Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Home day today for me. I will sitting at home thinking of my husband as he is going for a big stress test on his heart as he failed the smaller stress test when he had his last check up with the specialist. The following angiogram showed the two stents in his heart are still doing their job correctly so the specialist wants to find out the reason he failed the other test. Ken had a massive heart attack ( main artery 99% blocked ) two and half years ago.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Rae, that must be heartbreaking, dealing with traumatic brain injury in a grandchild. All of a sudden, you end up with a new normal you have to deal with. You have my sympathy. How wonderful that you can find things to do and times to treasure together.

Anne-Marie, that must have been difficult, worrying about your husband. Fortunately, my husband is remarkably healthy and has been taking such great care of me, since I became ill in June. Even though I am in much better shape, he still takes care of me. He is doing the grocery shopping right now. I adore him!

I spent today with my son, his wife, my daughter and my mother - all adoring our beautiful little baby Bruce.

Daughter Karen drove a few hours yesterday to surprise my brother at his Saturday gig at a wonderful little bar and grill in Oxnard. It overlooks a bay with boats moored everywhere. She had brought her good friend, Daniel, who has been playing Elvis on a tour of Legends. He had just come off a tour of the Million Dollar Quartet. He is an extraordinarily talented young man. My brother really likes him, so he was so pleased that they showed up. She stayed over and came back today so we could hang out. She is coming over on Wednesday to hang out and craft. We are going to have a great time.

Had a lovely time with Steven and Nessa (son and DIL). I love that girl so much - she takes my breath away every time I see her. I could not love her more if she were my own. I am so lucky he found her. They are a perfect match. Steven has been having computer issues, so we went today and found him an awesome system so he won't be struggling for a while.

We watched a movie together and chatted most of the way through it. It was a thoroughly fabulous day :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Its been a long year with Nan getting sick & then passing a few months later.
My 2 older kids are picking subjects for year 10 & 11 & my eldest is starting to do nursing school as well as year 11. the 3 younger kids aren't doing to well at school & I dont know how to help them but I will get there

Oh my goodness, that is a lot to deal with all at once. No wonder you feel as though life is kicking your butt!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Yep slowly but surely hubby has repaired the bathroom, we are still without a shower while the wall & floor tiles dry & the computer is fixed, haven't replaced the spare fridge yet but hopefully we will find something as these kids eat way too much to store in one fridge & I am tired of shopping daily

That is a lot of expense for you. Glad you had not gone out when the fridge caught on fire. I hope life settles down for you now.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I hope the stress test went ok, if not I hope they find the source of why the first test failed

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Mad Monday here, kids are on holidays & driving me nuts while I try & get work done.
Sent 2 of the boys outside to weed the vegie patch so we can actually put some vegie in there now spring is here.
2 other kids are watching tv & 1 went to a friends house. Have to take them to swimming lessons & gym later in the afternoon so getting as much work done as I can before running around.
Work is quiet, only have 1 job to design for a client but hoping a bit more work comes in after all the things thtbroke down, its getting a bit scary when it goes this quiet, especially as we are saving to take the kids to New Zealand next april too.
Had to dip into the savings to fix all the broken things but we will ge there somehow :)
enjoy your evenings, I'm off to make lunch for the kiddos

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Sam, your crazy life makes mine sound tranquil, and trust me, it is NOT! :)

Sounds as though you have five children, is that right? Two weeding, two watching TV and one out. One of them is looking into nursing classes in her 11th year. It sounds as though you have a lovely family. I had five also - it is a wonderful number.

As for the three youngest, struggling with their homework and what have you, you just do the best you can and hope it all turns out okay. We can lead kids to knowledge, but we can't make them swim in it! I was thirsty for knowledge my whole life and could not drink in enough. I am baffled where my kids came from, those who aren't crazy about learning.

Even today, if I watch a movie based on truth I have to google all the surrounding real facts - along with all the history, etc. When we talk about words, or people or all kinds of other things, google is my friend. When we go places or out on a trip, I have to know all about the towns we go to, the history, the battles, when it was founded.

My kids make fun of me all the time.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning everyone! Whew...I'm tired today. I was out walking for hours on Saturday and then yesterday took my GD to the zoo for her birthday and walked around for over 4 hrs. Today I have desk work (I work at home) and then this afternoon we go to interview a care home for B (me, my daughter and the social worker/care worker). Hopefully it is a good fit for her as its half the driving distance away for us so I can get out to see her more often instead of just on the wkend. Right now she's in a traumatic brain injury care home but its meant to be a rehab facility, not a permanent home, so she has to move from there to a more permanent setting. It's scary b/c she is so vulnerable with her brain deficit but hopefully they are well trained and compassionate people and will take good care of her. We hear horror stories all the time about care homes so it's hard to know when you find a good one. So....any prayers or good thoughts for a safe, happy home for B would be appreciated.

Looking forward to scrapping a bit later today but I'll refrain from it this morning so I can be sure to get all my work done before heading out to the interview this afternoon.

Lynnie - sounds like a wonderful family time this wkend.

Have a great day, everyone! I'd better get to work :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Wish I were home scrapping :) I admire your discipline, Rae. I am here at working, longing to scrap! I am teaching tonight, so I won't get to scrap, scrap. I am excited about tonight's lesson, though.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

@bcgal I hope the petting zoo was fun. I too live with a brain injury. I got mine from lack of oxygen during cardiac arrests. My daughter wrote this for the mighty (hopefully link works) https://themighty.com/2019/08/parent-brain-injury/

@a-m hopefully the first test was just a glitch. I’ve been fortunate with my cardiac issues in never having to take a stress test but watching my kids do numerous ones was stressful

@lynnie & samsscraps five kids would be insane for me

on Friday my son and I went to Edmonton and I went to see Elton John. The concert was fantastic, I enjoyed it so much. I am glad I went, even if it was by myself. So much fun. Saturday my son and I went to the Royal ALberta Museum, it is about a year old now the biggest and best in western Canada apparently. There was a Viking exhibit on, the first time outside of Europe and it was amazing. We had a really good time and came home late Sunday.

I am preparing for some medical tests Thursday and I feel horrible and can’t concentrate on anything. My anxiety is completely through the ceiling and I can’t take my anxiety meds. It’s so complicated with my cardiac condition. Something relatively simple for others is so much more for me. The cardiac unit needs to come in and turn off my implanted defibrillator during the tests, then it needs turned back on. My gi doc has never done these tests with someone with a ICD. If anything is found I’ll get immediate surgery, if not hopefully point me in the direction of future treatment. Woah that’s a lot.

Anyway it snowed in southern alberta on friday and still some on the ground here at home. Weird further north didntvget anything.

Both kids are struggling with school only a month in.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

My Ken is off for more tests tomorrow. His heart in a sense failed the tests done on Monday so now they need to do more. It seems a little crazy as he is fit and well. Does not get out of breathe when he goes for one of his long walks around our little town. Keeps busy with all his woodwork and gardening.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Sherri - thx for sharing that with me, I can understand and relate to all of it. Bailey's TBI has resulted in the same deficits and more, 5 yrs gone, more yrs are sketchy, almost no short term memory, different personality, different preferences. We are all working hard to provide the best care and quality of life for her. For the most part, she is happy which we are so thankful for. I hope all goes well on Thurs with your tests.

Today I'll scrap a few CT pages I need to do, will do a bit of housework and get outside to trim the hedges before the rain comes tonight. I'm waiting for a call-back from the cable company, I ordered a second PVR box a week ago and haven't rec'd it (it's supposed to take 2-3 days), then I'll get Taz out for a walk.

Should be a relaxing day. Hope you all have a good one!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Sherri, your daughters post was very moving. She is extremely eloquent. Please keep us posted on how you are doing - have your daughter post here if you need any extra prayers :) Big hug.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Anne-Marie - thinking of Mr. Ken today :) He will do wonderfully, I am sure!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I’m home, I’m tired, a few biopsies were taken, now we wait and see.

Anne-Marie how did Ken do

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. I'm looking foward to some scrappy time over the wkend. The new care home we interviewed for Bailey seems like a good fit. She meets with them next wk and if all goes well, that will become her home for the foreseeable future. It's only a half hr drive away which is a lot closer than where she is now so I be able to visit more often and take her out, or take her shopping, cook some meals for her, etc. I can't use the kitchen where she is now so that is something we will enjoy doing together if she gets into this new place. We will also be able to bring her back home here for visits. Having her sleep over for Xmas this year will be amazing b/c we haven't had her for 2 yrs. Things are looking good.

I trimmed the bushes/hedges out front yesterday and have sore arms today so hopefully that feels better by tomorrow b/c if the rain stops, I'll take Taz and head out in the early morning for a photo walk along the inlet. But my arms need to recover from holding the big trimmer b/c my camera with the big zoom is quite heavy. If not tomorrow then hopefully Sun morning we'll get out. Should be a fun time here this wkend, looking forward to it.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Thanks, Sherri, for asking the question I was going to ask. :)

I'm looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend with my family. It's homecoming weekend at the high school here, and DD is going with a bunch of friends. We're going to host them all for dinner tomorrow night. What were we thinking, LOL!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Anne-Marie, we are all hoping that Ken did well with his tests. Please let us know when you have time.

Sherri, fingers crossed and hands folded for the results of your biopsies. I am still blown away by the brilliance of your daughter's writing. I have been thinking about it since you posted the link. I thought I had it rough since June when I was in the hospital. I am very impressed by your amazing attitude.

Rae, glad you are getting some scrapping time in and that your granddaughter will be closer.

Ane, sounds as though you have your work cut out for you. I am wondering about the word relaxing followed by hosting a dinner for a bunch of DD's friends :)

I am planning on scrapping this weekend, although I still have to prepare my next GIMP class. I spend the day today sorting fonts of all things. I have a Font program that will load the fonts rather than install them, so the computer is not slowed by the fonts. The problem is that more than once I have loaded up the fonts and tagged them with a font type, then I have had to reinstall a computer and do it all over again. I have thousands of fonts, so it is a big job. I have now taken the time to sort them into folders so I don't have to keep retagging them. It took half of last night and all day today and I still have a bunch of fonts to go through. I got the important ones done. I am so excited, though, it means I can more effectively use the fonts I have.

I have also spent a lot of money on scrapbook kits and graphics the last few days. I had to download and organize them. I have developed a really good workflow with my purchases and downloads so it goes much quicker than it used to. Now I have to deal with DSD and the purchase of even MORE kits - what is this site doing to me. It is totally unfair.

I got some scrapping done the last few days - a few 2019 week pocket pages and a couple of artsy pages. I have all day tomorrow with no obligations, so I will be scrapping.

Sunday I have to clean house. My cousin, Mary, is coming to visit from England. She will be staying for about five weeks and my house is a disaster :) Well, not a disaster, but it does need a good sort out.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies.

Sherri- enjoy the family time. Have a great dinner!

Lynnie - I use Nexus Font Manager, which one do you use? How wonderful to have your cousin coming for a long stay. You'll get lots of time to visit together.

I'm going to do a bit of everything today....scrapping, walking Taz, figure out dinner and get groceries, maybe get out to take a few photos later. My arms are still a bit sore so don't want to overdo it. Tomorrow I want to bring my camera out to B's care home b/c we don't know how soon she'll be moving from there, what the weather will be like the rest of the month, and I want to get some more photos at the ocean while I still can. It's an hour's drive or longer from here so it's not an area I usually drive to so once B moves out of there I probably won't get back out there again.

Later we'll watch some PVR'd shows, lot of new stuff to watch. I'll scrap downstairs in my office for a bit (it's quieter and much bigger faster computer) and then later I'll scrap in the LR and watch shows with hubs (but that computer is small and slow so it takes twice as long to do anything on it). If I get motivated, I might bake a pumpkin loaf later but if not today, then over the few days b/c I'm out of gluten free low carb snacks and need to stock up the freezer again.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Hi Rae, I use Main Type, I have for years. I am a font-o-holic, sadly, and have so many fonts that I need something that shows me what they look like. I browse through fonts the way some folks would wander through a book of beautiful pictures. I do love fonts :)

I have scrapped a bit today - a few more 'weeks' and one of the DSD challenged, plus I shopped. I am pleased with what I got done.

Well, I went shopping early in the morning yesterday, we had run out of milk for tea, which qualifies as a national emergency at our house. I also had a dentist appointment later in the day. I love my dentist - he has been our family dentist for about 30 years, maybe longer. His office is not fancy, his clientele is mostly Vietnamese, I have to drive almost 30 miles to see him, but I never want to change, he is awesome. He had been working on a root canal before I went in the hospital and I did not get all the way through the process. I ended up with a tooth that was bothering me. He fixed it and I feel great now. Other than that, I stayed in my pajamas most of the day. I have some serious concerns about my adoration of pajamas and what this means for my wardrobe when I retire.

Today I have just stayed in my chair and scrapped. I cleaned a little and cooked a little, but I did not feel like doing much, so I did not. I really do have to clean though. I was supposed to go and visit son Steven and DIL Nessa, but Steven is sick. So I don't get to spend time with Baby Bruce today.

Tomorrow, after church, daughter Karen is coming down to help clean for Mary. Mary won't care one way or the other, but it is always a good excuse to disturb the dust bunnies! Besides, our church has this awesome thing we call "The Great Giveway" every year. We collect things we own that are in really good condition and share them with our church neighbours. It is sort of like a rummage sale, but everything is free. The neighbourhood loves it. I need to downsize and Karen is awesome about downsizing. I hardly ever where jewelry and have more jewelry than most jewelry shops. I have issues and my daughter will help me overcome them.

I know Anne-Marie is spending time with grandchildren this weekend, but I hope she comes and lets us know how Ken did with his tests.

Sherri, let us know when you hear something. We surely will say some prayers in church tomorrow for you!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies. Lynnie - that is a great idea for the free rummage sale. Glad you are going to have help cleaning. I need to get some cleaning done tomorrow too.

Sat drinking coffee for a bit, read my book and watched the birds feeding on the porch. One of our flickers has an injured leg so he had to squat down on the railing and peck away at a handful of food I put there for him. He then latched onto the towel wrapped around a porch post and perched there for quite awhile. Hope his leg heals.

We're off in a few hrs to go spend the afternoon with Bailey at the care home. We'll take her out for lunch and go for a walk along the ocean front. We'll be home by dinnertime and will hang out with my hubs and watch some shows. Probably not much if any scrapping today. Got a few pages done yesterday though.

Hope you all are having fun with the DSD activities and sales. Have a great day!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

We got so much done today. The little room on our enclosed balcony is set up and welcoming for Mary. Our little place is shining and polished and gleaming. The beds are all changed and washed, the laundry done, the dusting done. When we were all done, Karen, mum and I put our feet up and watched Maleficent. It was very companionable. We made spaghetti and had an absolutely delightful afternoon and evening. I scrapped a few more 'weeks.'

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Lynnie - sounds like a productive day. I've been working and puttering. I had the cable company here this morning, swapping out a digital box so hopefully now everything will work ok.

I bet everyone is busy with DSD stuff.....hope you are all having fun!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

I had a great weekend! I spent plenty of time with my family and working on layouts for the DSD fun and games. :) I hope you all are doing well!

Speaking of layouts, one of mine was nominated for LOTW! This is a shameless plug to ask y'all to vote for mine (brown wood background, title Welcome to the Patch). HERE is the thread. Thank you!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

The grandchildren are now gone... the house is very quiet! We had a wonderful time.... lots of photos! I will try to use some on challenge pages this month.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Things in my life always seem to overlap, get double booked, or converge at the same place. You know what I mean?

i got a call Wednesday night asking me to move my mom from one long term care room to another. I couldn’t do it that night, or Thursday or Friday. But Saturday alexis, her dad, and I moved mom from her shared room to a private room. She seemed so thrilled. She said it wasn’t even like being in a hospital. That makes me glad. But it really tired me out. She doesn’t have much, but man I was exhausted afterwards.

Rae .... I think if I lived within an hour of the ocean I’d always be there. Living all my life in landlocked alberta has been hard on my ocean loving self. I hope the new card home works out.

Lynnie thank you for the kind words. This is Alexis last published article https://patientworthy.com/2019/10/03/the-rare-among-the-rare-2/ it was rejected by a few places, but she persevered until it got out there. She thinks it’s so important to spread for advocacy.

I voted - it seems as though your shameless plug is working :) That is what friends are for!!

How did Ken do on his tests - last we heard he was going in and we waited with baited breath!

She is a wonderful writer and I have enjoyed reading the things she wrote, although I wish the content meant your lives were easy and everyone was going to get well right away!! It is important to spread information and she does it really well and in a positive and upbeat way. She is very impressive.

WOrking and puttering is always good.

I have not been working on DSD - although I wish I could. I was inspired to do some Project 52 pages. My though is that I will do an artsy page to go along with each one so I have a matching left and right, one Project 52 and one fun and fabulous. I have also given up trying to condense journaling. The top 3 have a lot more journaling than the bottom ones, that was when I decided to heck with it, I am going to make these pages COUNT.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2019} Let's get to know each other!

Good morning, ladies.
Sherri - glad to hear your mom is happy with her room change.
Ane - congrats on the nomination!
Anne-Marie - sounds like a fun wkend with the grandkids. You'll have fun scrapping with the photos.

What a fun wkend, it flew by. We took Bailey out yesterday for lunch, went for a walk along the ocean and just hung out for awhile in her room, working on a jigsaw puzzle with her. Then we popped over to my daughter's place as she was stay home from visiting B yesterday so she could work on the income tax course she is taking. She's an accountant but b/c of all the duties and care for B she can't hold down that kind of job now. She is working part time at Staples which is no stress, easy for her and flexible part time hours but getting the extra certification in taxes would mean she could work during the tax season either independently or in a business like H&R Block part time which might be a good fit for her schedule. Not sure if she is going to finish this now or step away from it until next yr b/c she is struggling with all that needs to be done for B right now so we'll see. I told her to give it a bit of time and think about it. Also reminded her that we will be doing more too to give her extra time she needs. I sure hope B gets moved into the care home closer to us so it'll be easier for me to pop by more often during the wk and help with B's care. Fingers crossed. We should find out soon if B gets the placement.

So, today is desk work, a bit of CT work and I need to meal plan. I want to clean out the freezers and figure out exactly what we have in there and what we need to stock up on.

Hope you all have a great day.
