We stayed home due to the weather too, but Freddy had been out earlier and grabbed a prime rib! (of all things, gawd I love that man) So we ate well for Valentine's Day and the rest of the weekend. Been ugly-cold here and headed colder this week. Geez, I wish I didn't have to go out to work. At least I don't until Tuesday.
Be safe if you do.

Love and Blessings

Happy Sunday to all. Yikes to all with the rough weather we saw on the news.

We had beautiful weather last week and that is ending today. Super windy at present...the rain is coming along with another cold front.
Really bummed that JoAnn's is closing 500 stores and all of them in Florida. I really depended on fabric and yarn.

It's so sad Michelle. We're losing 7 in MN including several that I shopped at. One right down the road and two that we frequented when we were on retreat! And a good retreat friend said that she went into hers the other day; she goes in almost weekly, and NONE of the staff were the same, NONE of the sales were honored, NONE of her coupons were honored and they OVERcharged her daughter terribly. She actually took one of the associates, "almost by the ear" back to the shelf to show her each sale tag to get Syrena her money back! I'm guessing that they're either bringing in corporate employees or flipping employees from other stores and trying to see what they can get away with while they're closing the stores. It's a HORRIBLE, but common practice when companies are going out of business. grrrrrr......

The closing of stores is such a sad thing. We are losing our JC Penny's store and the staff are clearly depressed and barely holding together. But like Carla said, no sales are being honored at this store, either. And the few things I found I wanted to buy were actually cheaper online. This store was one of the anchor stores in our shopping mall. Two others are already closed (Sears and Burlington), so that just leaves Dillards. There are maybe a handful of other stores still open and most of those are little pop up boutique type shops. Not sure how long those will last.

ALTA!!!! How lovely to see you here and chatting :) I love your pages about Letitia. She is such a love.

As for collections - keep an eye on the sales. I recently picked up a bunch of collections from Alexis Design Studio for $5! I bought every one I didn't have :)

Many months I start off well on my challenges, then get distracted. I have managed to do a few months here and there, but I am not consistent. I think I have done January and February, so a good start to the year. I am the same about Project 52. I get everything organized for the whole year, then manage January and February and a few odd months the rest of the year. So crazy. I would love to manage it every year.

Sad about all the stores going out of business. I was never wild about Joanne's. I had a much better place for Fabric, a local shop called Jenny's. I had been going there since the early 80s at least and a year ago, they closed or merged with another fabric store about a 45-minute drive away. I haven't been there yet, but I am quite cross about it. We will probably try there for my daughter's wedding dress fabric.

Yes it is sad that all the stores are closing. The last time I went to the mall it was so gloomy and not many people, and it makes it less safe to go alone. I use to love going to mall just to look and get some walking in... I miss those days. So many are doing everything online. It's a big change that I am not fond of but the younger generations are loving.

So cold here this week so looking forward to warmer weather. So working on layouts for CTs and hope to get a couple challenges done soon. Hope you all have a wonderful week... :kisses

Now that you ladies mention it, I have noticed that there are barely any employees at my local Joann's. It's sad that so many store are closing. I like shopping online, but sometimes you have to try things on, you know? And online returns are a pain. I've noticed our mall is slowly dying too, and that does make it less safe. There have been a couple of shootings at ours (I don't know how recent) but I am reluctant to go over there.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! :)

Quickly stopping by to say hello as I have a busy morning that has already had a few bumps
Supposed to be hosting a guessing jar comp at school this morning but woke to find Harm has another migraine (had to get him from school yesterday) & heard a baby Curlew calling out as well. Turns out he had fallen in the pool again & his family were calling to him. Luckily he had learnt from his near drowning last week & was paddling around waiting for some assistance. I dried him off named him Colin & set him free with his family. Hopefully, I will just see him/her roaming around the pool not in it next time!

Had a bit of trouble with uploading my layouts yesterday - store seemed to be down for a while but I think it was a connection issue from Oz to US as my boys were having a similar trouble trying to connect to their US game servers. Gave me time to prep the rest of the stuff for the guessing jars though. Huge thank you to everyone that commented on last weeks layouts. I appreciate it.

Better go eat & get to school, going to be a long day with Harm home. Have to make another appointment for Dr as the migraines are getting bad again & it seems to flare up his asthma.

Think its going to be a funny week as Monday started with a nasty email from a client demanding a refund & stating our work was terrible etc. Hubby went to remove the board as her request. Turns out it had come down in the storm & the lady was trying to scam us for money as the board had been up for 30 days & only fallen in the storm 2 days ago which sometimes happens. Been making & installing signs for most of my life & this was a new drama we hadn't had before but got it sorted

Hope everyone is doing well, will read back through once I get back on later tonight

pick of Colin

Interesting, and distressing, to read about store closures upover. Coincidentally just this month, I made a LO about the exact same thing happening here. It is a worry.

I did a photoshoot at a mall yesterday. (Side note, I forgot how much I've missed being a photographer). So many stores were closed, but it was still a very busy place, so who knows!

Sam, I <3 Colin!! Glad he had some help!

So true about the malls! Our Burnsville Center mall was the biggest in the area before MOA was built and now it's a ghost town. Our Macy's is closing and I can't even believe that Nordstrom Rack is considering going in there! There is zero traffic in the mall. There are no other anchor stores. It was huge when I was growing up. I got my first real job, and my first real credit card, at Dayton's. (which was rebranded to Marshall Field's in the 90's and ultimately bought out by Macy's in 2005) Quite a history and I still have that credit card, which is now a Target card; says customer since 1977. Burnsville Center opened on 7-7-77. Sorry... TMI, but I always thought that was cool and now it's just really sad.

Sam, I had to go look up what a Curlew was. How cool. You're such a good pool-mom.

Robyn, I miss that you've missed being a photographer! lol

Love and Blessings!

Hi everyone, having a sleepless night so thought I’d see if I could get on or not. I haven’t been able too.

karen sent me the greatest birthday card for me thank you.

‘’as to the postal strike I received carla and Lynnie Christmas cards late January early February, thank you.

‘’Alexis is flying to Toronto Thursday for a high mucky muck lol conference, so proud of her. But the winter travelling scars the crud out of me.

Hello All,

I hope the postal service gets back to normal soon. I am thankful we have a good size plaza here in town that has a lot of stores and they keep adding more. But you have to go outside to go to each store. So I do some of my walking there now. But when weather is bad I can't. Better than nothing. And it is close to my son so I go over that way often. I also agree with Ane some things you need to try on before you buy & returns online can be a big pain. Some times I just give them to someone else who likes it instead of dealing with returns. It is cold and glooming here, were are suppose to get some snow today & tomorrow. My car was broke down so haven't been able to go anywhere, but my son had someone come over & fix it yesterday. So on a nice day I want to get out for a bit and get a haircut, which I am long over do for, & it is driving me crazy. LOL Also need to go to the doctor for refills so need to get that done. It is suppose to be better Mon & Tues so hope to do all that then. Well ladies have a great day will try and stop in again soon! :hi

You are very welcome Sherri. I hope Alexis gets some time to see the sites in Toronto, such a busy girl!

Same here with the frigid weather!
No more JoAnn stores in New York. The one by me always looks dirty and unorganized. I can see why they are closing here. Who would want to shop in a store like that. But I agree, it's the best place to buy fabric. On the bright side, they are opening a Hobby Lobby closer to me. Now I wouldn't have to drive 40 minutes to get to one.
My husbands' friend was a higher up for Southwestern Airlines and he was laid off via an email... what a crappy way to fire someone! My husband was his "companion" and could fly standby whenever he needed to travel. But they are hiring stewardesses.
All is well other than that.

Dropping in to say hello. I had a friend staying over the last few days and it has been really busy. I am worn out :) I haven't had a minute's peace and quiet. I am off to bed. I had to leave very early in the morning to go to my son's. I need a good night's sleep!!

her flight was one hour forty five minutes late yesterday. Long day for her. She is in conference all day long today, and flies back tomorrow.

‘’she has seen some sights in Toronto and ottawa as a number of her conferences that included open days or included a tour day were there. She’s done Lake Ontario on Canada day, a fort near there, a big huge mall, I did Niagara falls with her, she has done the CN tower and museum several times. In ottawa, she toured inside parliament and library, numerous museums, one over in Quebec, the Byward market, beaver tails, and a bunch of stuff at both I don’t remember.

Babysitting the little ones in Riverside today. Steven has changed his hours, so I am up very early with them. The upside is that he gets off work pretty early, so my days are a bit easier. Bruce is a pleasure to be around these days (mostly!). His latest thing is leaving signs around the house, taped to the walls. The bathroom has signs that say "Bath only at Monday!" and "No poop on the walls." Outside the bathroom is a sign that says "Out of order" and on the schoolroom we have "In of order." We have signs in the kitchen that say "We have food" and "for cookies." There are various other signs that say "Home" and others that are not readable. I never get bored.

Where are we all? It has been three whole days since I posted. Did we all go on holiday :)

Seriously, it has been a pretty busy few days. I have been babysitting and catching up on things. I managed to fit in a few scrapping pages. Daughter Karen turned 38 on 22nd. I can't believe it. She is my second youngest. THis has to stop!!!!!

It is Monday and I am at Steven's again. He has a breadmaker and make the most delicious bread for toast. It is so good! Bruce is sitting over my shoulder reading what I am writing. I don't know how much he can understand. He just set an imaginary time and said that when the clock dings I have to go with him immediately. He promptly came over and said DING DING DING, timer went off!! I had better go and see he wants.

He wanted me to see the new setup for the pretend bathroom he has created. He drew a toilet and a bathtub with little people in the tub. Then he drew a tortoise and a pile of tortoise poop. He is trying to teach the tortoise to poop in the pretend toilet.

** sigh **
The work never ends!

I would have posted, Lynnie, but I didn't want to be on the top of a new page, lol!

I'm in the last week of my Renaissance class. I'm supposed to be writing a final paper right now, but my brain is stuck. The professor has very kindly not given us readings this week, just so we can focus on the paper. Next week I start a new class (no week off) whose name escapes me, but should be interesting.

I have been practicing my clarinet too, but it needs a repair (an alternate fingering I need is not working). Preferably before we start ensemble rehearsals on the 9th, sigh. Practicing on my own gets old, and I want to see where my part fits in certain places.

I've been reading and scrapping a little too. Book club is Wednesday and I'm not quite halfway through the book. I'm busy most nights this week, so it may not get done until later. Could use more time!

I just wrapped up my class this evening. I, unlike you Ane, do get a week off and I am glad because I have been pouring my being into the Social Problems class I just finished with. So, this week is for working and maybe scrapbooking. I do also need to set up a couple meetings so I can start to decide which direction I am going to go in for my bachelor's degree. I am pretty stuck between addictions counseling and social work. I know either way I can get into the counseling field, which is my goal.

Also, my friend's little boy is in the hospital with some pretty serious medical issues going on, so if you all do mind to add little Mikey to your thoughts and prayers, I know that it can help.

Ane - why don't you like to be at the top of a new page? Inquiring minds!

Ha! I feel like it makes me stand out more, and I do not like the spotlight.

Lucky you, Dorann! Enjoy it for me. :)

I have been trying all day to get the forum to work so I could wish Carla a Happy Birthday and now the day is almost over. Sigh. Anyone else have issues with the forum site (well, all the gingerscraps.net-related sites actually)?

Thursday will be week three of a four week menopause zoom course I’m taking through our provincial primary care network.

‘’I also signed up for a writing zoom meeting through SADS.org which is my sudden arrythmia death syndrome. The idea is for us to get our heart stories down in writing. I hope I remember to go, it’s third Wednesday each month.

Also, my friend's little boy is in the hospital with some pretty serious medical issues going on, so if you all do mind to add little Mikey to your thoughts and prayers, I know that it can help.

So sorry to hear, prayers for little Mikey!
