I had SUCH a busy day yesterday.

  • I got up, got breakfast for my mother and her medication
  • Then I went to visit my friend, Tina, who is sitting with her mother in an end-of life vigil. That time is very special and sacred, but can be a little tedious and exhausting. Tina was in great need of a friend. I took her a small scripture colouring book for women, some coloured pencils and a card and sat with her and her mother for over four hours. The time flew. Tina and I have been friends for about 43 years and I have known her mother that long. Sometimes when there is not much we can do for the people we care about, just being there for them is the best.
  • I picked up my husband and went straight from there to visit my niece, Madi, who has just had a baby. Baby Greyson is gorgeous, and his parents aren't too bad either. I can't wait to scrap a picture of my brother with his first grandchild. He wants to be called Grandude, after Paul McCartney's book.
  • Then I swung by the grocery store to get stuff for our Book Club pot luck, and had my husband drop me at my friend's house so we could go to Book Club together.
  • Then I had Book Club, which went on way too late because we were having loads and loads of fun.

It was a GREAT day - I spent it with wonderful people and got so much done. But boy, do I feel it when I have been busy all day :)

I was going to walk with my friend, Pam, this morning, but my boss called me at 7am and asked if I could work from home for a little while. We have a crisis at work and he needed me to work with some of the clients to get it resolved. So, I have called all the clients I was assigned and brought them up to date on the issue. Some were not there, so I have to call them back.

Wow that does sound like a big day! It is nice to just spend time with people, that time can be so special.

Well, yesterday and today were my parent teacher conferences and I am now done!! I always get so stressed over conferences because I am not a fan of talking to parents. But once I am actually in the conferences they usually go fine. This time all of them went really great!

The rain has finally stopped.. however it is now cold! We are supposed to warm up some this weekend so I am hoping that will happen. I am headed to lunch soon with a friend and then I am off to the lake. Hoping to get more practice with the new long lens and I at least have flood pictures to take. Our marina is in an area that has been pounded with rain so the boats and dock have been pushed out further into the lake and the parking lot is basically under water. (This happens at least one a year, the people at the marina are very good at dealing with the floods.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good morning ladies. Looking forward to a long wkend (in Canada it's Family Day on Monday).

Lynnie -congrats on the baby! What a wonderful name!

Today I have desk work, CT work, have to figure out what to do for dinner (either pick something up or order in, not sure yet) and we'll hang out together tonight and watch some movies on the android box. Maybe Joker. We'll have to check the choices later when he comes home from work.

Busy but quiet day ahead. Tomorrow I head out for the long drive to my grandson's to attend the baby shower and take photos for them. It'll be over 2 hrs on the road which I'm not looking forward to but I'll survive :)

Ane - bet you are having fun on the trip!

Have a great day everyone, I'd better get to work for a bit.

Lynnie - Wow, that sounds like a very long and tiring, but super awesome and fulfilling day! I'd love to be a in a book club IRL.

Rae - That's pretty much what we'll be doing tonight too. I'm not sure what we'll have for dinner yet. I'm usually planned out, but it's Valentine's Day so I'm not sure!

Today I'm working and eating too much chocolate. The kids and I have been making chocolates for the past couple of days! I have a tad bit of a stomachache, haha! Everyone enjoy your day!!

I have to admit that I did enjoy having a day truly off of work. I mean I didn't get in until 5 this morning and then it was so cold in the house. The power was acting up and that meant no heat (and wouldn't it figure that would happen on the coldest day of the year). So needless to say, I didn't sleep well.

The kids were off school today so when I did get up I went to my mom's house and hung out with them. I finally took Kathryn to get the rest of her birthday present (she turned 17 in December but finances didn't allow me to do it then). She wanted a tattoo in memorial of her dog, Jasmine, that passed away last year so I took her today and got it done. It is jasmine flowers between her shoulder blades. My brother is not in agreement with me letting her get a tattoo at 17 but she has thought long and hard about it and since she is a great student, I saw nothing at all wrong with it.

We went out to dinner for Valentine's Day and now I am chilling at the house for a little while before turning in for the night. The gender reveal for my friend's baby is tomorrow and I'm pretty excited about that. She accidentally found out the gender the other day and I correctly guessed it but the party should still be fun.

It was my birthday today. My daughter got me something I don’t even know how to subscribe. She somehow got Bea from the TV show wentworth to record and email a happy birthday greeting to me. It was very personalized, and I did an ugly cry with it. But it was a happy ugly cry. It’s on my fb page as a greeting from alexis if you want to look for it. Then we had yummy birthday cake from Dairy Queen.

She is starting biology 30 (grade 12, government exam at end of it). She got proof of her English 30 mark yesterday and the words Diploma awarded attached to her transcripts. Now she is just taking the sciences she needs to go into for her wanted field of study.

Austin started his second term and is having difficulties, this happens every new term. I think his creative writing teacher did something good, cause is he ever motivated and loving that course. Science has had a sub the entire month and it’s not gone well. The sub took pictures of Austin and only Austin in class last week and with his anxiety it freaked him out. Weird as weird can be.

Beautiful day today.

Good morning, ladies. Not a lot of time online today. I'm heading out to run errands soon, need to wrap up baby shower gifts and will head out to the shower at noon. It's a long drive (over an hour) so will go early, then maybe have time to get a starbucks coffee and read my book.

Sherri - happy belated birthday. What an unusual cool gift.
Dorann - have fun at the party.
Kelley - yep, I've over-indulged too and gotten a stomachache which is always worth it :) But each time I say I won't do it again....and then I do LOL

I'd better get going, need to get Taz out for a walk and then lots to do before heading out to the shower later. Then home tonight for some tv show binging.

Have a good day everyone.

Poking my head back in for the first time in a long time.....how are you all? I took a long hiatus from scrapping because my laptop could no longer handle running the programs I needed to do it. I just got a new laptop on Friday and now I'm up and running again!

My parents have been showing me lots of older photos lately, so I think I might start there and do some family stuff.

Right now I'm at work doing overtime for 5 hours (holiday pay plus time and a half!) so I'm killing time because it is super quiet. :)

Hello Sarah, Welcome back and congratulations on the new computer! I had to upgrade mine as well, I had this tiny little laptop that I loved (that I can still use for work luckily) but it stopped running photoshop and was very cranky in lightroom so it was time. I am getting use to the larger screen (certainly makes editing pictures easier) but it's not so nice to travel with.

Today is a day off from teaching.. so I am currently on my laptop in the Den, with lesson materials circling me as I prep for tomorrow's lessons on Early Humans.

I have some old family photos of my Mom's that I need to scan and scrap while she can still tell me all about them! It's definitely on my list of things to do!

Hi Sarah,

It is so lovely to hear from you. I do hope you get some scrapping in. That is awesome. Give the kids my best and tell them I do think of the lovely day we all spent at Disneyland :)

Glad the job is going well and congratulations on the new laptop :)

Wonderfully busy week - I feel as though something is ALWAYS going on with me.

Monday Worked and in evening taught my graphics class.
Tuesday Worked and in evening I had a zoom call with my writing friends. Worked on book.
Wednesday Worked and in evening I had Bible Study
Thursday Spent morning with Tina, Afternoon with niece Madi and new baby and in evening I had Book Club
Friday was supposed to walk with Pam, but office called and asked me to work.
Saturday, Cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, scrubbed carpet, detailed kitchen, cooked. Worked on my brother's website. Son Steven came down and we hung out, then went back to his place. Spent night at Stevens - hung out with my grandson all evening.
Sunday, Played with Bruce while Steven got stuff done around the house. Bruce took a really long nap and I got some reading done.

There - preserved for my Project 52 :) I have to record it somehow and somewhere so I don't forget, haha.

Well, it was back to the old grind today. The store lasted a little bit longer than I thought it would but it really wasn't all that bad. I did get pretty mad at the puppies this morning. I made the mistake of not putting something away properly and them (being the little 8 month old terrors that they can be at times) chewed it up. I was pretty upset at them but then when I got home from work they looked at me with their sweet eyes and all was forgiven. I am so an animal person and I love all three of my dogs.

Puppies will do that :) Fortunately Belle is much older (11 now) and does not do stuff like that. She is a pretty cool dog.

Good morning ladies. I've got a busy morning with desk work and then will fit in a bit of scrapping time later today. I've got dinner planned (baked italian sausages with veggies and salad). It'll be a nice walk with Taz later as there's no rain predicted today.

Dorann - yes, how can you not forgive puppies for everything :) Seeing their sweet little faces would just melt your heart.

Hey everyone! *waves* We got back from New Orleans last night. I was always way too tired to come here every night. The night parades ran late, but were so fun! We went to 3 sets of Mardi Gras parades and got plenty of SWAG. A lot of it I am giving away because it's just too much. My child weighed all their beads last night and it came to over 23 pounds! We had a ton of fun with my brother-in-law and his family- we wouldn't have known where to go or what to do without them.

Fortunately I have a pretty empty week to recover. Our next project is to adopt a cat! Hubby is not too thrilled but has allowed it to help with mine and child's mental health, among other reasons. We're looking forward to it and have already bought a few cat things in preparation. :)

My poor mum is struggling. Her shoulder hurts all the time, she struggles to stand and she worries about getting old - she is 91. She is bright as a penny and an absolute treasure. I wish I could do more for her.

My dad is 81. He had back surgery and one leg is shorter than the other so he wears a brace. Over time his legs have become weaker and he can barely walk across the room now. He is in a wheel chair but can get up and walk short distances with his walker. Recently he can barely get up the three steps to get into his house with someone helping lift each leg up the steps. So I would say he is mostly homebound unless someone helps him. He still can drive but I'm fearful of that.
He is prone to falling. He lives downstairs from me. And has screamed for me to come help him a few times that he did fall. He can't help himself up so we have to call the EMT for assistance. I don't think I've had a really good night sleep in a while fearing I wouldn't hear him call if he falls.
Getting old does stink. And I have my own ailments too!

It is hard when they get older and we are feeling a few of those years ourselves. Fortunately my husband is here if we need to pick her up. Fortunately that has not happened yet. I worry so much that I won't be up to caring for her when she needs it full time.

First full week by myself since my hubby's surgery and almost full month home with me. It took a few days to get back into the swing of just me here at home. I am shocked to say I miss him being here, I honestly thought hanging out day in day out would be hard, but it was nice to find out we are very compatible together 24/7. Knowing this makes retirement in 4 1/2 years seem too far away. The only thing that suffered was my scrapping time while taking care of him. I spent most idle time researching retirement communities on my phone. Not much help as I'm now more confused then ever as to what type of community will suit our lifestyle at that point.

Ella Rose, I hope your husband recovers well from his surgery. Do all your homework before you make a major change when he does retire.

Back form my absolutley wonderful vacation in Arizona and the sunshine and warmth did not disappoint this Canadian gal. My SIL came with us and we had such fun times with lots of laughs and hubby really enjoyed his 60th birthday!

I am really enjoying the book club read this month...JoyLynn sent me a PDF copy for my Kindle and I was able to pass the time while on route to AZ.

I hope everyone is fine...didn't have time to catch up on the forum. So much to do this weekend before I am back to work.

The weather was bitter when we arrived home but has sinced warmed up. Today is a housework day and tomorrow we are going to my son's place for dinner for hubby and his birthday's.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I live in a retirement community in California and I love it here. Things to look for are the things they have to do and the cost of them, the HOA fees and what those fees cover (ours are high, but they cover insurance, property taxes, repairs on plumbing, electric, appliances, carpet replacements, etc.), transportation, how close are neighbours, rules about who can stay and how long. Eligibility was also a concern - we had to have 2 1/2 times the value of our home in assets before they would consider us and there were move in fees. In some communities you have to purchase your home outright.

It feels rather like we live on a cruise ship, though, and the holiday never ends, there is stuff going n all the time.

Things to get used to: proximity of neighbours, ambulance sirens and the feeling that you are in God's waiting room! We lose friends and neighbours all the time, it is more noticeable because of where we live.

Hi all.
I have a layout I did for Alexis dogsledding in this weeks layout of the week if you want to vote. I’m pleased as I love the up close photo of the lead dog.

More bad news and possibly worse news from her latest doctors appointment, I feel terrible because I was too ill to go with her that day. The doctor was supposed to call today to discuss test results and steps to move forward but no call came.

Austin has had this week off, a terrible time for me to be laid low. School goes back Monday.

Husband is having to work tomorrow and he was worked some insane hours lately. Grumpy as a bear.

Alexis is set up for wisdom tooth removal surgery in March. One day we need to drive to Edmonton for the anesthesiologist consult, a different day the surgeon pre-consult, then the day of the surgery. Those days are long days at least two hours each way plus the appointments and wait times. All on a highway that sucks in winter and is often closed.

Please keep us posted on the medical results. We will keep her in our prayers!

You should post a link

Good morning ladies. Had a busy day yesterday. Went to Costco first thing in the morning, then ran errands, came home to have lunch which was so good. I made tuna sandwiches for hubs and I had salad with beets, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and tuna salad with trader joes everything but the bagel seasoning sprinkled overtop. Taz and I went on a long hike along the river for over an hour in the afternoon. My daughter came over for dinner and a movie. We watched Fractured and liked it. The day flew by. Today we’ll be with Bailey for the afternoon and then I’ll do some CT work as we binge watch some shows tonight. The weekend is never long enough.

I voted for Sherri’s page, what an adventure!

Lynnie...sounds good that everything is bundled into your HOA fees.

Ella...we’re in the same boat. We need to figure out what we’ll do at retirement, it is creeping up and it’s time to start thinking about options.

Welcome back Karen from your trip.

I need another coffee and will read my book a bit before getting on with my day.

Sounds like a tasty day, Rae!!

I had a busy weekend. Husband Rand had bought tickets for Mary Poppins on Saturday and Bolshoi Ballet's Swan Lake (Live on Screen Fathom Event), which was amazing. We watched Sanditon and Vienna Blood last night also, our Sunday night ritual.

Well, we did it. We adopted a cat Thursday night! She's a 2-yr-old all white shorthair named Sugar. She has already made a positive difference in mine and Eren's mental health. I love having her around to talk to and snuggle with. She likes sitting on my lap and snoozing while I am at my computer. She's not at all like our last cat who was scratchy-bitey and needed her own therapist. Layout will be forthcoming as I have already taken several pictures of her to send to Eren at school for a pick-me-up.
