WOOHOO! So excited for you Ane! What an accomplishment just to get that far. The first step and all. You'll do just fine. You're a rock star at writing. Good luck.

Thanks, Carla!

The funkiest thing happened yesterday . . . my admissions counselor called me and cleared me to register for class, so I did! I'll be starting Sept. 2nd, which gives me more time to apply for more scholarships! In fact, I found one just for military spouses and completed that application, so now I just have to finish the other and move on. :)

How is everyone else doing this interesting week?

Good for you.
It sounds such a different process in the US. Here in NZ you wouldn't get a student ID until you were enrolled in a class and I've never heard of anyone having an admissions counsellor.

Hello my friends. Popping in to say. Work has been a tad crazy so creative time has been a struggle to achieve. I've been training folks and have another round next week. Managed to get some layouts done between yesterday and today. Felt great!!! Hope everyone is doing good. I'm gonna skim this thread and try to catch up a bit.

How's everyone doing this weekend? We did not do our usual shopping yesterday, mostly because we have enough food and we're going on a trip Wednesday and didn't want to buy more. Hubby and I are 2 leaders of the activity arm of the children's ministry at our church and we had a pool party in the morning. I spent most of the afternoon researching and applying for some scholarships. Today we just went to church. When I got home, I took a nap. Other than that, we haven't done much today. I may work on another scholarship essay with the rest of my days, but we'll see. :)

My trip starts tomorrow. I will be gone for a few days but will be able to check in as I am taking my laptop. I get to see my other son & DIL, my FIL (to celebrate his 80th birthday), and some friends of ours. It will be so fun and hopefully not too taxing for me.

I hope y'all have a great rest of your week! :)

Way to go Ane, CONGRATULATIONS!

Just back from a trip to Oregon with my son, it was amazing! Now I have lots of housework, gardening and my Europe book is due to order tomorrow so I will be doing the last pages and sending off for print in the morning.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

It has been pretty quiet in the group :) I am delighted for how well things are going for you, Ane. Here are a few prayers for the scholarships!!

My life, as always, is over the top!

I think I mentioned earlier that Steven and Nessa have decided to homeschool Bruce. I have him four days a week, (three of which are weekdays), so I homeschool two days and Nessa does two days. We are having an amazing time doing it. I have never had this much fun with him. We are using online homeschool software, plus supplemental lessons. Some of it is pretty advanced. We are learning Qualitative and Quantitative Properties in Observing Matter for his Kindergarten Science. He doesn't get it 100% yet, but I think he will. Math, he is learning flat and 3-D shapes (plus adding and subtracting). He is learning multi-syllable and rhyming words in Language Arts. We have been practicing qualitative and quantitative qualities in real life to supplement. We examine objects with a tape measure, scales, measuring cups, and our senses. In addition, we do art every day. He is an awesome artist and we have so much fun drawing and painting. We are also doing music.

The Daughters of the British Empire is also taking up much time. I am working at the Local, State and National levels now. Fortunately, the National Level is not a lot of time. I am not currently on the board or any committees, although I might end up on their social media committee. Either way, I don't think it will be very time-consuming. Locally, we just completed two fundraisers. Savers (a charity shop chain) has a lovely fundraiser where you take all your used stuff for donation and they pay you for it. We took three carloads of stuff and got $138. It is not a lot, but it is free money!! I have been working hard on our social media page. If anyone is interested... https://www.facebook.com/dberoyalascot. The State Board is on holiday for the summer, so I have just been coping with a few things there.

Grandson Bruce's 5th birthday is in August. We are having a party for him - so there is that! He picked "Inside Out" as the theme. This is the first time Bruce chose the theme. It was the theme for last year, but he just saw Inside Out 2 and wants that as the theme again. He loves Monsters, Inc, though, so I hope he doesn't change his mind before the party because we have been working on Inside Out.

My friend's daughter is getting married in October. I finished her wedding invitation, the RSVP, and addressed all the envelopes. That was fun. The great part is that I get to use all my scrapping skills for the stuff I am doing. I have to work on other things for the wedding.

I am also working on my brother's 50th HS reunion. I knew all his friends well, so this is lots of fun.

On top of that, I have some shirts to heat press for a birthday party and some tumblers that need a design added to them.

Yikes!!! I think I would fail 5 year old home schooling. Sounds like you are doing a great job as always Lynnie. Take care of you too.

To be honest, I did fail the Social Skills, haha! These questions for a five-year-old baffled me and he is not even five yet!!

What personal skills will these social skills lessons help you practice?
Critical Thinking
Kindness
Communication
Problem-solving

Why is becoming independent important?
So you can complete a task when there is no one around to help
So you can clean up any mess you make
To prepare for being an adult
all of the above

and in science, I am teaching him Qualitative and Quantitative skills....

These seem awfully difficult for an almost five year old.

Oh wow, Lynnie, that was so cool. It was really awesome that you were able to find out so much about your Uncle Stan and all of them. That's a beautiful memorial.

I get it about homeschooling. No way I could ever do that. Other people's kids, sure. Not mine. Well, I've helped my grands, but not full-time and only math and science. I'm not great in the other subjects. Good for you going at it. Bruce will benefit in more than just academics having you around. I guarantee.

Lynnie, thank you! I will watch your video. :) You are amazing all around!

It has been quiet here. I check every day and was glad to see some chatter today! I have just been busy the last few days on my vacation. We've visited with lots of family and a few friends. We had a birthday party for my FIL who just turned 80. We've done some shopping, spent lots of time with our 2nd son and his wife, and even kicked around our old college campus. Sure is different from when we graduated 29 years ago! We have 1 more full day here and hopefully will fly home Tuesday. I think most airlines are up and running again, aren't they? If not , we'll extend our rental and drive home lol.

I hope everyone's doing well this weekend! Have a great week, y'all! :)

Hi all! Just popped in to say HELLO! I'm back from camp and am still sleep-deprived. Ha. Have a two-day conference to attend this week, and then my big summer meeting event kicks off the following week. Will pop in as I'm able! :)

Lynnie, I enjoyed your video on your Uncle's service, truly a beautiful tribute! Kudos the homeschooling, I am sure it is rewarding for both you and your daughter.

Ane, Happy Belated birthday to your FIL! Safe travels home.

Shana, You are always so busy and such a lucky lady to work with all those youths!

I have been so busy since I returned form my short trip to Oregon...I had a glorious time! A coupe days ago I attended a VW Car show which was a lot of fun but it was so HOT then yesterday I wasn't feeling well and tested positive for COVID. So I have been mostly resting and catching up on some computer work. I am so bummed out that I am missing time cycling with my group this week. Have a great week everyone.

Nice to see you, Shana! Glad you survived the big event! :)

Karen, aww man, covid? Boo! Get well soon! :)

I hope we can get on our flight tomorrow. We're checked in, so fingers crossed.

Have a great week, everyone!

There seems to be a bit of an uptick with COVID this last few weeks. Some of our ladies at the Daughters of the British Empire have come down with it this last month and we haven't had a case in a year. One of them had a heart issue, went to her doctor, they immediately transported her by ambulance to the hospital and she had a pacemaker installed. She was out of the hospital a few days later, then came down with COVID a day or so later.

I am really enjoying homeschooling. I hope it stays that way. I sat down and started scrapping a page on homeschooling. Then I got distracted by real life (cooking, cleaning, etc).

Hi everyone. I’ve been home for a week now after 60 days in hospital. The rehabilitation unit, was intended to give me neurological rehabilitation and occupational therapy physiotherapy and speech language therapy. Covid hit the unit really hard while I was there, and over half my time there was under quarantine restrictions. I didn’t ever test positive for Covid. But I did have some kind of bug that affected me and kept me isolated alone. I was tested for so much and everything was negative.
for the therapies I participated in, physiotherapy really helped increase my strength balance and was so beneficial. Occupational therapy covered a wide array of things and helped as well. I’ll be referred to both of these as outpatient to continue.
Unfortunately neuro rehab just wasn’t there for me. They didn’t have the knowledge or staff or programming to help with an anoxic brain injury. I was very disappointed about this. I know I can’t be “fixed” but was hoping for strategies to help.
i got out of the hospital the day before my “rebirthdays”. The days in July in 2012 when I had to be resuscitated in order to live.
very emotional days. Thank you for the card for those days Carla.

Hi all its been a while since I posted in here & just skimmed the last few pages to catch up.
Everyone has been so busy as usual, I hope you are all well

I'm just doing the usual juggle of kids at school, working & weekend sport as I can. Its been a struggle since my surgery in March which took 6 weeks to recover, had a good 2 weeks starting to get back to myself & then hit with really bad cough that is now on week 7 & 2 lots of antibiotics. The coughing has triggered my bad shoulder & caused a few migraines so I'm back at the physio for the next 12 weeks to fix that again. Hoping that is the last health issue for a few weeks so I can get my head back in the game, have just felt so horrible, had no creativity & just tired.

Looking forward to the weekend as we have been having a massive clear out of our yard & house. With 5 kids & only 3 bedrooms we have to do this every once in a while to make sure we all have a little bit of space. I have donated a few bags of clothes to charity & we took a bunch of stuff to be recycled. Last weekend we gave the neighbours hedge a trim as it was knocking the fence over between our properties & hopefully we will get the backyard done this week as it & the driveway has become a dumping ground for our old signs. We work from home so we have work/home life crossover & with me being sick since May last year the rubbish has just accumulated. Feels good to be getting everything back to how it should be

Anyway its almost 9am & I have to get my physio exercises done before my appointment & get a bunch of orders processed for work. Also have to clear a space for the boys to begin their vex robot buld for this season. Take care all

WOW ALL!

Sending love and HEALING prayers to everyone who needs them.

60 days in the hospital and 12 weeks of physio and covid here and there and omgosh!

I am going to STOP complaining about my knees and wrists. I am Blessed. There, I said it.

Love and Blessings.

Good morning ladies. The summer is flying by. I'm out every day...dog park, cards at the senior center, birding trips, lunch and mahjong with the ladies group, visiting with new friends. Our little town has a lot going on. I am definitely not scrapping as much as I used to, nor do I watch as much TV. When the new shows start up in the fall I'll have to let a few go b/c I PVR more than I can watch. I still have many shows from last season that I haven't seen yet.

I never went to the Calgary stampede, it was so hot here that I couldn't imagine walking around in that heat for hours. Maybe next year. We've been busy planning a cruise in Sept/Oct. We are spending a few days in Quebec City, then 11 days on a cruise along the eastern coast, then staying in Boston for 3 days before flying home. Hope to see some nice fall color in Boston. I think the optimal time would be a week or two later but I worry about the weather getting too rainy so we compromised for late Sept to mid Oct.

I'm reading a bit more now but, again, not as much as I used to. It's funny how retired life is not at all what I imagined LOL. I thought I'd be scrapping and reading all the time, but no...not at all.

I'm surprised that covid seems to be making a resurgence. I would have thought the fall would be when it started to increase again. Hopefully the symptoms are lessening now. Haven't heard of anyone in our town having it this year (fingers crossed).

I'm getting another coffee and then heading out to play canasta in a bit. Hope everyone is well.

Welcome Home, Sherri, we have missed your posts. 60 days is a long time. I hope you are happy to be home and all is going well there. I am glad some of the therapy worked for you. Hopefully, you can find some coping skills to get by.

Sam, it is lovely to see you here again. Health issues are awful to deal with on a day-to-day basis, and so many in a row must be doubly difficult. I know the feeling of being uncreative. Having a good clear-out lifts my spirits and helps with my health for me.

Carla, feel free to keep complaining ;) it is all relative. We have to deal with what is wrong with our health and a little wine here and there never hurt anyone. Did I say wine? I must have meant whine!

Rae, I love seeing your photos on Facebook. They are so beautiful. I can understand why you are having a more difficult time fitting in a bit of scrapping. I thought I would be scrapping and reading, but here I am - homeschooling Bruce and involved in 1000 organizations and projects.

Today, I have daughter Karen and friend Tina coming over for projects. Tina and I are working on wedding stuff for her daughter. Karen is helping me with two paid projects. The money on both of them will be donated to charity, but still. I was feeling a little overwhelmed, so she elected to come and help. Tomorrow, I go to Steven's to be with the grandbabies and homeschool Bruce. This time, it is from Thursday to Monday, so longer than usual. My poor husband is so patient.
