Fire Rainbow 5-21-26| Journaling: After getting back from a walk with Luna I was thrilled to see this unique horizontal rainbow over our house. I snapped a few photos and then sent them off to my favorite local meteorologist and was happy to find the next morning that he had featured my photo along with others on his Facebook page in an explanation about these FIRE RAINBOWS. From Matt Rudkin: WEATHER GEEK: Some neat pictures of the clouds today! These are high, thin cirrus clouds 20,000+ feet in the sky. At that altitude, temperatures are -50° or colder. Any moisture is frozen in the form of ice. Those ice crystals refract/bend the sun's light passing through them, allowing us to see the full color spectrum! Often times, when you see these, it's an indication of an incoming weather system within the next 24-48hrs. This moisture aloft is blown ahead of the system. Sure enough, we've got some rain in the forecast tomorrow evening!
