After the discussion in the amphitheatre, we were taken on a walk through the extended ruins. It really drove home the point that when one talks about city-states in ancient Greece, Cyprus, and Italy, they really genuinely mean a city with the same functional capacities as modern countries, just on a smaller scale. Smaller being relative, because can you imagine the amount of labour that went into this amount of stonework? Knowing that after a thousand years, some of those stones have absolutely been harvested for other builds, because waste not want not, right?
