everything with way too many programs.

We turned the desktop into a Plex server, so now we can view photographs, music, movies, etc. on any TV, computer and phone in the house. What fun. It also drives my Silhouette and scanner. I like that.

I got loads done over the weekend:
  • Room ready for james
  • New computer installed
  • Old computers wiped. Desktop set up as a home server.
  • Envelopes, Invitations and inserts printed and mailed for niece's baby shower
  • Poster done for DIL's cousin's wedding
  • Poster done for friend who run's concerts from her home (yes, concerts! Big home!)
  • Meals cooked
  • Loads of cleaning

This week is our office client conference. I am getting my 20 year award at the conference. I have been here for almost 22 years, but we did not have a conference last year, so they are catching up!

What did everyone else do over the weekend?
