WHO DOES....

..or has done CT work for designers at this site and/or otherwise?

I haven't ever applied for or taken on a CT commitment in all my years of digiscrapping. I think I would find it very stressful to have a deadline to work to. What if I didn't feel like scrapping that week? Or wasn't keen on the kit or colours? Or didn't have any suitable photos? (or, in my case, just didn't think I would be good enough:(...Note: definitely not fishing for validation here:))
There seems to be a lot of CT people here at GS...perhaps the question should be Who DOESNT do CT work )

Tell me your thoughts, feelings and routines.

I only have one CT gig. I love it! I applied elsewhere, but haven't had any luck. I hope to at least guest for others in the future, but for now I feel very fortunate to have my one CT spot with a great designer and CT team. :)

I am a little surprised at those with both designer and store CT positions - that seems like a lot! But I guess it works for them!

As for not being keen on a kit or colours, maybe I'm just easy-going, but I've never had a problem finding suitable photos or ideas for any given kit. Sometimes it even helps me expand my creativity!

Well.... I think I've done it all!!! Not much of an apply-er [I created that word]... but I LOVE LOVE LOVE to digi - scrap, and promote the industry as I can. I've worn many hats over the years [since right click was invented].

I LOVE it....

Jill - in my opinion [and I always have one], I think you should apply. Your pages are wonderful. They are real and heartfelt.

Each designer is a bit different. Some are ok if it is their kit and someone else's template & vice versa. Some...only their product. I respect the requests.

Not all pump out a ton of stuff each week or my hair would be grayer than it is and I watch 2 grandchildren!

I really really really love the site CT, as it has more latitude of product. If it doesn't work for you, do not DL.

Many designers are the same way. If you DL it...create and promote it. ♥

I design for the GS store and for Seatrout Scraps. I also CT for other designers not at GS. I only have 4 teams but it keeps me busy!

I say GO FOR IT. The only team I have applied for truly is GS. The others, I was asked to join or approached a designer I loved and asked if she was looking for any CT. I think you would do well!

Different designers have different requirements. Some want 2 layouts per month, some want 4. Most ask for one a week (so four) so it's not that difficult to keep up. Designers are VERY, VERY understanding about personal issues. Most of mine are "Family first" so if I have an issue, it's ok. I think the only thing they frown upon (and with good reason) is those that take the kit and then don't use it. That's a HUGE disrespectful thing to do to your designer and yes, it does happen.

If you are willing to be reliable and responsible, any designer would be happy to have you!! :)

I agree - go for it! Although I don't think I would ever be brave enough to approach a designer, even if I love their designs!

Thanks for the support ladies...I am not actually looking to take on a CT spot though. I started the thread to initiate a bit of discussion (and I am a stickybeak:D...for those who are not familiar with that term, it means "want to know everything..poking nose into other people's business" *eek*)

I giggle as had not heard the term "stickybeak" before.

I love being on CT's. I find them super motivating. It's like a constant stream of inspiration really. I've hit my maximum capacity for CT work, but I'm always tempted when I see a call from a designer I love. I've been on CT's for most of the time I've been scrapping so it's hard to think of a time when I wasn't scrapping under some sort of deadline. But that is really motivating for me to make pages. Working for a variety of designers with different styles helps keep things fresh and interesting. I also work for two teams that are more story and process based (i.e. not kit designers) They can be challenging, but very rewarding because I'm often telling deeper stories with those projects.

To answer your questions, for me having deadlines is motivating. I totally see how that's not the case for everybody, but it's something I've gotten used to. I've worked out systems to help me know what is due when etc. Some teams work way ahead, sometimes months ahead, so those are easy to plan for. But sometimes you have a designer who needs something by the next day. That can be stressful, but some people work better under pressure. In digi there is a pretty quick turnaround. Like Michelle said, you only download what you want to and have time to work with.

If I really don't feel like scrapping one week, like I'm sick or something, then I don't. If I don't feel like scrapping from lack of motivation, I generally try to push through and see what happens. Sometimes you just need a break though and most designers are understanding. They're not drill sergeants :)

If I don't like kit colors... well that one I have a lot to say on actually. Kit designing is cyclical. You know that certain times of year you're going to have seasonal or themed kits to work with. I have a reeeaaalllyyy hard time in Spring because there is not a lot of pastel and Easter eggs in my everyday life, lol. So a lot of times I'll take the more neutral papers and allies from a kit and make a page that's off-theme. Or I'll take a school kit and scrap about my own childhood. Fall and Winter kits can be problematic because I like in a tropical climate. So whenever I go anywhere with pretty fall colors I hoard them like a crazy person until the Fall kits roll around again so I'll have something to scrap. I also use *ironic snowflakes* on beach LO's sometimes. My family sends me pictures whenever they get snow, so I'll scrap those too. I have been known to tell my husband we need to vacation somewhere cold so I'll have something to scrap. (See how hard I work for my CT's? LOL) I know this is WAY too much information probably, but you asked :)

As far as not feeling like you're good enough, we have all felt that way. I'm quite sure I've put some real clunkers out there in the world that probably made the kit designers shake their heads wondering what was she thinking? It happens to everybody. I think a certain amount of self-doubt is pretty common in anyone pursuing creative endeavors.

I think if you wanted to join a CT you totally could! Every designer is looking for something different, so I'm sure you could find one that's a good fit for you. But if you're fine just doing your own thing, that's great too. It's not everybody's thing.

Edit: This is why I love being on CT's.

I have been CTing for a very long time. I kinda like the deadlines because for me I would probably not do it other wise! I am kinda lazy like that. My Dream Team has always been KCB at Sweetshoppe but after applying a few times and being turned down I quit trying.

My first CT gig was with Penny Springmann and I stayed with her for 4 or 5 years and finally I told her I needed a break and I did!

Then Rachel aka Seatrout Scraps grabbed me up when she first was starting as a Template Designer and I said yes of course.

Then LJS Designs who I have encouraged to start designing from the very beginning.

Then Mandy King asked Rachel about me and wondered if I would be interested in CTing for her as well, I said yes especially since those two are always creating together so I already knew her style.

Now I am here and loving it and CTing for the store plus my most recent team with Dear Friends Designs. I think for me it's good to have a balance between Template Teams and Kit teams otherwise I get over loaded.

I can't scrap anymore without a template I've tried and it just never looks as good so I am totally fine using them now (though I didn't used to think it was ok.) Anyway go for it if you want too. Or even just try out for a month guest spot to see if it's something you are into. That way there is no long commitment if you hate it, I don't think you will. Oh and I think your layouts are fantastic and just know we are always our own worst critics! Hugs and good luck!!! :D

I have been on CT's, but spent most of my scrapping time NOT on CTs. When I first started in Digi, I was on a few teams: Ronna Penner, Mo Jackson, Shabby Miss Jenn (I still sub for her when she needs a page in a pinch), Kathryn Balint, and a sweet lady named Agnes L. that I don't remember her last name now.

I left the scrapping world for a while and then tried to come back in 2010, then disappeared again. I finally came back in 2013 and parked myself right here at GS. I joined the "Lost at Sea" Survivor last summer and actually got to the last group!! Because of that, I was offered a Guest CT position for one month here as a site CT member. That was AWESOME - and if they would have me, I would come back in a heartbeat! It's the Cadillac Gig!!! :)

Through Survivor, I met many wonderful scrappers and designers, and was asked to be on Seatrout Scraps team, then I applied for and was accepted to Created By Jill's team. Mandy King followed, and then I was asked on to Dagi's Temptation's CT.

I LOVE being on a CT. Like previous posters have said, the deadlines actually motivate me to scrap. I can get very lazy and not scrap my memories - but when I have a beautiful new kit staring me in the face in need of some advertisin, I wake up. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that I am a better scrapper for the challenges being on a CT bring. The designers, the comraderie, and the need to fulfill the promise you make to someone to advertise their products are some of hte reasons I love being on a team. Oh, and the free product isn't bad either! ;)

Hey ladies, thanks for the great replies!!

hclappy, NEVER too much information! Like Trace above, I really enjoy a busy forum and posted this thread to get a discussion going. I love it when people take the time to reply.

Snow kits are hard for me because we don't usually get snow here in Seattle. So I usually have to go WAY back into my old photos from when we lived in utah or steal my sis in laws pictures to scrap with. But that's ok I still love working with those winter kits and always wish I had snow! I miss snow!

I've been CT'ing since 2007 when I was approached by a designer. Things took off from there and I was recruited by a few stores. I have had to scale back because life and schedules don't always work but thankfully I have managed to mostly stay active here at GS for several years now. Colors are tricky but it does push me out of my box a bit and makes me get creative. I have thousands of photos and at the end of the day, my goal is simply to create beautiful memories for my family. I try to sift through my photos often enough that I have a good idea of color schemes so when I see a kit come up each week, I can try my best to make it look good. Only rarely do I not have a photo to work with. If that's the case then I can make a great journaling page. Designers various styles can be difficult as well, but then again, it forces me to get outside of my comfort zone once in a while.

Thankfully most teams are flexible enough to accommodate the weeks you feel like scrapping your heart out vs. the weeks you can't even open your computer. The Site team here is also flexible when life sneaks up and you just can't make a deadline. Obviously these have to managed as best as possible but real life does happen and I think everyone is aware that it does.

Personally I know my limits are to be on just this one team here. I Love the variety of all the designers as they are all top-notch. Someday I might expand and get on to more teams but for now, I just enjoy being on this one. Ocassionally I will appear as a guest for a designer for a month. Those are always fun too.

If I were you, I would apply to be a guest designer just to see if you like doing it. Can't hurt to give it a shot.

I also love being a CT although a lot of the CT work I do is Pinterest or other activities that allow me access to the goodies without the stress of layout deadlines. But I have worked to develop the best mix of responsibilities for my availability
