Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

Beautiful weather here, cool and crisp, but not cold. It is perfect weather for walking the dog, but sadly, no long walk for Belle today. We had a fire drill at the office the day before yesterday. I used to manage them just fine with no after effects, but since I broke my ankle, I have not done stairs much, except the one flight at home. Two days later, I am still in agony! I think I need to work on those stairs more often!

I am working from home today, since mum has a doc appointment mid-day. I will be working before and after. I actually work from home better, more peaceful and definitely more comfortable. I would much rather work from a recliner in my PJs than a desk all dressed up. Well, not all dressed up really, we have a pretty casual dress code at work, but they prefer no PJs!

I have been so focused on my mum that I have not really done much of anything. I plan to change that this week and start scrapping and writing again. She would love that. I think she knows that I have been too anxious to focus on anything else and she will feel less of a burden when I ignore her a bit, haha. Seriously, though, she is no burden and the time spent with her is very precious.

Other than that, life is going on as always. Lots to do and not enough time to do it.

Oh wow, jealous of your nice weather!! We have been below zero here. I'm trying to help my sister move out of her apartment, and it is going to be mostly done this week, but we have -20 forecast for Wednesday!! Hoping to get most done Monday and Tuesday so we don't have to deal with that...

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

My daughter is home for a few days starting tomorrow. She is working in Mexico for a few months and we miss her! Youngest son is hunting for a house (he and his wife are expecting a baby). So much going on. I have been binge watching Kon Marie on Netflix. I have been folding clothes her way for some time, but nothing else. She is so cute. Binge watching while I have been doing other things. I can't just sit and binge watch.

Phew! I had a really long weekend and I'm glad it's Monday! I got to nap a little today and get a little housework done. But it's about to get really cold here, so I plan to stay warm by hunkering down with my sweaters and some hot herbal tea.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

We are having the coldest windchill temps in 25 years, -50 to -60 tonight. Schools were closed on Monday due to heavy snow......today and tomorrow because of dangerous temps. I've stayed in my jammies & fleece robe in front of the fireplace and also in my sewing room. Trying to finish up one of my many MANY UFOs.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

It's horribly cold here as well. minus cold chills. Just miserable weather.

Mom took a turn for the worse this last week. She no longer knows who I am most of the time and she keeps looking for her parents who died fifty years ago. Its time to put her in a nursing home. I can't take care of her if she doesn't know me. I'm going to look at homes tomorrow. I hope to find something quickly. She needs to get settled somewhere that she will be happy.

I'm trying to scrapbook in the middle of all of this chaos. It is the one thing giving me peace right now.

I'm so sorry Lynn. My mom is heading down that road and I am not looking forward to the day that you have tomorrow. Hugs to you while you work through this. So hard when our parents age.

I'm in north Iowa, and we have -50 to -60 wind chills tomorrow too. Our heater isn't keeping up well, so I have my oven on at the moment so it doesn't get cold in here!! Everyone stay warm tomorrow! I'm planning to work (on the computer) and scrap pretty much all day.

My FIL lived with us for a while and was very confused as to who people were. He thought my mother was the cook and was never quite sure who I was. As he deteriorated he ended up in a home, but it was only after he no longer could feed, bathe and dress himself. I would visit and he would think I was my MIL who had died some years previously. He would talk about escaping. We would always plan to escape at midnight - but after I left he soon forgot.

Eventually conversation became difficult, but I would sit by his bed and sing to him. One day he turned to me and said "Woman, would you stop that catterwaulin'!" I really had my feelings hurt, so I sat next to him, almost in tears. A few minutes later he said in that deep, rich voice that earned him the nickname "The Golden Tenor," "Honey, why don't you sing to me any more?" It was always like that from one minute to the next.

We learned with him that he was way less stressed when we let him think everyone was who he thought they were, or if he did not know who they were. Fortunately, everyone bought into it and we lived a merry fantasy when we were around him. Sometimes we were in train stations, sometimes at a boat place buying the escape boat and I never knew who the children were going to be from one day to the next.

It was hard, but we survived.

And he was my father-in-law - not my mother! If this was my mother I might have a whole different take on it. I am caring for my mother right now and it is a lot of work, but she is sharp as a pin.

I'm so sorry Lynn. My mom is heading down that road and I am not looking forward to the day that you have tomorrow. Hugs to you while you work through this. So hard when our parents age.

The physical and the mental... It is an adjustment to move from the child role to the role of parenting your mother or father.

I always think cold weather is a great time to bake! If the oven if on you might as well get some good use out of it :) I'd like a cake please.

I went to see the Wizard of Oz at the movie theatre last night. It was one of the "Fathom Events!" It is the 80th anniversary and it was just as wonderful as when I was a child and the kids were children. It is a classic. Seeing it on the big screen is such a treat.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

Lynn sending prayers for your mother, I understand how hard it is, I hope you find a nice comfortable place for her... HUGS

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

I love the Wizzard of Oz... sounds like a great time....

It is so cold here, my body cringes every time the puppies say they need to go out, if the wind would quiet down it wouldn't be so bad, my bones are paying the price.... Ready for a warm up the sooner the better... Stay warm and dry everyone...

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

I have been seeing on the news about the extreme cold being experienced in the northern hemisphere, temps that I just cannot imagine. Here in Australia it is the opposite of course, we have had weeks of temps in high 30s and mid 40s (centigrade that is). Today will complete the hottest January on record for us.

I love this layout - I read an article that the hot and cold are having a fight, which is causing the extremes. In my part of California, our weather is changeable, but not extreme. We are likely to have temperatures in the 50s and 60s one day and in the 80s the next day. Bright sunshine one day, heavy rain the next. We don't know if we are coming and going, but we can do so in a light jacket with an umbrella.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

Yes, this weather is nutty!! Last week on Wednesday, the "feels like" temp was -60 in my town which was the record coldest for our state on that day. It hasn't been this freezing since 1996, when I was a sophmore in high school! I really, really want to move out of Iowa at some point. As I get older, the less I feel like I can tolerate the cold, especially with all the driving the kids around. If I could stay inside all the time, I might be able to handle it...

We are finally back up to the 50 and 60s here after that freeze for a few days... unbelievable how it changes so much over night... but it sure is muddy out there and the puppies love playing in it... they will be getting a lot of baths during this kind of weather... LOL glad they don't mind the tub time.... LOL but after all the snow and rain I hope it dries some over the next few days...
Well I hope to get a couple challenges posted today so heading out of here... You all have a great day! :hi

I smell like puppies. I have puppy hair all over me. I'm tired. LOL

I'm just saying - when you reach a point that you would torture yourself with not one but TWO puppies JUST because they make cute layouts with that lovely young daughter you have.....

You get my insanity award for the week haha!

I get cold at +60! I want to offer you a place with me in California just because I am shivering thinking about it.

I can't imagine dealing with pets in the rain, snow and mud either. Belle looks at the rain and refuses to go out haha. We have to take her for a walk to piddle and she demands an umbrella.

At my old site, before it closed and I fell in love with GS, we used to have laptop crops where we flew in from all over the world. I made lots of new friends that way. We are having a small reunion crop in August and I am SO excited to see people. Probably not too many people from all over the world, but a few locals and one or two from other states. We are planning a bigger one next year so people have the time to schedule themselves.

Yep, I'm insane!! :)

HOWEVER, Susan, by patience, persistance and a lot of hunting (by that I mean clicking on your gallery icon), I found this!

Ah I'm always jealous of scrappers who get to meet up and do scrapbooking events!! I need to find my Iowa scrappers who want to do this!! I'd love to go out of state too, but that probably won't happen till the kids are older!

It is so much fun to get together. We always do a photo walk, we Skype with some of the designers, have some lessons, a group chat and contests (most layouts, etc.). I put out some feelers for a GS one last year, but didn't get too many bites. I would love to host one and they are SO much fun. Before DSP closed, we would have ones that had over 100 people coming. They were organized/sponsored by management. They were not that expensive (whatever the actual cost was!) and it really created a bond between scrappers. The annual one was usually in California, but we had smaller ones all over the place. I attended one or two in New Zealand. We had them in Australia, too. I don't remember if we had them in South Africa and England, but I kinda think we did. I know we had smaller ones in California, Chicago and a few other places.

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

What a day I had yesterday!
  • Karen needed to be dropped at the airport (an hour away). I had to pick her up and get her to the airport by 5:55am.
  • I had WW at 8am
  • Following WW, I had a chiropractor appointment
  • Then I went to the community center to pay for a room for a digital scrap reunion
  • Then I had a bone density test
  • Then I had a mammogram
  • Then I went to Costco to pick up a sign for my Scrapbook club
  • Grocery shopping for the week - we were out of almost everything
  • After that, I went home to take care of my mother and to make dinner
  • Then at 6pm I went to my book club meeting.

I need a holiday to rest from my hobbies!

Today
  • Got up, made eggs in my instant pot
  • Made veggie soup in instant pot and added leftover pot roast
  • Made breakfast for my my mother
  • Now I am at my Village Memory Makers scrapbooking club.

Whew - what are YOU doing this weekend?

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

Wow, Lynnie, I am always impressed by how much you get done!

Today I wokw up kinda late, but DD got up an hour later. An hour after that, she wanted help putting in her contacts. She just got contacts and is still learning how to put them in and take them out. It's rough- I remember those days. We spent an hour doing that only to find out a little while later that her right one ripped, ugh!

After that saga, I took a shower and we went shopping at Sam's then across the street for frozen yogurt. When we came out, one of her favorite songs was playing on the outside speakers. So we stood there eating our froyo in 32-degree weather. A very chilling experience, I must say.

Tomorrow we'll be battling freezing rain. Hopefully we'll get to go to church. :)

Wow! You've had a crazy busy weekend so far!

I had grand plans for getting lots done this weekend, but so far I haven't succeeded. This morning I slept in because I didn't sleep well last night, and then cleaned a bit and checked the forums before taking my daughter to work. Then I scrapped 2 pages while she was at work before going back to pick her up. Then back home to get the kids ready to head to their dad's (50 minutes away). I just got back about a half hour ago. I got a headache while driving, so I'm not feeling so up to anything super productive tonight, but I really don't want to leave it all for tomorrow! I've got lots of cleaning and organizing to do, and most importantly I have to get our homeschool plans for next week finished up. Plus of course more scrapping haha!!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

I worked hard on Friday, then wimped out the rest of the weekend. On Saturday, after the Village Memory Makers (scrapbooking) club, I went home, took my mother to get a cool purple walker, then we watched a little television together and I cooked hamburgers in my instant pot.

Sunday I overslept for church (dang, I hate missing church), cleaned a bit, then my niece came over and we had a Dr. Who marathon. After she left we watched a bit of the Grammy's. Sadly, I think I don't enjoy the music the way I did when I knew the artists. These days I don't recognize many people, I don't like the music that much (with some exceptions) and there is nothing much to excite me. We turned it off after one-to-many rap songs. We went to Youtube and watched videos on green screen production. I am pretty excited about working on some music videos for my husband. I have all the equipment, I have just never done green screen production before. I think I might do some photography as well - how much fun would that be!

It was late when I went to bed, though, and now I am at work (taking a little break) and I am tired.... and cranky :)

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

Exciting year for me...

Steven and Nessa (youngest and his wife) have bought their first home and are moving in shortly
Their baby is due in August
James and Hannah (middle child and his wife) are expecting their second in April in England. I am going to visit.
My best friend and her husband are reviewing their vows IN HAWAII - I am going. I was in her wedding 40 years ago.
A really good friend is getting married in Paris on December 29th - I am going to that also (yes, Paris, France!)

Two babies - three big trips... I hope I have time to scrap!

Re: Thread: Everyday Chatting & Waffling - JANUARY 2019 - Let's get to know each othe

Wow, good for you Lynnie! I wish we could take a big trip sometimes, but we have work to do on our house. Our full master bath has been reduced to a 1/2 bath for almost a year (no shower, no toilet). Sigh. But we are going to New Orleans in May for our nephew's graduation. It'll be a quick trip though- not much time for fun. Hubby gets to do some more exciting things but I need to be home this summer to get DD to and from band practices. Sigh.

You have a great year!
