I’m just wondering if anyone is still here? I am making an attempt at making things from scratch and I need recipe ideas!!!

what should I have for a well stocked pantry?

I “liked this post” but I’m no help. I only have a kitchen because it came with my house. 😂

Ha ha ha!! That would be me too, but I have to take control now. I have a hubby with high cholesterol and I have high BP and triglycerides, and the kiddo is eating like a toddler still.

You need bakeware if you plan on baking goodies for your family. I also recommend that you purchase 2-3 sets of food storage containers. I also recommend purchasing baking sheets, because baked meat is many times healthier than fried or boiled meat. You will also need a multicooker, a blender to cook fresh juices, you need good knives, an electric meat grinder. It all depends on what you plan to cook.

If you mean ingredients you'll want to keep flour on hand (whatever kind you have used most often in the past), corn starch, baking powder, butter, olive oil, vegetable oil, salt, sugar, your favorite spices, maybe some canned veg or fruits.

As to what to cook, check out some cookbooks from the library or nose around online for recipes that appeal to you, then you'll make your list of ingredients to buy.

What is your situation - did you buy a new house and you're stocking it up, or are you wanting to learn to cook new things, or changing to a different kind of diet and not wanting to cook your old faves, or maybe just interested in what everyone else cooks? You've piqued my interest!

hehe
Thank goodness I already had my coffee...or I'd be cleaning the computer keys right now

I use pinterest for a lot of my recipes. Since COVID started my spice cabinet is busting at the seams. We love turkey chili made with black beans and kidney beans all from scratch...not packets any more. Skinny chicken parm, grilled chicken with mixed veggies also cooked on grill. I will be back in a bit to share some ideas. I am on weight watchers and eating healthier plus we just like eating healthier. My kids LOVE grilled veggies...their fav is broccoli and cauliflower. We also do a mean stir fry with zucchini and squash that they love.

Chili: I use ground turkey instead of beef. I also use Kidney beans and black beans.

Chicken marinade

We make this with chicken breasts. Then make a bowl with tin foil for veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots (it is called Normandy blend in our frozen food section at Costco), we also grill corn on the cob

Skinny Chicken Parm

On this one I cook the chicken ahead of time with Italian dressing/seasoning to give it some flavor
I also had extra tomato sauce/marinara bc we like a lot of sauce

Chicken fried rice

We sometimes just do the fried rice, grill the chicken and shrimp marinated in Teriyaki sauce. We also sauté zucchini and squash with some soy sauce and sesame oil

We make chicken tacos as well with carb smart tortillas.

These are some of our favs... :)

The internet is definitely your friend if you want recipe ideas. If you can't find a recipe for it, it's probably not worth making.

Cooking from scratch is the only way I know how. If you're going to stock a pantry, only buy the things you know you are going to use more or less immediately. I'm very good at buying things because "I saw a recipe that needed that" then not being able to find the recipe again. ;-)

Another good option is to save interesting recipes so as not to lose them and then not figure out where to put the purchased products.

I like to eat healthy too, but I was so tired to search for recipes all the time, or cooking the same meals over and over that I subscribed to Hello Fresh. I get all the ingredients for 5 meals every week, all healthy and balanced. And most of all, it is delicious!

Cool, simple. I make a selection of healthy recipes for myself to eat in a balanced and healthy way.

I also subscribe to HelloFresh! and hubby and I really like it. I often get free boxes to gift to others (you do have to give them a credit card and I think they only deliver to the continental United States). But if anyone is interested in getting a free box code, just PM me and I'll hook you up! :)

Hubby and I have been focused on our health for the past year+ and we've each have lost weight. Combined, we've lost 270 lbs. We've cut out sugar and carbs and focus on protein and eating smaller portions. My go-to dish to make for myself right now is Shakshuka! You can google and find a bunch of recipes. It has eggs for protein, tomatoes and peppers for a nice crunch, and I add some fun pepper blends for a delicious spice.
