Doing good here @Lynnie tired from my vacation, and getting ready to head out of town again by Friday, this time going to visit the grands and my son. Looks like everyone is busy this summer. But I will pop in now and then. I will try and get a couple challenges done before I leave. Taking my laptop so will be using it from time to time while I'm gone. My daughter is also here for a visit and going with me to spend time with her brother, his wife, niece and 2 nephews. I will be ready to stay home and rest up after this trip... LOL But I am thrilled to see everyone, it just wears this old lady out!
Hope you all have an amazing rest of the week. Will stop in again soon!

@FormbyGirl Lynnie, I'm so far behind in my scrapping, and it's not looking like I'll have much time in the next couple of months to get caught up. I still have our vacation from last fall to do, a Disney trip from this spring, and the rest of the days from youth tour. Egads.
What exactly do you do for a living? I have followed your posts and I know it involves high school and college youth and lots of conferences and trips. :)

I spent the last couple of days helping to ferry around youth to different places in the KC area. It was for a church activity the youth do every summer. But I'm back home now and wiped out. Phew! The worst part was the heavy traffic plus heavy rain we encountered as we neared St. Louis. But at least we didn't have to water the garden when we got home! Hubby has the rest of the week off and I need to start my newest class, the History of Religion. It's an elective and not in the humanities department, so I may flounder in this one. I'd like to keep my 4.0 but we'll see. After this class, I will be halfway done with my degree.

I haven't done much scrapping either (hoping to change that). Last month was just so busy with projects for class and just life. Crazy! I think I'm busier now than when I had all 3 kids at home! :)

Of all things, I work for a statewide association for not-for-profit electric utilities (cooperatives). My duties change seasonally, but I'm mostly responsible for event planning, director education, employee education, and youth development programs. I'm third generation in my family to work for the electric co-ops. My grandfather was a director in Nebraska, my father was a statewide manager in South Dakota, and I now work in Kansas. I keep pushing my daughter to apply for co-op jobs, as well, since they have good pay and benefits. It's a lot of work and some weeks I work crazy, crazy hours. But it's rewarding and I love providing needed services to our members. I've been part of the Kansas electric cooperatives since 1998, and I'm realizing that I'm becoming the "most senior" employee on most of my committees and subgroups! When the heck did that happen?!

How wonderful! You do seem to love your work!! What an interesting job.

Do youbstill have to deal with the person who makes mistakes and tries to blame you?
Unfortunately, yes. And she has continued to show poor teamwork and poor communication. Last week, she was to have provided the cash that I need for our camp. She's had the request for over a month, and knew what date I needed the funds. Instead, she was conveniently absent and so I had to come find her this week and pointed out that I had clearly communicated the deadline. Her comment was that she met the deadline (meaning the cash was in the building). So apparently, I need to become telepathic to know when and if she's completed her tasks, and then I need to go to her every day to see if she has what I requested. It's turned into a power play for her... and I simply don't have the time or patience for games at work. We are the exact same age, but she prioritizes her looks (long blond hair, certain "enhancements", low cut tops, high heels in a office that mostly wears jeans and sneakers unless we have meetings to attend).... you get the picture. She's besties with our admin assistant (they've worked together off an on since right out of high school). So hubby calls them "the mean girls club," and he's not wrong. LOL! So I do my job and leave them their space and TRY to not get sucked in to the BS and drama. I did have a compliment from our newest employee... he needs to have a very high level of security to be a part of some governmental committees, and he had to go through an extensive background check. He told me that he needed to provide one coworker to help him complete his background check and he gave them my name as I seemed to be the most professional and even-keeled employee here. I will take that compliment and do my best to live up to it.

I leave for camp in 22 hours... so time for me to finalize all those details! Talk to you later!

That's quite a compliment, Shana! I'd take that and run with it! The mean girls will get theirs at some point. They always do. Karma's a mean'ole B*tch too and you never quite know when she's gonna strike. I just wish that I could be around to see it happen. Most of the time, I'm quietly working in the background and don't get to see the fireworks. Good luck to you. Just keep strokin', my friend! <3

Hello Ladies...
Got 3 challenges done so far. Getting ready to head out of town again tomorrow. I will be taking my laptop, so will pop in when I can. But I will be with my 3 youngest grands, 2 grand-dogs, and 1 grand cat. So it will be a busy week. My daughter is visiting and will be there too. My daughter & I will be watching the grands for the weekend while my 2 sons and there better halves, have a weekend get-a-way. And then during the week we will have a lot of game nights. Looking forward to that, I love playing cards and board games with the younger ones. I think my grandkids whole the world record of knowing how to play the most games. We are always adding new games, this week we are adding "Swoop" card game... the kids will love it I'm sure. And my 8 year old grandson love playing Euchre, and requested that we play that this week...LOL So looking forward to a fun week with them all. I plan to try and get 1 or 2 more challenges done tonight. The rest will have to wait until I return home. Hope your all doing well and have a wonderful week!

Have a lovely time, Alta!

I am home after a few days babysitting. My days babysitting are changing. Previously, I babysat on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and some Saturdays. The Saturdays have been more infrequent lately, since the other Nana has been spoiling them :). Nessa now has to work five days a week instead of four, so I have to add Wednesday, but I will be doing fewer Mondays. Mondays, I would go over so Steven could get caught up on house chores and errands (like shopping, the DMV, etc). Steven will consolidate those to once a month and will have fun with his kids the rest of the month. I think it works out a little bit more time, but not too bad. On Wednesdays, I have to be there extra early because Steven has to leave for the train station by 5.

I am feeling so lazy today. I just want to put my feet up and do nothing. I am still in my pajamas and it is 2:45 in the afternoon. Rand is making food. He cooked breakfast as well, which is lovely. I need a day like today.

I spend the morning scrapping and creating a video. It was pretty short, about 4-5 minutes, I think. It is for our program at the Daughters of the British Empire on Tuesday. I love it when someone has an interesting life. Glynis was a nurse in the British Army and has been deployed all over. The video is here if you want to take a peek at what I do with my scrapped slides.

What are you all up to this weekend?

What am I up to this weekend? Agonizing over my homework, lol. I had to make a "substantial" reply to a question the professor asked about the readings and make an introduction post. Fortunately I got done in time and was able to see everyone else's posts (I could not see them before, which is backwards of what I'm used to). This morning we went blackberry picking at a local farm and got enough for a couple batches of jam. Then we went shopping. We got home after 2, which is late for us. I spent a couple hours catching up on my post-reading on the class forums (this class has 11 students, which is more than I'm used to). After that, I declared myself done with homework for the day and turned on my desktop for relaxation time. And that is probably what I'll be doing until bedtime. :) Tomorrow is just church. Maybe I'll nap too.

I have created templates that I use for different events, the white one you see has about 120 premade slides. Typically, I take the pictures and sort them first. Then I drag them to each slide in order, tweak them and save them as a tiff and a Jpg. For Glynis, I added the military elements over the clusters I had already created. I also added a few red flowers. Each slide takes 5-10 min to create. When I am doing huge events and have 5-600 pics, I typically spent less time tweaking and do most of the slides in a minute or two. This is a much longer one for my 70th and you can see it is far less tweaked.

Lynnie, I just watched your Glynis video! It was wonderful--no wonder people want you to create one for them! :)

I think I have figured out how my new class is going to work. It's a lot more work than previous classes, probably because it is a history class, not a humanities one. Ironically enough, my first assignment is a presentation on one of the religions we don't specifically study in class. It's supposed to have vocal narration, and I am not excited about that part. Last week we studied native African religions. This week is Hinduism.

But I'm not thinking much about that yet. This weekend we're going to Ohio, specifically for Lena's 5th birthday party. Seeing how tall she is now, you'd never guess that she was a preemie! I'm going to soak up all the grandkid-ness until their bedtime; that's when I'll do my schoolwork.

Between now and Friday I don't have much going on. Just my volunteer work tomorrow morning and a little shopping for the trip.

I remember visiting India and being dropped off at a Hindu temple in heels, stockings, and a business suit. Of course, in the temple, you cannot wear shoes, and I could not exactly remove my stockings, and the floor was marble. They had some sort of guest for a religious ceremony..... so, I am the only non-Indian in the building, slipping and sliding all over the floor, hiding behind poles, and listening to a lengthy ceremony that involved food of some kind. I was offered things by the lovely people there and, of course, I ate, hoping I would not get an upset tummy. It was a unique experience, and one I will never forget. The Hindu temples and people are beautiful.

On the way home from this visit, I was asked to bring a copy of the Bhagavad Gita for one of the people in my office. (I worked for an Indian company.) The book was large and very heavy, and I had to bring it on board in my carry-on. I also had a sitar and a lot of company papers. The person behind the desk at the airport said that my carry-on was too heavy. I regretfully said I would have to leave the copy of the Bhagavad Gita. They hesitated and said 'no no no no no.... it is fine, you may take it all on board."

I was fortunate enough to visit India four or five times during the years I worked for Envision. They were some of the most magical experiences of my life.

So.... Ane, when you study the Hindu religion, study the people also. When you study a faith and you investigate the tenets of that faith, then you speak with a person of that faith, it brings a whole new perspective. It did for me, anyway.

Jill just did a fabulous page on yarn bombing, and it made me think of the yarn bombing in the village where I was raised. They do it every year and it is amazing. Here is a link to just 20 pictures of the over the 100 different creations:
They actually made it to the BBC, but not that many pictures:
Here are a few pictures of 2024

WOW @Lynnie loved your video... And I had never heard of "Yarn Bombing" they are so neat... I loved the car cover on the first one, and the beehive on the second one. What a creative idea. Thank you for sharing.

I am still in Ohio, having a wonderful fun filled time with the kids & the grands. Will need a couple weeks to rest when I get back home, but loving the time with family. Not having a chance to work on challenges, but will catch up when I get back home. We are going on a hike in a couple days looking forward to that and plan to take lots of pics. My grandsons B-day party is Saturday... We will be swimming, playing corn hole, the kids will have a slip & slide, and more games. Lot of food, but I will be sticking to my new way of eating & stay on track, I want to get to my goal weight by my B-Day in Sept. Well I need to get off of here the grandsons want to play a card game. You all have a beautiful week, I will pop in again soon!

WOW! what tributes Lynnie and I LOVE the video.

Update on me- I had a neuro appointment on Monday with the Nurse Practitioner. However, she came in with the Dr. [surgeon]. I was a bit surprised as at this practice one "does not just get an appointment with one of the doctors"....
So- Cliff notes- she showed him the MRI's of my cervical spine. ( over 1,000 images)... No wonder it took so long for someone to come into the room.
Apparently, neither was impressed.
Surgery will be scheduled [whenever they decide]. There is a reason for the numbness, headaches and loss of balance. ...
I do have a 'new' friend. "Balancing Betty" is her name. My cane.

On a super happy note. Sarah's dance book 2 arrived and she is over the top!. It printed great. Thank you Shutterfly.

It is a worldwide thing. @Jill did an awesome page on it.
I have several more LOs to do Lynnie, thanks for the info on your experiences, those pics are amazing. Isnt it marvellous to see such creativity shine publicly. Sad that these knitting and crocheted skills are sadly dying out in the young of today except on rare occasions (@msbrad michi is doing a sterling job of passing on handcraft skills to her very talented gdaughter). Yarn bombing is a reasonably new concept for me, we did it once before in our town, I think for breast cancer awareness, but on a much smaller scale to the event I am scrapping right now. I stitched a crocheted square to a light pole at this event :D
