Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hard to believe it is Monday. It has been really hot here, so I have not been moving around much. Staying in my PJs and lounging around all day :) I have been doing a bit of scrapping, watching a lot of television and doing some crafting. It is about all I can manage.

On the other hand, the people at the office have been lovely. My boss called just to see how I was, and encouraged me to take all the time I need to get well. Another person sent a house cleaner over for a day. Another has asked to come over and bring food and housework :) I do work with lovely people. I have had numerous emails to say how much they miss me.

All said and done, I think I am ready to retire. I need to get well, then be here to take care of my mum.

I have a reunion crop coming up at the weekend. It is all my friends from the Digital Scrapbook Place, which closed down a few years back. Many of the folks have settled here, quite happily. We have seven people coming, which is not a lot, but I think this will be annual and, over time, we will have quite a few more.

We will also have a photo walk in San Juan Capistrano and the mission. I think I will take folks there. I have spare tickets to get people in and will settle myself in the shade where I don't have to worry too much about getting exhausted. The combination of the heat and exercise will be a little much.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

So sorry I have been MIA for awile. I have not been well, Mom had a fall and work is busy.

August already...how the summer is flying by but I am now on vacaation until the end of the month :). Hoping to get some scrapping in...so far behind and I bought 2 vouchers for books that expire at the end of the month so have to get my Cuba LO's done so I can order my book. The other one is done, Mexico trip but I have to put it all in order.

Trying to spend some summer quality time with our grand-daughter, taking her to the movie's next week to see Lion King, Festival happening later in the month and a few sleep overs. Have to get those cuddles in...she will be nine already and has so many friends that we are sometimes put on the back burner :(.

Starting off vacation with a massage later today and yoga in the park on Wednesday, then we will see what comes our way!

Take care everyone and have a happy August wherever life take you.

That is so hard to cope with. My mum has had two falls this last week. How on earth do you get her back up? I am still working on that.

It is always good to get a little vacation time in :) HOWEVER, good luck getting two books done so quickly. You are a terrific scrapper, I am sure they will be gorgeous. I decided I would do the year week by week and spent almost a whole day getting my weeks organized and I am trying to get the week layouts done. It is much easier when you get organized :)

I LOVED Lion King. I just can't figure out how they got the Lions to act like that - and to sing? Those are some talented animals in that film.

Starting off vacation with a massage later today and yoga in the park on Wednesday, then we will see what comes our way!

Oh - a massage - sounds lovely!

Take care everyone and have a happy August wherever life take you.

You, too, Karen.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

This was a wonderful weekend, mostly :)

We had a reunion of my friends from Digital Scrapbook Place, which closed down in 2014. We looked at pictures from our first big laptop crop in January 2007 and all the crops since. We looked at pictures of trips we took all over the state, country and even the world for some of us. There were not many of us, but one had flown in from Florida, one from Washington State, and one from Northern California.

We started our weekend, as we often did, with a photowalk. This year we went to the Mission at San Juan Capistrano and the historic Los Rios District. We went out for dinner after and had a lovely time, laughing over old memories.

We started scrapping early Saturday morning. I had a room booked from 8:00am to 10:00pm so we could scrap our hearts out. It was so fabulous to catch up.

We had two Zoom calls during the day where a bunch of our old friends could join us. We had such a glorious time catching up with old friends. It was as though no time had passed.

Some of our friends had sent their 'flat selves' to attend our event. It was our tradition to send 'flatties' to any DSP event if we could not attend ourselves. The flatties attended weddings, laptop crops, photowalks and sometimes just went on holiday with people. We have layouts of our flat selves having parties, laying around swimming pools, and even getting a little tipsy. They did a photoshoot with an Abercrombie and Fitch model one time.

We scrapped, we laughed, we cried, we ate, we went out for dinner. Some of these people I first met in person over 12 years ago and we have done so many things together. We have shared secrets and shared the most special moments, births, deaths, marriages. We have shared tough times with our kids, asked for help when we needed it and relied on these friends (most of whom we have known IRL and online).

I am so blessed to have these people in my life. The last time we got together was in 2015 for a wedding. Members flew from New Zealand, Colorado, and all over California to come to the wedding. Most of the members attended in flat form who could not be there in person. We have vowed to do this annually.

I would love to do a GS laptop crop and meet some of these people I have come to really like.

The MOSTLY part was that it was the first big event for me and I was really sick all night after the photowalk. I was a little worried that I would not be able to make it the next day. I was feeling fragile, but I managed to get through the day just fine.

Then my mother fell last night and it took forever to get her up. I was so worried we would have to call the paramedics to help me get her up. She is dehydrated, her blood pressure is low and she was not making sense most of the day. It always happens when she gets too dehydrated. I sat with her all day and make sure she was okay. She is going downhill and it breaks my heart.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Those Flattie days were the BEST Lynnie, my Flattie has travelled to way more places than my IRL self. So sad to hear that both you and your Mum are still under the weather. I hope you will both pick up soon.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

So sorry to hear about your mom, Lynnie. That's got to be hard. I'm watching my mom in decline from far away and I don't like it. She's my last surviving parent.

On the other hand, I'm glad you had such a great time with your scrapbooking friends! That would be so much fun to get together like that!

We are gearing up for back to school next week, band camp is now behind us. It's been fun having DD home most of the summer, but I will be glad to have her back in school. It;s been pretty quiet here lately, not much excitement, which is good. I don't really need much stressing me out right now. :)

Your Flattie was a ring-leader, as I recall. She lead the other grannies into all kinds of trouble :) (NOTE: The following layouts were scrapped by various of the Grannies from Oz!)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I briefly explained about the Flatties in an earlier post, but let me provide a little more background so you can all participate in the fun...

We had a lovely wise woman named Kay who started a thread on our (now closed) scrapbooking site that was for all the Grandma's Everywhere. It was perhaps the longest thread in the history of mankind! We actually broke our site on the one millionth or so post. They had to archive the granny thread and start a new one.

When we had our first in real life crop in Anaheim in January of 2007 there were loads of grannies who wanted to attend who could not, so someone came up with the bright idea to send their flat selves to the crop. So, when a bunch of us met in Anaheim from all over the country, all over the world, even, we had a table of flat grannies who attended. The idea took off and the grannies went on holiday with people, they attended every in real life crop, they attended weddings and other events. They got into all kinds of trouble our real selves would never DREAM of getting into.

The flatties became a very real extension of ourselves. When my son died in 2016, one of the local scrappers coordinated a gathering of Flatties to attend. She digitized them into a pictures in a ring of red threads - the tie that cannot be broken. I cannot tell you how much it meant to me.

The grannies wished each other 'red threads' when we were going through difficult times. It came from an ancient Chinese legend that said the God's died a red thread around the ankles of those intended to meet one day. An invisible red thread connects all those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break”.

Our granny thread never broke. We had grannies who talked about their grandchildren, but all the non-grannies wanted to get in on our thread, so they became GITs (Grannies In Training). We used to leave DBLs (Drive by Layouts) that other grannies would comment on. They were often called Reprobate Grannies. Our designers created granny kits in our signature red and purple colours.

When you came to the granny thread each day, there were often pages of posts to catch up on. There was often someone who was willing to provide a summary of recent events, but it was WONDERFUL.

The best part was that it was not a clique - it was a gang!

I have been hoping that my waffling thread would become a granny thread here. It does not move quite as fast (haha) but I do feel a closeness growing here. :) I am so very grateful to have found GingerScraps. When I was on the Creative Team at Digital Scrapbook Place, I loved posting here because someone always said something nice on my layouts. I felt the warmness and kindness of the site way back then and, when I was ready to find a new site, I was grateful to find Jill here. She was an original granny at DSP.

Big Hug to everyone!

It is hard. I think because she was still working after she turned 90, I assumed she would be strong forever. It has been hard to watch her decline since January. She had a routine surgery then that turned into a major surgery. Then she had a second surgery in March that was very hard on her. She went into emergency in June (coincidentally at the exact moment I was being wheeled out of he hospital, she was being wheeled in). That resulted in a three-week stay. She has not really recovered her strength since then. Now she is unsteady on her feet and seems very fragile. She has fallen twice and is very weak.

I have not completely recovered, so it is difficult to take as good care of her as I would like. I have been making all kinds of food that she likes to try to tempt her to eat. It is so hard though to get her to eat.

I have to go back to work in a couple of weeks and I will need to figure out what to do between then and when I retire.

We are gearing up for back to school next week, band camp is now behind us. It's been fun having DD home most of the summer, but I will be glad to have her back in school. It;s been pretty quiet here lately, not much excitement, which is good. I don't really need much stressing me out right now. :)

I remember being grateful when school was back in. I had five children, so summers were exhausting. I was not home with them, but you had better believe that when I got home at the end of the day, the house was a disaster! The older kids took care of the younger kids, but that did not mean chores got done.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Speaking of grannies - I have a new grandchild due any day. Please keep my wonderful daughter-in-law and son in your prayers, along with little Bruce. We are all so excited, so extend a few red threads their way!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I do get the feeling I am chatting to myself sometimes. Perhaps I am a little crazy :)

DIL, Nessa, is in labour. Steven told us yesterday afternoon. Nessa started running a fever of 101F last night and they diagnosed chorioamniotitis. Baby will go straight into NICU when he is born, but just as a precaution. Nessa is doing well. She is well on the way and baby should be born soon.

Keep them in your prayers.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hoping everything turns out well for them! :D

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Praying for you, DIL, baby and your Mother to be well. :pleaseangle

OH WOW LYNNIE!!! Fancy you still having those LOs!! I remember that time so well, the Flat Grannies on Tour LO was hilarious!! My hubby and I were in the airport departure lounge awaiting our flight to Melbourne when I got down on the floor and placed the Flatties around the suitcaseto take this photo...my poor hubs was very embarrassed and hid himself behind the newspaper. I was surprised that airport security didn't appear to check out what was going on. Such fun times!! Thank you for that walk down memory lane.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Baby has arrived! I have scrapped a layout with all kinds of details. I will post more information when I am allowed today :)

Baby boy (as expected), mother and baby doing well. Papa was last seen napping! His only support flaw was offering ice chips once too often when his wife was in labour :) She said he was amazing.

I put them all kinds of places, too! We had so much fun with the flatties, didn't we. I am thinking that the next time we have a laptop crop I will invited some guest flatties from GS to join us.

I am so excited. I went and spend the evening with them in the hospital. Steven and Nessa are the cutest parents. I think I am going to take my mother over their house to see them all today. She has not seen little Bruce yet.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Yesterday was the worst day I have had since I went in the hospital. Without going into too many details, I was in a lot of pain and horribly sick. I had a really rough afternoon yesterday and an awful night. I am a bit better today, but still not feeling well today at all. I was supposed to go and visit my new grandson yesterday and then today, but both days I have been too unwell. Today was my scrapbooking club and I canceled that also.

I keep asking myself if this will ever get better. It is very depressing.

So - my other really ridiculous thing is that I signed up to teach a class on enhancing hobbies with digital scrapping. In this class they will learn to create abasic digital memory page, add a background, photographs, a title, journaling, and elements to create something special. The skills they learn can be usedto create a slide for a slideshow or video presentation. They can be usedfor making genealogy books and family life stories. They can even beused to make posters, flyers, card making, t-shirt images and crafts.

I thought this was a great idea, then they asked what software they could use that would be inexpensive, since the PC Club has a limited budget. I investigated and determined that we could probably use GIMP. They are installing that in all the PCs in my classroom.

The caveat here is that I don't know how to scrap in GIMP. I am a photoshop user. SO, before mid September, I have to be proficient enough in GIMP to teach a class. I must be self-destructive - I do this kind of thing to myself all the time. SO - my scrapbook pages between now and then will slow down and will be done solely in GIMP.

Wish me luck.

Lynnie, I'm so sorry you weren't able to visit your new grandbaby like you wanted to, that's awful! I hope you're feeling better now. (((HUGS)))

I tried GIMP for a while, but it was such a departure from PS that I didn't stick with it. I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials out there for it. Good luck and have fun! :D

I managed to get there on Sunday, so I am really pleased with that :) We had such a nice time and I got to hold him for hours. I was feeling pretty poorly when I got there, but there is something so healing about holding a small baby. He is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. He is jaundiced, so he spends a lot of his time on a bili blanket. I was cuddling him and the bili blanket together :)

I am doing okay with GIMP. It is a bit of a struggle, but I am going to do use it up until I am done teaching the class, then back to my dearest Photoshop :)

I went to the doc today and he wants to see me again in about a month. My blood work is pretty normal and today I am feeling okay. I have to keep a diary of everything I eat and do and see if we can pinpoint what causes a bad day. I leave for Hawaii Wednesday and am back to work the following Monday, so we will see how it goes. I am looking forward to retiring, that is for sure, but I am feeling quite good today.

There is a 20% off sale for printing layouts at Scrapbooks to Share (https://www.sbtoshare.com/) through 19th August. The code is SUMMER. I just had 111 pages printed. I use the regular paper and it works just fine. I prefer it to the cardstock.

Lynnie - I gave up on trying to catch up on reading the thread. I'm so sorry you have been sick and that your mom is not doing well. It is heartbreaking watching our parents decline. I hope you are able to get on top of whatever is going on with your health. Maybe you need to retire early and take care of yourself.
Or maybe you need to not put so much on your shoulders. Scrapbooking in GIMP is not easy but with a PSE background it won't be too difficult for you. That class sounds amazing! Teaching it is terrifying though. Good luck with that.
Hugs and red threads to you and yours. And congrats on the new little baby. My husband's name is Bruce. :)

Hi Ane! Just wanted to say Hi. This summer has been especially crazy and I really miss chatting with you all and scrapping into the wee hours. School starts on Monday the 19th and things should calm down a bit.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hope you are feeling better Lynnie. So many baby boys this summer it seems.

I had a gi flare flare last week that had me in bed. Saw my doctor Monday and she sent me straight to hospital for some tests and I see her again tomorrow.
i hate medical stuff so much. I need to drive my girl a couple hours to one of her specialists tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hi ya'll!! I have been somewhat MIA lately. Summer is just crazy for us. I cannot WAIT for it to be over and done with. 110+ weather for weeks is really getting to me.

We start home schooling 10th grade in two weeks, I think. We have one more paycheck to save for the downpayment and then I can order the books.

We are on the last few days of 8 days babysitting 3 dogs - and we already have 2. IT's been crazy!!

Lynnie - I've been gone so I am unsure of what is going on with your health. I will most certainly keep you and your Mama in my prayers.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Checking in...

Lynnie, I do hope you will be well again soon and your Mom. Best of luck with the GIMP and your classes. Enjoy the beautiful new baby, a bright spot in your life.

Heidi, I hear ya, summer for us is always so long awaited and so much packed into it. I am on my last wek of vacation and have accomplished alot but now the relaxing stage is starting. School here starts is September so we still have some time to visit with the grandie. A fun town carnival this weekend and today her 9th birthday.

Susan, I can't say I would love 110+ weather either but has been unusually hot here as well with lack of rain. Dog sitting must have been CRAZY! Good luck with home-schooling (I would never had the patience to home-school so give credit to those who are able!).

Now me...Mom has been back to the dr's and all healed form her fall but she still has limited mobility back. She is waiting to get into a day program for physiotherapy but is getting out more which has lifted her spirits. I took her to the tea house yesterday and she so enjoyed it. :) #2 son is off on an adventure to Banff for a week with a job interview in Calagary, hoping he lands that big job!

So very proud that I have scrapped 17 pages during my vacation and this one made the line up for LOTW. If you like it please vote for me here.

Take care everyone and enjoy summer's end wherever you are!

I am definitely on the mend! I am back at work today for the first time and feeling as though I can last the whole day. That is a big plus. Between me and my mum, we have been living at the doctors' offices lately.

I hope you and your daughter are both doing better :)

We used to do Vegas in the summer for daughter's dance competitions, I thought I was going to MELT!

You lead such a busy life. Not sure I could cope with five dogs in the house... Home schooling is a big commitment - all the preparation and the time spent teaching is huge.

Lynnie - I've been gone so I am unsure of what is going on with your health. I will most certainly keep you and your Mama in my prayers.

I was in hospital for two weeks, them mama in hospital for 3 or 4 weeks, I have lost track. Then a long recovery. I went into emergency on 11 June, then was admitted 13 June. This is my first day back at work. I have been pretty fragile. Feeling much better.

Checking in...

Sounds as though you have got it all together :) Glad your mum is doing well and your son enjoys his adventure.

I also had a layout nominated for LOTW, same week. I love your layout much more than mine though :) I think the layout that was nominated was my first layout in GIMP and I thought the colours were a bit muddy.
