This is actually the only Easter Egg Hunt that I remember from when I was a little girl. I think this was in 1948, when I was 2 1/2 years old - much like this photo, although this wasn’t taken on the day of the hunt. Jay would have still been too little for this egg hunt which took place at Camp Carson, Colorado. I remember a huge crowd of big kids who all took off running when the ribbon was cut. As they got further away, I finally began to hunt, too - but all of the eggs I could find were smashed, broken and stomped on, so I didn’t pick them up to put in my basket. Instead, I just wandered around, much like I’m doing in this photo (Mom told me once that I used to do that a lot, looking at stuff, off in my own little world). There was a soldier standing along side of a small shrub, watching the hunt - keeping kids inside the boundaries, I imagine - and as I got closer to him, he kept cocking his head towards the shrub, so I looked to see what I could find there. And there it was - a big Golden Egg! Truly, painted gold and even I knew that a Golden Egg was a prize indeed, so I just quit the hunt and went back to show my parents my prize. Turned out, it was worth $50.00, which was a huge sum back then. Dad’s base pay was not quite $200.00 per month back then, although there were a few allowances which raised it up to about $275.00, I think. I didn’t want to give up my Golden Egg, so they let me keep it - and the $50.00, which didn’t mean much to me, but did to my folks.
I'm impressed that you recall this one, you were so little!! I loved reading your recollection of it, too. The "velum" effect for your journaling on the pink pp works marvelously and your sumptuous clustering is rather incredible.

What a lovely story, and you were so lucky to find a golden egg! I really liked how you did the clustering, and your photo is so sweet.
