Well, that virus that the world is going crazy over has shown up here. There are currently 6 diagnosed cases in Kentucky. Three of them in a county 30 miles away from here, two of them in my county and one of them in Louisville. Kind of scary I have to admit and the fact that I've had a cold that hasn't wanted to stop isn't doing any favors at all. But I know I will be okay in the grand scheme of things.

Other than that, had a pretty long and frustrating day at work today. The store took longer than it should have and then I was having a lot of problems with technology at the office afterwards while trying to get ready for tomorrow. The direct result of that was it is only Monday and I'm already 12 hours in to the week. Tomorrow I have to travel about 2 hours away for work so that looks to be a pretty long day again. But for the next hour my time is mine.

Stay safe!

So- a bit bummed we are canceling our cruise which was to sail on Saturday.
I know the corona virus is out there, but in my gut...I feel it is a bit of over reaction. Many more are sick with flu and have died.

I don't think we would get so ill, it was more because, if "someone" aboard ship became ill, we are all stuck. We don't have time for that. People have become ill on other ships we've sailed on and there wasn't a 'mandatory' quarantine.

And once you are quarantined, the virus runs wild and infects people exponentially. I have to admit, I am glad you are not doing the cruise. Every time I see the news I think of you. And I agree, not for COVID-19, but for the potential for quarantine.

I had the wrong zipper ( in my stash).... to finish a dress for my granddaughter.
I needed to go to Walmart, and figured I would buy a zipper since there and instead of another stop.
They didn't have any.
The young man working the department says “ we have plenty of Velcro- it’s the same thing. “:36_11_13:

Went to JoAnn fabric. Found a zipper.

My favourite story of the day!

The towels are finished. Shall give them out this evening and scrap the page soon.
m

I am glad you got your sewing machine back and your towels done.

Took the day off - my last vacation day before I retire. I have 9 more working days to go. Thursday is my 'surprise' retirement party. My boss flew out from Maryland for it. He asked me to lunch that day, but I am the graphics artist in the company, so the person in charge of organizing it asked for help - she said it is not fair everyone gets fun stuff except me, haha! She knew I would not mind at all.

I am in my pj's. I have cooked home made lentil soup and am enjoying the day perfectly :)

I can't believe that in 9 days I will have this forever.

Of course, the stock market is such a nuisance. I was planning on taking some out of my 401k to pay off a few bills and what have you. I know it will recover, but the timing is slightly problematic.

Husband Rand and I booked a trip to England in October. How often can you get round trip tickets for $369 from Los Angeles to London on British Airways :) I thought it would be a good time to book. COVID-19 will probably peak at the end of March, beginning of April and we will have snagged good tickets. We are very excited.

We talked to son, James. He is a pastor and large gatherings are no longer recommended where he is, so they are canceling church.

While the sickness is certainly a concern, and people should definitely be careful and follow the guidelines, headlines are blowing everything out of all proportion to get people to read. One of my dearest friends is an infectious disease specialist and she said, pretty much, be smart, be careful, wash your hands a lot and go about life as normal.

In NY, my daughter's college was closed for the rest of the week for an abundance of caution due to Coro Virus scare. Someone on campus was taken to hospital with flu like symptoms. There is Spring break next week and she was told the week after classes will be held via technology.

We went to Walmart tonight for pants for my son who is shooting up. They didn't have what he wanted. But looking around the food shelves looked pretty empty, especially the canned food aisle. Over-reacting or not, it is getting scary!

Yeah I cancelled my Spring Break to NC that was supposed to happen next week. There is too big of a risk of bringing germs back into the house which we are trying not to do with my mom. Her immune system is extremely compromised.. Unfortunately I work at a school and my Dad works at a major hospital/university here so we are both around lots of sickness. It is getting tricky. Several universities around here have stopped in person classes and two of our counties have closed schools for a bit so they can sanitize. We have stocked up the freezer in case it gets too scary for Mom to leave the house.

We are still going away for 11 days soon unless the airlines shut down on us that is. We didn’t get to vacation last year due to my husband getting side swiped by a bus and sent across 4 lanes of traffic. We are all c pretty healthy now and rarely around older people, actually rarely around people in general as we are both introverts me worse then him but both prefer to be home with our little family over other people.

Yay for Retirement!!!! I LOVE it and we stay busy!!! I hope they get pictures for you. Your trip to England sounds lovely and YES on that wonderful price for the airline tickets.

Both daughters are RN. The younger one does Pediatric Oncology so a lot of critical care. They have to keep masks and hand sanitizer under lock and key. They been stolen in the hospital.

At the dentist's office this morning for a cleaning. The hygienist told me her Crest representative was in yesterday and the company cannot get any more dental floss...because it is wrapped in China! Can you imagine!

Finishing a coverup dress for granddaughter today. Scrapping and watching the g'kiddo's.

Stay safe everyone and wash those hands!

Good morning, ladies. The sun is shining but its still pretty chilly out there but I'll bundle up and enjoy a lunchtime walk with Taz. Nothing special planned today, desk work, scrapping, groceries, laundry. I got Hungry Girls 6 ingredients or less cookbook that I want to look at tonight as I watch TV. I need some fast and easy recipes for when I'm busy or just don't feel like cooking much.

Sherri - B is in a single unit with 2 caretakers so her exposure is limited aside from us and the caretakers have shifts at the hospital but are being extremely diligent with hygiene and trying to be as safe as possible. It's always going to be a concern about her health b/c the encephalitis can flare up with sickness/depressed immune system but its out of our hands as to if and when that night happen. None of us are taking her out into the public right now, to be safe. Thx for asking. Sadly, I'm not surprised at the school team's behaviour. One thing I've learned after over 2 yrs of B's care, we can't count on the system to understand and act appropriately in her care. It's been a battle the whole time and I don't think that will change. It just makes me want to bang my head against the wall sometimes. I totally get your anger/frustration. I don't know why it has to be so hard to work with the authorities on her care. One actually said she'll be happy to get out and get her own apartment eventually....ummm.....no....the extent of TBI is not going to heal, not going to improve. Ugh. So....I totally get how you feel. Hugs to you all for what you have to deal with. BTW, the Lynwood facility is close to us and a family friend works there. Too close to home for sure.

Michi - that sucks about the cruise. I agree, you don't want to take a chance on getting guarantined on the ship. We were thinking of taking a trip for a week next month, a train trip across the US but we'll wait til next year now. I had a laugh about the velcro LOL.

Lynnie - wow, just a few more days. I'm so jealous. Hubs keeps talking about how he really wants an early retirement so not sure how long he will make it. The only thing that keeps him going is knowing how he is building up his pension pay by continuing to work right now. I'm guessing a year is about how long he'll last but we'll see, he may surprise me and last 2 yrs. I want to reduce to part time and continue working at that point but who knows. Wow, what a great price for a trip! We can't go anywhere from her for that price unfortunately.

LilyAnn - our Walmart is looking bare too. I'm going over later today as not sure if I will get what I need.

Elynnia - hope you all remain germ free. We have to be careful too because of germs around Bailey and my hubs works with healthcare (hospitals/carehomes) and restaurants every day so he is very high risk of germs.

Ella - really hope you enjoy your holiday soon. You deserve it!

I'd better go get some desk work done so I can get out for a break in the sunshine soon. Enjoy your day, everyone!

My week so far has been pretty low-key. The toilet paper hoarding has finally reached my area. I think people are nuts about this, personally. Of course we should be careful, wash our hands and so forth, but buy all the TP? It doesn't make any sense. DOes it make sense to anyone else?

Parent-teacher conferences were supposed to be held tomorrow. We got emails saying that they are not holding in person conferences. We are to call each teacher at our assigned time which we signed up for a few weeks ago via on line registration to discuss our child's progress. This stuff is getting ridiculous.

Oh that’s the worst. As a teacher I can say I would hate to have to have my conferences on the phone..! I’m not a social person per say but I rely on reading body language and being able to have enough back and forth that things are getting across.. That does not sound fun!

Our school is still running normally but we are going to start checking temps when they come in first thing and we have been extra careful bout cleaning. Our youngest class starts at 2 months so we are trying our best to keep all the germs at bay!

OMG...toilet paper hoarding has reached my area as well...I am close to out as I have not done a big shop in awile...hope they restock soon. LOL!

Sherri: Alexis will be home soon, Lucky girl...Austin will find his way, keeping cheering for him for noone else does.

Michi: Glad you have your towels done, waiting patiently for the LO...bummer about your cruise but better to be safe.

Lynnie: Congrats, so happy for you! We are booked for England for September...not as cheap as you though. We paid $650 round trip from Canada whcih is a pretty great deal in tiself.

A little concerned with the virus with my son planning to go to Japan in April...hoping things stabalize by then! He has looked into all the cancellation info and will be refunded however he is starting school again for a 2 year program and will not have an opportunity to go for quite awhile. Other son is going to NYC with the family in May.

Stay safe my scrappy friends!

I read an interesting article on the psychological reasons behind TP panic. People are afraid they will be confined for a period of time and they go to the store to stock up on things. People take a package of toilet paper because they know they will need it. Toilet paper packages are big, so the shelves empty more quickly. People see shelves emptying quickly and think there is a shortage and start taking more, creating panic. It is a vicious cycle.

I am fortunate in that I accidentally overordered before the virus and have a few full cases here. If anyone needs it desperately, let me know and I will mail you some :)

The owner of our company is a little concerned about the spread of the virus and has closed down our offices completely. Everyone is working from home. I only have 8 more working days - so it will be a bit of a let down when my last day arrives. The office had a 'surprise' retirement party for me tomorrow. Sadly, they have canceled it. The owner of the company called to let me know personally. He felt so bad, but felt it was the best thing. He has employees all over the world and they will all be working from home. We have a few admin staff that they have not sorted out how to get working from home yet. they have too much associated paperwork. I am going into the office tomorrow to have some cake with them, since the cake has to be picked up and paid for anyway. I will pick up the rest of my stuff at the same time.

I also have a friend whose daughter was traveling in Europe. We initially thought she would not be able to get back, after the President's announcement of the travel ban. It turns out that US Nationals can return, but they have to self-quarantine for 14 days. She is in the UK. I think she is coming back from there, so she might not have been restricted anyway. To be honest, I think the ban may extend to the UK soon. They already have 400+ cases there and the number is rapidly increasing. I am a little concerned about my son, his village has many older people. My grandson, Luke, has been hospitalized twice with chest infections. He has not been able to get better, so if the virus reaches their town, there are some concerns for his health.

LOL! I am praying that your family will be well with all this turmoil with the virus.

Sorry to hear of your cancelled retirement party. Take comfort in knowing that I am cheering you on into retirement all the way from Canada with a huge silly hat and party blowers wishing you a very Happy Retirement!

The madness has reached a whole new level here. There have been a grand total of 9 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky and yet today our governor called for all schools to be closed for at least 2 weeks starting on Monday. So my kids are actually going to be out of school until the 6th of April (two weeks because of the school closings) and then the week of spring break.

Unfortunately, Kathryn's trip to New York City has at the minimum been postponed which really stinks, she was looking so forward to it. But, she is using some of her spend money that she had saved to get herself a pet rabbit. One of her classmates in the Agriculture wing is selling them and she is so excited about it. I know that we don't need another pet but then again I do think she deserves it since her dog, Jasmine, died last year.

Well yesterday Manitoba has the first 3 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and another presumed case this morning. Hoping we don't have a large spread here. I read that Saskatoon, SK is testing a antibiotic and hopefully it will be successful in assisting this terrible virus.

I am off today...getting my microwave fixed, off to the dentist for my annual check-up and cleaning and then to yoga tonight. Hoping to have some time later to do some crafting. Have a few birthday cards to make and want to dive into my Arizona book.

Hoping everyone is staying safe from the virus and enjoy the weekend coming up!

Just saw "Survivor" posted...so EXCITED! :yell

Good morning everyone. I just signed up for Survivor....can't wait to get started! It'll be my first one.

We went to the movies last night and usually there would be a few hundred people there (8 theaters in one) but there were about 15 people that we saw. There might have been a few more but not many. Our theater had 3 other people aside from us. The theatre is one of my husband's accounts for work and he had been there early in the day. He said almost all staff stayed home and no one was there for an afternoon matinee. Our grocery stores are getting emptied out fast. No TP or sanitizer anywhere. My husband's work sells sanitizer to restaurants/hospitals/carehomes and they are completely out and backordered until late April and they are prioritizing sales for hospitals/carehomes only. Employees were given 2 bottles each, that's all we can get. I've got to go get a few groceries today so not sure what I'll find when I get there. I'm going to head over this morning. I'm pretty sure no TP but hopefully a few other essentials.

I'm going to charge my camera batteries, head out very early tomorrow morning to the bird sanctuary and spend some quiet time taking photos and just relaxing.

Lynnie - so sad you won't get your retirement party. What is the last day of work for you?

Who else is doing survivor? Do we start up our own alliances? Not sure how this all works. I signed up this morning tho so got that done and will wait to see what we need to do next.

I signed up for Survivor too! My first time participating. I've been watching from afar for a few years. Never had time to design and scrap at the same time. But now that I'm not designing I can't wait to have some FUN!

With Corona Virus... both jobs are still status quo!

Daughters college is off next week for Spring Break than on line after that. For how long we're not sure.

Today just found out that son's school will be closed Monday and Tuesday for thorough cleaning and giving the teacher time to work on a contingency plan in case the school should close down long term. All the students already have school issued iPads so that definitely should help in converting to digital if need be.

On line teacher conferences had some snags but I got to talk with all but two I had scheduled. I think it was because the system was overloaded or the teachers didn't stop the prior "meeting" with the four minutes. Hey, I think it worked pretty well considering the short notice!

Lynnie, I am sorry to read that you may not have a proper celebration to send you off to retirement.

The Corona Virus is having a big impact throughout the world. It is going to greatly affect all the economy. so many countries depend on tourists for a lot of their income.

Well, I have signed up for Survivor. I felt I am not really worthy of being in the Wafflers Alliance as I do not really do much waffling so I have started my own alliance.

Lily Ann... I am sure you will enjoy all the fun and challenges.

I signed up for Survivor too, so excited! I am also officially on Spring Break. My school has extra care days for half of next week but I don't have to be there. I plan to be outside and away from people!

We have had several major accounts to pull out for this cycle so it means that the next several weeks could be difficult for me financially. My kids are now off of school for the next three weeks (two weeks due to virus panic and one week for spring break). They are going to have to be doing some distance learning and since I still owed them computers from Christmas I went ahead and ordered those today both because I had promised them the computers and also because of the fact that they will need them for their school work.

I still don't know what the next few weeks are going to hold for me, but I am going to do the best I can with what I have, there just really isn't any other option.

:shhCan we be in two alliances?????
I cannot remember - does that happen in the TV show?

You have waffled enough to be in the Wafflers' Alliance :) Of course you have - there is no 'worthy' about it. I think last time I spent a lot of time managing the alliance and it was not easy. It is fun doing it for your waffling friends, but there were quite a few people I did not really know. You, and all the folks here, I know well enough.

Lilyann- we loved our pet bunnies. My daughter still has hers, he is a senior at 12 years old. Please post a pic

dorann - our parent teachers were outright cancelled. No alternate contact at all. (I know Austin’s team)

lynnie - sorry about the retirement being cancelled .... party that is

route66 - alberta isn’t cancelling school at over 20 cases. I’d feel better if it was, simply because both alexis and I are high risk of complications

rae - hope B stays safe and healthy. can you teach me how to put the lotw blinkie in my siggy? Id love to see where you sit to take your pics. Be a bird or squirrel and take one from their perspective please. I have such a hard time visualization

alexis elective surgery to extract her wisdom teeth is put off for a bit. No one is sure how next week is going to be. She if high risk for any surgery. But high risk if hospitals are stretched wouldn’t be good.

Its cold here and snowing ick bring on warmer temps

our prime ministers wife came back from the uk with COVID-19. Our prime minister is isolated and working through the crisis at home.

A friend from the states flew to ireland today with his wife for a holiday. I think he is nuts. His ward has had both a heart transplant and kidney transplant. She stayed in States, but still. I think her mom (my friend) is rolling in her grave.

i signed up for survivor need to do the avatar thing, siggy thing, and reread everything. It’s so fun and I loved our alliance.

I got my hair cut yesterday. Shorter than I normally go, and I love it.

My favourite Canadian artist is in my city this weekend. We will be heading over to see his work.

One of my oldest friends passed yesterday. His son just a bit older than alexis found him. He has struggled with diabetes for years. That typical overweight trucker eating all the wrong foods. He had a heart bigger than life itself and was the biggest ginger teddy bear.

Please forgive me me if I mixed up names and stories. My memory makes it hard. Especially when I’m tired. And as I have insomnia (as I’m still awake at 4:36)

Life is strange here. I know I don't post much, but I read most everything. I hope everyone is doing okay. We just got our first case of the virus here in Idaho yesterday. I had a decision to make a week ago to go to the Seattle area for my granddaughter. The only place we went was the Temple with her. We were only there two days and stayed in my daughter's house. It is amazing the things we take for granted in our lives. Some of the family went to the park, we did not go because of our age and health. If the country is shut down here in the states, we can get a lot of scrapping done.

Like I said, I haven't posted here before, but I'd love to get to know some others around GS better.
I've been having a really tough time scrapping lately. I completely my 10 challenges last month, but it was the first time in months that I have. I just don't have any idea where my mojo has gone. I collect the challenges every month, with all good intentions, but I just don't get them done. I look at my pictures and the ideas don't come to me. The sky has been so gloomy here and now with this virus thing taking over EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE...
I'm from Lakeville, MN. Been scrapping forever, rock, paper, scissors era. Then photo albums with clever journaling, Stampin' Up, Creative Memories and finally digi in about 2008 and never looked back. I love the versatility. Went to PSE about three years ago. Love it. I CT for several designers, but mostly behind-the-scenes, manager, promo stuff. Married, 38 years, two daughters, three grands, still working full-time for the local school district. That's me.
I'll try to go back now and get to know some more of you.
