Sure makes me feel better that I'm not the only one with refrigerator issues, Shana! LOL I really "can't wait" to get a new one. (aside from the looking and expense) So glad hubby is home and you made it before the ICKY weather. Man the weather has been horrible EVERYWHERE!!!

Well... pray for us today. Meeting with the youngest DD to discuss the condo and her future there. Should be interesting and could be "explosive". smh.

Happy Friday, everyone!

I was driving through the big city this morning when my car started to overheat. When the usual measures didn't work, I took an exit and parked. I called hubby and he called out mechanic. After spending $50 on coolant, he found me and started pouring coolant into the car. After a while, he told me to take his car. He limped home in my car and used all 3 gallons of coolant to get it home. We suspect a leak somewhere, and we're darn lucky I was in a safe part of town when it happened. I could be sitting on the side of road with a nice Jeep sculpture.

So now we're down to 1 car again. Good thing I don't really have to go anyplace for a few weeks! Looks to be another quiet weekend for us. I think we're cleaning the garage tomorrow. :)

Hi Folks, I'm just dropping in to say I have been up to my ears. I had a memorial I was working on for a friend, which involved a lot of work. It finally happened last Saturday, and I am still recovering! In addition, my son David's (who died in 2016) died. I have only seen him once in the last 45 years; that was for the memorial service of my son. I stayed with him and his wife. I have been in contact on and off since then, mostly with his wife. She is devastated. He was only 70, and it was very sudden. I am not heartbroken but sad for them and all the good memories. She needed a lot of pictures and various other things, so I have been helping her.

Then, I am still babysitting four days a week and working on various projects. I think things will settle down after I get this last big project out of the way.

I have read through and caught up, so big hugs to everyone. I will try to make time to answer everything later in the week, I just wanted you to know i have not fallen off the face of the earth.

Ane, I hate having car problems especially when you are by yourself. Thankfully you were able to get help and be back home, hoping your car issues are resolved.

Lynnie, I am sorry to hear of your son and so tragic that you were estranged for so long and give yourself some time to grieve. Hugs to you and your family.

It has been a busy couple of weeks, still working on the house and hopefully ready for sale in the spring. I went to visit my friend that is living in the 55+ place where I want to move to, it is really a lovely place but a lot smaller than what we have ever had. Hubby is not liking the garage area as he has no room for a workshop but there is space in the basement if I can convince him. It will probably be awhile until anything come available but my friend is keeping her ears open for anyone moving and perhaps I can grab it before it goes on the market...fingers crossed.

My son has booked our trip to Italy for the fall so I have been busy planning with him, so excited to fulfill some of my retirement bucket list items. But first, we are going to Florida in March, my son will be working but my DIL and my Grandie will be doing Disney and Universal.

Hope everyone is doing well and getting lots of crafty time.

OK - I totally missed an important word - the person who died was the father of my son, David. David died in 2016, and his dad just died. I saw the father twice since shortly after David was born in 1974. He abandoned us, and I moved on just fine without him. I saw him once after I had graduated from college and had a very successful career. He was hustling pool for a living. He was busy telling me I was the one who got away, and I said, "Aw, that's too bad; it worked out well for me." (But not quite that blunt.) I saw him again when we scattered David's ashes off the coast in canoes in 2017. I am sad for his family and for the good memories I do have with him, but it has not affected me deeply. Just a bit of a "Wow, life is short!" moment.

Happy Sunday and the start to a new week. Golly, I didn't realize I missed a week here. All caught up reading.
My past week was busy with a couple of appointments, the gym and the g'kiddo's. I was also a speaker for a preschool class [ages 4-5] at the church where I attend and a member of Shawls of Hope. My presentation for the children was yarn/fabric related as they were studying about clothing. So,...I brought in completed along with in progress examples of: Loom knitting, crochet and knitting. The children were darling. Then my meeting where I got to turn in [donate] a couple completed items.

The next project I started is a temperature blanket Hubby's request. In case anyone is wondering...you knit or crochet a row each day of the year based on the temperature where you live. It can be the high, the low, or select a time of day. Then based on your temperature [some use 10 degree increments; or 5 degrees or whatever] use the color palette you chose. The blankets are all unique! Some my granddaughter wanted one too. However she is not willing to wait a year nor did she like the colors I chose for the various temperatures. Her decision was to select her own by a blind draw from a bag. LOL

Shana- I wished I'd knew when you were going to be in Tampa. I live here! I sure hope your husband is feeling better.

Carla - good luck with the PT. Yes- they can be hard on you.

Sylfie- Hang in there. Try something new...maybe photographing nature, a new hobby. Big hugs to you.

Carla- I saw those temperatures by you! We have relatives in S. Louisiana...and it was quite cold here as well.

Ane- I would freak with car things. Glad you stayed safe.

m

Those temperature blankets are so neat, Michelle! Can't wait to see what yours turns out like.

Going to be a bit of a tough week here. We lost my "other mother" last weekend and her funeral is on Thursday. She's my oldest, bestie's mom. Grew up next door to her since I was three and MommaJean was really my other mother. I even called her Momma and walked into their house and hugged everyone, even Eddie the oldest son, when he was around. Grandma Oie lived with them and she was my other grandma too. Even my mom called her Grandma Oie. Grandma Oie, Momma and my Mom worked for an entire day one time to figure out our now-family-recipe for Krumkake batter. OMGosh... what a hoot. Us kids were sorta watching until the language started to fly! Then they told us to "SCOOT!" in no uncertain terms!
Those three ladies were a wonderful group of role models. They watched out for us, taught us, loved on us and played with us. Yup... gonna be a tough week. Mom is the only one left and she's not "quite" all here anymore. But Thank God, I've got her.

Anyway, sorry to be a downer.
Love ya!
Have a good week.

I will definitely scrap the experience. I'm not sure how to put just a picture here on this thread. Whenever I've tried it...there's no photo and a b'zillon lines of weird text.

Thinking of you and the loss of your other Mama. I get it.
Hugs.

Michi, I had to look up temperature blankets to find out more. How many colours have you chosen for your project? When I read your post, I was imagining, like your granddaughter wanted, pulling out yarn according to how you were feeling on that day and picturing a mish mash of clashing colours. It sounds like fun now I know a bit more. The creativity and imagination of people always amazes me...how does someone even think of such a thing in the first place. Looking forward to seeing the result or the ongoing progress if you can figure out how to post photos in here.

At the beginning of the year, I promised Lynnie I would become more active in this thread....ooops, the first month is almost done and this is my first post. Sorry Lynnie. And also sorry to hear of the loss of David and Mark's dad, it is always sad when a life is lost despite the past not so good memories.

Mid summer here and very hot...Country Music Festival wound up yesterday. I felt sorry for the hundreds of visitors who were camping in tents in 40C temps. A very successful festival, back to its norm after Covid years....although I expect there will be an influx of Covid cases due to the packed entertainment venues these past 10 days. My granddaughter travelled to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open tennis last week, massive crowds there too....she tested positive to Covid 3 days after arriving home.

Have a great day ladies.

Jill, it's always good to see posts from you! So glad you promised Lynnie you'd check in here!

Lynne, sorry for your loss... and honestly, I probably would have been even more blunt! You are an amazing person.

Ane, so glad you were able to pull over in safe place!

Michi, I will be sure to let you know the next time I'm in Tampa! And hopefully I will be able to stay for the whole trip. The last time I was in Tampa (a few years ago), I had to rush home to be with my daughter when she needed her wisdom teeth out. We could get an appointment, and I came back home to be with her. And yes, I did capture wonderful video of her after her procedure when she was on happy meds. LOL!

Randy is home and recovering. He still has some pain as he continues to pass stones. So he's spending a lot of time sleeping right now. He did make sure to stay away long enough to take me to a nice lunch yesterday for my birthday. But he's paying for that excursion now.

I've spent most the weekend FINISHING MY CRUISE ALBUM!!! YAY!!! We were on that cruise exactly one year ago. If anyone wants to see it, you can view the Shutterfly album here.

I spent this afternoon at a track meet to cheer on one of the nephews. The sun is actually shining and we don't have any wind, so I'm going to take the opportunity to go drop off our recycling without fear of it blowing away or getting drenched.

Hope everyone has a great rest of your weekend!

Happy Monday- It is going to be a cold one here for a few days. As for the temperature blanket, I have chosen 11 colors [I bought 12- but didn't like how one of the blue shades interacted. ] and using 5 degree increments. At present, I am playing catch up on January dates. I'm up to Jan. 11 now, but I do have all the temperatures recorded. Now granddaughters - who knows, she may use all 20 different colors from that mini skein set I purchased.

Shana- I look forward to checking out your cruise album.

Jill, I am delighted to see you whenever you can make it here. I know how busy you are with your awesome scrapping pages and beautiful comments on everyone's pages! I love it when you can make it here, but don't ever feel guilty... well not TOO guilty haha.

Ane, cards are a nuisance when they don't work properly. Hopefully this will be a quick fix. It took us years to get the windshield wipers replaced, so I am not a good resource for anyone for cars :)

Michi, I love the temperature blanket thing. Like Jill, I looked up pictures and they look lovely. If I started in January, I think I would still be in cold weather when I picked up the blanket next year and the year after to finish it.

Shana, I am glad Randy is home, bu hope he is all the way better soon. Your cruise album is spectacular. I really enjoyed going through the pages. I started out reading them, but then decided I didn't have time, but I still spent some time looking at each page.

I forget whatever else I was going to answer, but I have read everything and big hugs to all of you!!

It has been a month for loss! As I told you before, my friend, Margaret; my ex, Dayne; and now my friend's brother-in-law! Why, you ask, am I concerned with my friend's BIL. You may well ask!! My friend's husband was part of a big family and I got close to the family when Karen was dating her son. SO, the tangled family threads ended up with one of the other members of the family asking if I would do some scrapbook pages for the family. So I created 16 pages yesterday.

I had also been working on a memory book for the 50-Year Reunion for the class between mine and my brother's. I forget how I roped myself into it, but it was all my fault. It is finally done. If you want a peek you can see it here: BGHS Class '73 50-Year Reunion Book. It is 28 pages and I have been working on it on and off since October. It doesn't look like much, but I was waiting for some information from the class committee.

So today, I am experiencing a huge sense of relief and looking forward to scrapping in February! I have not been scrapping for myself in FOREVER. I am so thrilled to be under from all my projects with just scrapping for myself in my future. I am NOT signing up for anything else this year.

Lynnie, thanks for looking at the book. And no... I don't expect anyone to read every page. Heck, I doubt my husband will read any of it! LOL! I clicked on your link to check out your album, but I got an error message.

Karen and Michi, thank you! <3

It is a GORGEOUS day out today. Sun in shining. Wind is barely moving. Snow is melting. Randy and I walked around the neighborhood a little bit. Just lovely.

I wouldn't wish Shingles on anyone. I feel somewhat better but I still have the nerve pain. Some say that can last a long while. I had back aches since Thanksgiving and finally Shingles rash appeared just before New Years. I missed close to 15 days of work for the month of December between back pain and Shingles and it would have been more if it wasn't for the holidays between there. I got the CPAP machine last week. The first two days were awful and I didn't sleep much. I'm getting used to it. Just having a tough time with air leakage, although most nights it is within allowed limits it's still very annoying with the air blowing in my eyes. I feel some nights I'm adjusting it too much. Some nights I slept the whole night. It's only been a week and I'm still adjusting.
My MIL passed away Jan. 2. It was sudden but she's had alzheimers for a while and was living in assisted living by her daughters house. They think it might have been intestine cancer but they weren't going to do an autopsy. They transported the body to NY and was laid out where her parents were buried. Her husband was buried in a military place many years ago.
Than I caught a cold but fought it off and went to work and stayed at my cubby. Jeff went to Disney with his Disney dads and got home last week and now he has a head cold, probably same as what I had.
Finally got my car back two weeks ago after sharing with my daughter for two months.
As I told others... this year can only get better!!!

See all the lovely layouts I want to scrap but things seem so different now from when I used to scrap and design daily. Maybe soon I'll get back into it!

Jill, So nice to see you pop in the group chat. I love a good country music concert but have never gone to a festival. We have the Dauphin County Fest here but is has always been a young crowd that parties too much for my liking. Hoping your granddaughter is recovering now...dang that Covid still hanging around!

Michi, The blanket sounds fun, I would love to try this but I haven't crocheted in years and I was just a beginner then, maybe I will pick it up again and try for next year.

Lily Ann, sorry to hear about your MIL and that you pain is still lingering. Sometimes life throws us curveballs but hang in there!

Lynnie, you are such a generous person but I do hope that you can find some time to scrap for yourself. Your layouts are always a joy to see.

Shana, Happy to hear Randy is doing better, walks are the best!

We are having unusually beautiful weather for this time of the year, hoping it stays until spring. I have been getting out doing some fun activities with my walking group and joining my son on an on-line push-up challenge for February for Mental Health. My painting is coming along and I am nearing the finish line.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Lily Ann- I totally totally understand what you are going through both with the shingles...and the CPAP machine.
For me that nerve pain lingered on ...off and on, for years. Sometimes just the sun hitting the back of my neck would trigger it. Or a tag in a shirt that was fine for years...now irritated me.
As for the CPAP- [I affectionately call mine - c-Crap], I get it. I've had mine since April 26, 2023. There were nights when I threw it across the room.
Check with your doctor to see if you have the best mask for you. That was part one of my issue. Totally the wrong size. Plus he changed which one I was using. For the first several months the CPAP I had was on APAP[where the pressures adjust based on what that machine thinks you need]. After another testing in a sleep facility, I was switched to CPAP or a constant pressure. Good luck to you. Sending big hugs.

Jill, good to see you here! I hope your granddaughter gets well soon!

Shana, I'm glad hubby is getting better. I know what that pain feels like! I'll check out your album when I get a moment. :)

Lynnie, so glad you are nearly done with all your big projects! Do take time for yourself and do your things.

Lily Ann, so sorry about your shingles! Hubby got them a few years back due to stress. Not fun! And I hope you adjust to your CPAP soon. It sucks to have it, but it's better than the alternative, from what I hear.

Karen, I'd love to see your painting when you are finished! I'm glad the weather has eased up for you. It has here, too.

Michi, your blanket project sounds interesting! I'd love to see that when you are finished to get the idea of what it is. I have a general idea, and it sounds fun and beautiful. :)

My cold is still waning- just lingering congestion. And I got my car back yesterday. It is working well again. The problem was a cracked radiator. That could have been so bad had I continued to drive without coolant. I'm grateful the mechanic was able to squeeze us in. Hubby will be working long hours for about a week and I may need to help Eren if they get their wisdom teeth pulled this week.

Shana, how strange, I can click on the link just fine. I am not sure why it is not working for you, the link works on my iPhone even. Try this:

BGHS Book

If it still doesn't work, I have no idea. It is not that important, except we are sending it out to people and I would be distressed if a lot of people can't get in.

LilyAnn, I hope you feel better soon, both the shingles and the CPAP. Dealing with both must be pretty frustrating. I am also sorry to hear about your mother-in-law.

I have had a few days off and done absolutely nothing. I finished the reunion book, then the 16 memory pages and I was so burned out I have just sat in my chair and got nothing accomplished.

Wow Shana and Lynnie, your books are amazing! Such a lot of work and dedication involved putting those together. They will be treasures down the ages. Isnt it great the way we can view them, almost like paging through a real life book. Thank you for sharing.

Shingles is such a horrible virus, I know people who suffer the prolonged nerve pain for ages afterwards. Do any of you get the vaccine that is now available? It doesnt prevent you getting shingles but is supposed to lessen the severity. I have had the vaccine but thankfully never had the virus. My mum had it on her face, it was agonising for her.

I have to grocery shop today, Ive put it off for 5 days already and am getting low on staples. It is not one of my favourite chores. My late hubby used to make a social occasion of it, stopping to talk to everyone, tidying the shelves, bringing forward products that were sitting at the back of the shelves (he worked in retail for all of his working life). Grocery shopping is a necessary evil to me, get the job done as quickly as possible was my approach. I would get so irate that it was taking us so long to get the job done while he was with me that I eventually gave him the list and left him to it. Now I would give anything to have him back to go grocery shopping with. You don't know what you've got til it's gone as the saying goes. I do online grocery shopping from time to time, but I do like to choose my own fresh fruit and veg.

Hot hot hot here, temps will reach into the 40C this week, I am a greasespot.

Lynnie, the new link worked! How fun. I love how you showed which alumni attended which elementary schools, as well! :)

The last couple of days have been unseasonably warm and just beautiful (mid 60s to low 70s). So I have enjoyed walking outside. We are supposed to get some rain this weekend.

Our big winter conference that I organize starts tomorrow and runs through Monday. We changed venues this year and tried to limit our attendees, but we still have 300 people. I offer four courses for our directors over the weekend, then a general session and legislative activities at our State Capitol on Monday. I also have a Sunday night social and a Monday night reception. I look forward to Tuesday! LOL!!!

I agree! Shana and Lynnie, those books are just awesome.
Shana, your trip looks amazing. I'm so jealous.
Lynnie, what wonderful memories. I especially like the elementary group pictures. How clever! I wish I had thought of that for our 50th. We had a really good turnout.

I've ready everything from everyone. I wish you all the best in whatever you are attempting. Sorry for the troubles you're facing. I just don't have it in me to address it all individually today. Know that I love you all.

Heading out to MommaJean's funeral.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Lynnie, I'm glad you had some "do nothing" time. I'm learning for myself how necessary it is.

Jill, I hope you finally did the shopping! I don't like going by myself either. I prefer going with hubby and/or Eren. Sometimes that's what we do for dates, lol!

Sherri, how are your pain levels? I'm still praying for you! :)

Shana, how's you're big winter conference going? I couldn't imagine being in charge of anything like that!

Carla, thanks for the love! Just know that I am thinking about you too.

Me, it's been lonely the past few days with hubby working long hours. But he may be done today, we'll just have to see. Eren came home right after class today, just to keep me company. I don't know when we're going to go shopping tomorrow- I'm going to a basketball game with Eren right in the middle of the day. If hubby's home tomorrow, he'll have to do it alone. And I'm sure Sunday will be nice and quiet.

News r today: Alberta groundhog, Balzac Billy sees his shadow, calls for 6 more weeks of winter. Six more weeks of winter! Balzac Billy, the famous weather predicting groundhog, saw his shadow Friday morning, and called for six more weeks of winter. ick, just ick.

wear red day was also the 2nd to raise awareness for female heart disease … her heart matters

i have cabin fever stuck at home. First world problem I guess

Ane, thanks for your kind words. Winter Conference is going well, and I have a few minutes to check in. I did the walk through with the venue staff and our AV company yesterday. I thought we were all good to go. I showed up at 6:30 a.m. only to find that the staff did not complete the room set up after I left. So I got to spend the first 30 minutes this morning moving furniture out of our meeting space and setting up the tables we needed for registration. The director of sales was horrified, and she sent restaurant staff over to help. Oy vey. There’s a reason I wear tennis shoes to these events. I’ve already got all my steps in for the day! LOL!

But by the time my attendees started to show up, everything was ready to go. Lunch went off without a hitch and it was very good. So we have about three more hours of both of our directors’ courses yet today, then I’m taking the instructors out to dinner. I’ve known these two for decades, so it will be a low-key catch up session. Then I plan to go to be early. LOL!

Sherri, thanks for the reminder about wearing red for heart health awareness. Most of us do that in our office, and we all seem to appreciate health reminders where we can make it a little fun, too. I always feel that the best way to learn is to weave in appropriate humor.

I’m sitting at the back of the training room, wondering if I could get away with bringing my laptop for tomorrow’s courses and work on layouts! LOL!!!

Happy Monday everyone.
Lynnie and Shana- both books are awesome. Thank you for sharing the links. I can't wait to cruise again!

Our weekend overall low key. We did go to flag football Friday night. So cold! Baseball cancelled due to rain on Saturday.

m

Jill, My husband is out at present doing the... GROCERY SHOPPING! I came online to see how things were going, and that was your topic! I am not very good at grocery shopping. I buy too much, don't like doing it, and always forget things. He started grocery shopping at the beginning of the pandemic and kept doing it. He never liked me out amongst the 'potentially lethal' people out there. After reading your post, I am content to let him continue, and I am doubly grateful for him.

Sherri, I was at my son's when I was reminded of the "Wear Red" day. I wear so much red; for once, I did not have a shirt. I was so cross. I am wearing it today, though, just for you! I'm so sorry. Balzac Billy saw his shadow. But it looks like Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam, as well as Ontario's Willie Wiarton, all predicted an early spring! Not to mention Quebec’s Fred la Marmotte? He also didn't see his shadow - which means an early spring! Billy's American colleague, Punxsutawney Phil, also predicted an early spring down in Pennsylvania. So.... Balzac Billy is the only one! Is he closest to you?

Shana, it sounds as though the conference is going very well. Did you take your laptop and get some pages done? You are so good at multitasking.

Carla, we do the junior high and grade school pictures at most of our reunions as well as directory pictures. I loved doing the album. This was for the class after mine graduated. I will be doing the same for my brother's 50th this year. It will be fabulous. The nice thing is that we have the albums for future reunions. I also did a lovely video for our 45th reunion, which I love to watch.

Ane, it sounds as though you are having a lovely time with Eren and that they are keeping you good company. It is lovely to spend time with our children!

I babysat Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, then came home before the Pineapple Express hit. The first wave was actually Thursday morning, and it was pretty scary driving. I was glad to get there. After that, the weather was quite lovely until Sunday, when the storm hit with a vengeance. It has only got worse. I was really unwell Sunday with an upset tummy and only had some dry toast. Fortunately, I only felt very unwell, and I didn't have other symptoms to cope with. The dry toast and water helped a lot. I usually babysit on Monday, but with the storm still making the roads unsafe and feeling quite poorly, I stayed home. Steven didn't take Bruce to school because it was raining too severely, and the baby was not well. He didn't want to take the baby out in the rain, and Bruce has not been very well anyway. Sunday, we watched the film "Noah." I have never seen such a butchered version of a Bible story. My husband immensely enjoyed it, but I was so confused with regard to some of the director's and writer's decisions. Did we have to have Noah as a brilliant sword and staff fighter? Did we have to forget that the son's wives made it onto the Ark? And the Rock Angels were very helpful, I supposed, but really? Give me Charlton Heston's Exodus any day!
