Hope all my usa peeps had a good thanksgiving

anyone watch a Netflix show called Buy More? It’s quite the expose of the status of “buy more”.

most of you know I come from a very dysfunctional family, low contact to no contact, it’s heartbreaking that there were never cousins for me or cousins for my kids, I’m not close to my sisters. Don’t know my nephews much. In October my sisters youngest son, and his wife miscarried their baby boy about three months early. Then this past week this same sisters oldest son passed unexpectedly. All in different provinces from me. Although I’m not close I’m still sad about it. I’m very concerned it could restart the drugs and or alcohol for all those involved. That part sucks.

I'm so sorry Sherri. Sorry that you're not close to them... in proximity or emotion and sorry for their losses and your concern. That has to be hard from a distance. All I can say is say your prayers and Let God do His thing.
Haven't seen the show you're talking about, but I may have to look it up.

Headed back to work this morning after a LONG Thanksgiving break and I am so tired. My body got very turned around in sleeping, I guess and I didn't sleep well last night. Wish me luck.

That's about all.

Love and Blessings.

Karen, I am looking forward to seeing your Cricut project :) I have two Cricuts and I love them.

Anne-Marie, I will see about doing the calendar. I love the concept, but I create my calendars using a software program and upload the family ones to be printed. I have to find a way to load them here so we can see them.

Sherri, that is so sad for your sister, losing a grandchild and a child in such a short time. I can see that might restart some addiction issues. It is also too bad that you don't have the support you need. It would be wonderful if your family rallied around you when you are going through difficult times with your health issues.

Carla, I wouldn't mind sleeping in :) I keep meaning to, but I wake up even on the days I want to sleep in. Those few days I actually do sleep late, it is amazing.

I am having a lazy evening. I am downloading my contacts from my phone and starting on my Christmas cards :)

Sherri, I have not heard of that Netflix show, but it seems like an interesting one to check out! I'm sorry to hear about your/your sister's losses. I know how you feel about not being close to your family. I am not very close to mine, so I don't know what's going on with them. It's pretty sad, but we are a bunch of introverts who don't reach out. I am closer to my husband's family.

Carla, how was your first day back at work? I can certainly understand about being sluggish. That's me after vacation too. Ugh.

Lynnie, thanks for the reminder to send Christmas cards. I need to get on mine too. We normally buy them, but also write a newsletter with pictures. Sigh. Part of me wonders if it's worth all the work, especially since I started school again and have less time. The only night I won't go out this week was Monday.

I finally got Christmas up around the house last night. Except our tree. We bought it on sale last year and underestimated its size relative to our space, lol. Plus we're missing a part that we had to order and it won't be her until tomorrow. On a good note, I got 100% on a paper I submitted Sunday. I was expecting worse, so it was a nice surprise. I just keep on plugging away!

OMGosh! SO tired... typical after those long weekends. hahaha... but this one was so bizarre after being turned around and I wasn't the only one. Several others at work mentioned not getting much sleep the night before. Full moon, auras, aliens? wtheck?
It's getting better.

Happy Friday, all! We just completed our final board meeting of the year. So all my work travel is wrapped up for 2024. We have one tiny vacation we're squeezing in before Christmas, but other than that, I'll be a homebody for the rest of the year. Ha.

All I can say about this week is that it is COLD outside! Brrrr!!!! Hope everyone has a great day and a relaxing weekend!

Heading to Washington DC tonight. I have not got my own christmas cards out yet. I will do that when I get back. They will all be late, but that is the best I can do this year :) We will only be gone a few days, but it is a little holiday for us and quite nice, I think. :)

So we finally got our tree up and decorated yesterday. The part that we ordered didn't work, so we bought another new tree. This once came in a box so it already had all the parts! It's currently slowly fading from warm white to multicolored lights. We don't have a star on it yet and it may not go on. Hubby is disinclined to put it on even though I want it on. I am too short to put it on, even with a stepladder. So we'll see.

Besides all that, I have gifts to purchase still then a week from Friday we leave for Ohio. Yay!

Happy Monday, all. We had a busy weekend... our annual Victorian Holiday dinner event that we take Randy's only aunt and uncle to, a visit to a museum to see the Hokusai exhibit, a birthday celebration for my nephew (just turned 18), and a bell choir concert that featured a bag piper! LOL! Didn't get anything else done, but I will have some time this week to catch up on chores and sending out the Christmas cards. Hope everyone has a great week.

Shana, you are busy like Lynnie! Crazy weekend!

I am nearly done with my Christmas shopping. I'm going thrifting with Eren Saturday to get the remaining stuff. My oldest organized a family gift exchange, adults to adults. Should be interesting. I could see this becoming an annual tradition. It would be fun! Do any of your families do anything like that?

Spent part of my day shopping and part writing my paper. Hubby's at an event for a few hours, so now I get to decide what to do the rest of the evening: read, work more on the paper, or fold my laundry. I know what I should do, and I know what I want to do, lol! :)

Ha, Ane! I hear that... what needs to be done can be interpreted loosely in our home, too! I NEEDED to work on my nephew's senior album before his spring graduation. The dishes waited very patiently until I was able to tackle them! LOL!

How are everyone's weekends going? It's a little crazy for me but crazier for my hubby. I had choir practice for a program tomorrow night. Right now I'm waiting to go thrifting with Eren to get items for the last gift I have to buy. Later this evening we have a church Christmas party. Tomorrow we have church and a little time to get things done before the choir program, like moving a couch for Eren. They're lucky we have a Ford Expedition.

Sigh. They were supposed to be here half an hour ago and it's raining. I still have to go out even if I don't go thrifting. I just wish they'd answer their tests in a reasonable amount of time.

I had a lovely time in Washington DC - EXCEPT for my face! I had a very close encounter with the pavement and as a result, have an egg on my head and two black eyes that are sneaking down my face very slowly.... and an injured wrist. I have not made it to urgent care yet, but am on line waiting for a telehealth doctor. It has been exactly 7 days since this happened and the wrist is actually worse. The bruises have developed nicely, but the egg on my head is also not going down. We will see how this goes. The doctor will probably send me to urgent care or to emergency. I have a stinky headache and am feeling quite put out that this is not healed already.

Ane - if your tree is in sections, in future put the star on before putting the top section on. It seems so obvious when someone says that, but it only occurred to me this year AFTER our star was up and crooked. It is an issue every single year!

Lynnie- OW!!! I hope you are taken care of now! I just hope you don't have a concussion and a broken wrist. :(

Thank you for the bit about the star- that is genius! I am 50 years old and I've never heard or thought of that before!

I'm guessing everyone's busy with Christmas preparations. I'll leave y'all to it! :)

I know, Ane, right!! Why haven't we considered putting the star on BEFORE we put the top up!! It seems so obvious, but I am 70 and never thought of it before :)

I waited online for the telehealth doctor for 45 minutes (they were very clear about how long it would take, then texted when it was time.) After looking at my face (see below) and my wrist, the doctor immediately sent me to the emergency room. After a CT scan and x-ray, the ER staff were surprised to tell me that nothing was broken and I still had a brain. My face looks so much better than a few days ago. My son told me I have a superhero mask. Grandson Bruce (5) said, "What DID you do to your face?" Scarlett (1) poked the lump on my head and said "Owie!" (So did I when she poked it!!) Bruce hugged me on and off throughout the day to make me feel better.

OMG Lynnie! HOLY................... REALLY BAD WORD!!!
You must have a super hero mask. Owie is not the word I would use. (see above) Glad you had a "lovely" time in DC until... then. I probably wouldn't have survived. So glad nothing was broken. Wow. Wonderful to know your brain survived. Apparently your sense of humor is in tact as well. Love you. Heal quickly.

Love and Blessings to all as we prep for Christmas!

LYNNIE!!! OW!!!! Oh you poor dear. I'm so sorry you've had a "pavement close encounter." I do like the superhero mask spin, and maybe you need to create a new backstory about fighting off hordes of evil, robotic chickens or something along those lines. Egads... hope you heal up soon!

Ane, I understand the frustration with family and timely communications. Following the success of last year's family holiday gathering, my dad asked me to organize another one this year. I started planning in July and asked both my brothers for dates that would work for their families. After they finally responded, my older brother changed his dates. I realized he would make sure no date worked for him, so I canceled the venue and decided not to organize the gathering this year.

My dad is hurt by my older brother's behavior, but it's the same issues he always brings up. Since it doesn't affect me directly, I've planned to take my dad to his favorite dinner theater and will visit my younger brother and his family next month.

It's hard to understand why my older brother always causes drama and then plays the victim. He was always the strongest and most popular as a kid, but as an adult, he's struggled to maintain that image and has gone into debt to appear successful. He's lost jobs due to his attitude and sense of entitlement. He still thinks he dominates over my younger brother and me, but we've moved on and don't share much about our lives with him. He constantly posts about his perfect life on FB. I suggested he seek counseling, and his wife did too, but he sees it as a weakness. Fortunately, I live in a different state and have set firm boundaries. Ah, the joys of the holiday season.

Anyway, did I mention that Randy and I are taking off this week to get away from all family and work stresses!? CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!

My week has been exhausting...

Another prayer request...my husband has just been diagnosed with kidney, spine and brain cancer. Any prayers are appreciated!

Karen, I am so sorry! That is such difficult news at any time, but it does take the shine off the holidays. Love and prayers to you both.

Oh my goodness Lynnie!! Just thought I would see whats going on on this thread and did not expect to find this!! You really got to know the pavement! So sorry that happened to you and hope it is getting better every day. Glad nothing is broken and your brain is still in great shape! Glad your visit to Washington DC was good until that point. Keep on healing!!

Update: We are working on bringing hubby home with medical assistance. His diagnosis has not changed but is being treated with pain meds so he is comfortable. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.
