C'mon, let's finish the year strong! :)

Welcome to the Spicy Motivators! Come and join us to be motivated:

" You might need encouragement in exercising more (that’s me). You might want to do more walking. You might need encouragement to eat healthier or lose some weight. Your desire might be to cook more home cooked meals. Maybe you need some push to get more memory pages scrapped or maybe a desire to do more other crafts like sewing, yarn crafts or painting. You might like to set yourselves a monthly goal of how many challenges you want to take part in... or how many pages you want to achieve for an album you are putting together. "

You are welcome to start a post to share your goals and edit to add when you achieve things. Otherwise just pop in here at the end of each week and share how your week has been in achieving your goals.

Also, please feel welcome to ask for any encouragement you may need.

Thank you Ane for keeping us motivated.

I will continue to do some form of exercise each day and eating healthier. All this is starting to show progress as my summer clothes ( early spring here so winter woollies are being packed away) are loose on me.

Oct 5 - Thanks for your support Ane. WTG A-M! Isn’t that the BEST feeling? I just bought a pair of jeans… a size smaller! WOOHOO!

As I mentioned, I really, really love my temp office, which was proven again last week when we all went out for dinner together. (all of us who could) SigOthers included! Freddy had the best time! I “bribed” him to go by saying that I was buying so he didn’t have to cook. Hehehe. He was all for that, but he ended up not wanting to leave. The pizza was great and it was a craft brewery, which is right up his alley. I fell in love with my office-mates even more as I got to know their private lives better. Go figure! Now I really don’t want to move.

Celebrated World Card-Making Day yesterday by playing with paper and online friends ALL DAY! Lacy (oldest DD) was supposed to come over in the afternoon to play with me but she came down with a nasty head cold and stayed home. (for which I was silently grateful) I watched the video we were going to watch together so I could prep for when we get together later. She is going to LOVE this kit.

Looking forward to a great week.

Take care!
Love and Blessings!

OK, I'm going to have to kick myself in the bum; you two are amazing! I have not done much of note the past week. I didn't exercise and I didn't read for fun, although the book I had to read for school was somewhat enjoyable. But I did complete my homework as of a little while ago.

Anne-Marie, you have loose clothes--that is awesome! Good work on eating healthy and exercising. I should take a leaf from your book! :)

Carla, You are sneaky to bribe your hubby to go to dinner with you--that must have been a fantastic place for him to want to stay! I'm glad you had fun making cards with friends all day yesterday. I remember celebrating that "holiday" back when I made cards. <3

Oct 12 - Good place, good food and good people to hang around with! Freddy really enjoyed himself and they really enjoyed him. They all asked about him the next day. I love my new/temp digs. Whether it means I’ll be able to stay or not, I don’t know, but I’ve heard rumors (from the contractor) that they may not do any renovations on the district office until next summer. If that doesn’t happen, there’s nowhere over there for me to be. So I hope that’s true and they leave me where I’m at!

This upcoming week is supposed to be one of my alt-schedule weeks off, but I actually ASKED my boss if I could reschedule and work because I am so far behind. Usually we do some kind of family vacation for part of this week because Th-F is our state education convention, but Kolten is playing football this year and will be playing his final game Wednesday night so we changed plans because he can’t miss that and we don’t want to miss it. Then last week, they asked me if I could come in for a couple hours to train some people on Wed anyway. I figured why not ask if I could flex all three days. They haven’t answered yet. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow morning, when I finish my bagel. LOL

Take care!
Love and Blessings!

WTG, Carla and Grace! :)

I've been doing a little better at exercise (Friday and Monday) but I may not get any in today. I have to finish this book by tomorrow. Early, because I'm going out with some friends later in the day. I am getting my homework done on time, but not getting any time to read for fun. Seems like my hobbies have gone to the wayside, maybe until I finish school (I hope not).

Y'all have a great week! :)

Oct 19 - I’m sorry you’re running so far behind, dear Ane. I’m sure you’ll catch up with everything. It’s hard when your studies are taking up so much time, but it’s so worth it!

Not much new or different here. I did work three days last week and then we had our teacher convention Thu-Fri so it was a long weekend anyway. I went to play with some GFs on Saturday and that was amazing. Got a lot of cards done that were started, but not complete. I needed cardstock or embellishments, whatever and those got finished. That felt good. I packed very efficiently. I’m learning in my old age. HA!

Take care!
Love and Blessings!

Carla, I'm glad you got to play last week. Sometimes I miss crafting with my hands and I'm glad you get to. I guess maybe playing the clarinet counts, doesn't it?

I was horrible with exercise last week. Only 1 day. But I did get all my homework done. The book we had to read for last week was an interesting one, so I'm going to count it as reading for fun. :) This is the last week of class. Then I have a week off before the next one, so I'm going to read the book club book and hopefully do some scrapping.

Nov2/Oct 26 - We were out of town last weekend with the kids; Lacy and Nick. Adults only weekend. WHAT FUN! We have never done that and it was wonderful, even though it was just two days. So relaxing, out of the city. Missed the fall colors by “that much” but it was still pretty. Lacy, Nick and I got to go Christmas shopping and Freddy got to see his fishing buddies. We went out to dinner at one of our favorite spots to celebrate Nick and Lacy’s anniversary and just being together.

OF course clarinet counts. Anything that isn't work and makes you happy counts, Ane! Glad you got your homework done though. That's really gotta be your priority right now so don't beat yourself up about exercise. I'm lucky just to stand up from my desk and do my little bit of movement.

In health news! I found out last week that I have cataracts. Oh joy. Well, at least there's a reason my left eye is so fuzzy! Here I thought my eye-doc just couldn't get it right. I really was kinda ticked. Turns out I was right to be ticked. She said I had the beginning of cataracts, but surgery was a long ways off. Well, if it was a long ways off, why didn't she tell me that the only reason that she couldn't correct my vision was because of the cataract. So, the new eye-doc, who specializes in eye surgery and Lasik, etc. said that exactly. That's why I went in. Because I am just sick and tired of contacts and I have some "fun" money left from Mom & Dad. (before retirement) Good news is that my insurance will pay for the cataract surgery and the "fun" money will pay for the lens replacement I've decided to have. Now I AM EXCITED! No more contacts!

Spent yesterday with sixty-two women, for seven hours (including a break for lunch), making sixteen cards. SUCH fun. Most were Christmas cards, but some were birthday or thank you, or you could wander around to different tables and stamp with other stamps if you wanted something else.

Take care!
Love and Blessings!

Carla, that's great that you're having so much fun! We could all use a little bit more of that in our lives. Let's see--adults only fun huh? Does a weekend with hubby which includes service, a tailgate, and a college football game count? I'm counting down to that--2 1/2 weeks away! But cataracts, ugh! I take it that's why you got a new eye doc? That would tick me off too! But soon you'll have new eyes. That's pretty cool. ;)

Been slacking a little on exercise in, but I'm getting my practicing in. Started a new class yesterday and have plenty of reading homework. It's political philosophy with a dash of economics. Oh, and I got an A in my last class, so I got to keep my 4.0. That's pretty awesome but wouldn't have been possible without divine assistance. <3

I haven't been on the forums in SO long (my siggy is so old lol), but I'm back and am excited to see this thread! I need and love peer accountability! :D

I have a lot of things I want to do and work on, but I'm trying to keep it simple so I can see little wins daily:

1. Focus on my hunger and fullness cues and only eat when I feel hunger and stop when I feel satisfied. This is as opposed to what I normally do, which is eat whenever I feel like it, until I'm very full because I love food.
2. Work on my blog/website - I'm trying to figure out what I want to do to share my scrappy creations because Etsy terminated my shop for some reason. I have had the shop for several years, and everything on it was hand created by me. I went to log in a couple of weeks ago and found it said I had violated policy and I could not appeal. I've heard it happen to many people, so I have decided I just want to create my own site so that I can still share & sell my creations.
3. Make at least 1 scrapbook page per week.

Nov 9 - Not specifically why I got a new eye doc, Ane. I’ve been interested in Lasik for a couple years. I’ve just been SO tired of dealing with contacts and a really good friend just had lens replacement. I decided, what the heck. Go in for a consult with his surgeon and see what they say. Well they said that lens replacement was a much better option for me than Lasik due to the cataracts. My insurance will pay for the cataract surgery portion so that’s something.

I am SO THRILLED that you did so well in your last class! I had no doubt, but that was a TOUGH one! Political philosophy and econ ought to be interesting, especially in today’s climate.

Totally here you Kelly! It’s taken me years to listen to my stomach. I actually heard something the other day that was fascinating and I’ve been “practicing” it ever since… and it actually sort of makes sense! You really need to stop eating the minute you find yourself taking a heavy sign. Yeah, no kidding. Mind you, you have to be aware of doing it, but once you are, you find it’s the truth! I was quite stunned because I often sit back for a minute and sigh and then dig right back in, but find only a second later that I’m not hungry anymore. Wow! So that sigh is telling me that I’m done? Who knew? I can’t remember why it was, but I’ve been trying it since and it’s almost always correct.
I’m so sorry about your shop. That must be heartbreaking. Do you think maybe someone saw something they “thought” was a copyright infringement and reported you? People are so mean and it’s so hard to fight that stuff. And the “parent” companies are sometimes so unreasonable about it.
When you figure out about creating those scrapbook pages, will you let me know! I have gotten SO out of that habit, I don’t know if I even know how to use PSE anymore. It makes me sad to even think about it. I used to be able to whip out a page in a couple hours and now I just know it would take me days! LOL

My new office/craft desk arrived last Tuesday. I paid for assembly because I knew that neither Freddy nor I would be able to accomplish that feat! LOL!!! Too many pieces, too much down on the floor, bending over, strain. Uh-uh… But it’s beautiful and being FILLED with card-making and scrapbooking “crap” as we speak! HAHAHAHAHA! OMG, what a chore. You will NOT be seeing the before pix. It looks like Hurricane Carla hit the back bedroom and Cat 5 force winds. It could take years to rebuild. Send in the Marines. Pray for us.

Take care!
Love and Blessings!

Hi Kelley, and welcome to the Spicy Motivators! I think food goals are the hardest to work on and achieve. Kudos to taking it on and I wish you success! That's so weird that Etsy could do that to you for no reason and don't allow appeal. Good luck setting up your blog/website! There are a lot of platforms one can work with that have e-commerce attached, as I'm sure you're finding. Having a scrapping goal is awesome too. I haven't scrapped in a few months and I feel something missing. But I'm also a busy MA student who volunteers, so my time is limited. May have to wait until my degree is finished!

Carla, I hear you about the contacts. I've been wearing them for almost forty years, and since I wear them, I need an array of reading glasses too. SO why not wear my regular glasses full time? The weight. I am probably legally blind, my vision is so bad. I am glad that you are going to have your lenses replaced. It really does sound like a good option for you. Does it last longer than LASIK? My first week of class has been interesting, though the prof has been mysteriously absent so far. I had her before and she was pretty engaged, so I am curious. So is your new craft desk/table going to function as your kitchen table too? It sure sounded as it you needed something new.

I am not getting as much exercise as I want, but I did get some last week when I raked leaves on Friday. I also got some today, from walking to and from the church building twice. I also talked to a couple of my brothers last week, when I woke up from a strange dream about my mom. I had to call and check on her, and she doesn't answer her phone often. She was fine, fortunately. I just completed all my homework a little while ago and I even read for fun a little. I should probably add scrapping to my list too!

Carla - Thank you for that idea about the sigh!! I've never heard that, but I'm definitely interested. I think I've been doing a good job paying attention to my hunger and fullness cues for the most part, but its weird how sometimes I just kind of go through the motions and then realize after eating that I just ate because it was suppertime or whatever and completely forgot to assess my hunger first. It will take practice I'm sure. I'll try paying attention for the sigh and let you know what I find!

As far as Etsy, I'm sad about it because I have put so much work into creating the actual listings and tags and everything. I can't say I'm too surprised though because I've seen so many horror stories of people who had shops a lot longer than I did getting banned suddenly. I really have had mixed views on Etsy for a while. I love supporting handmade businesses and small business in general, and Etsy is such a convenient avenue to find those people. However, I've heard so many stories of Etsy treating their sellers poorly and hate that part of it. So I guess I'm happy to move on - just don't know if I want to sell on my own blog/website using Shopify or if I want to try to join a store or something. We will see! I'm so busy that trying to do yet another thing is a bit overwhelming!

It's sad when you get out of practice with scrapping. I think the key is to detach yourself from the result at first - just scrap anything! In the past when I haven't had mojo, I find recipe challenges or even a quickpage motivating just to get scrapping mojo in motion.

Ane - Isn't that strange when you have vivid dreams about loved ones? I've definitely had similar things happen where I really just felt the need to check on someone even though I knew I was dreaming. I find dreams fascinating and so, so weird!

Thank you so much for the welcome!! I totally understand having limited time and having to put scrapping aside for the time being. I have been digital scrapbooking since 2010, and I've had several extended breaks just due to life circumstances. I never stopped "wanting" to scrap in theory, but sometimes other things use up all the energy, right?! With Etsy, I don't know. Maybe I did break a policy that I'm unaware of, but I'm just totally unsure how that is possible since I hand-create all my own items (they are digital, but I draw elements with Procreate, paint/photograph/extract, or create in Photoshop. I definitely don't steal others' work. Oh well, it is a sign to move on!! It is not a huge deal as far as income because I never worked consistently enough on my shop to get a lot of sales. It was more of a creative outlet for me and a place to share my creations.

I think you are right that food goals are sometimes the hardest to stick to. For me, that and exercise. When I had an active job, it was easy getting in my steps and movement because I was literally paid to move around haha. Now my job is sitting on the sofa on my computer, so putting in that effort is difficult sometimes! My favorite form of exercise currently is dancing, and I mean that very loosely! I just take breaks from work, put a song on Spotify, and dance around when no one is home or in the room!!

Nov 16/17 - I have never liked glasses. Started wearing them in grade school and hated them. Got into contacts as soon as I could. I’ve always liked them except for the fact that I have allergies and they get funky during the spring and fall. No biggie, but annoying. And yes Ane, LAL is essentially permanent. I said, “so until I’m gone?” and the doc said, “yup!” That’s assuming that everything does go well, which we are going to assume. lol.

I’m glad you like your new class and prof. Makes it so much easier to study!

NO… My new desk is in a new ROOM!!! WOOHOO!!! I will actually have an official office/craft room! I took over the grands old bedroom, down the hall. They don’t sleep over anymore or if they do, they sleep anywhere. I think I may actually create a scrapbook page about this! I took pictures of the move because it was a chore and the room looked like Cat 5 Hurricane Carla had hit! Cleanup hasn’t even finished yet, but there has been progress since last week. I finally feel somewhat comfortable in there. I really need to get my futon moved in so that I can put some of the old stuffed animals on there to make me not feel so “alone”. HOW silly is that?!? HAHAHA! But then I think Harley might come in and sit there with me too.

Made the down-payment for my eyes so it’s a real thing! EEEK! What a schedule! This is going to be a two month thing. Wow. I started a couple weeks ago with the exam. I have a virtual visit with a nurse this week, another one with the surgeon next week. Surgery one my left eye on 12/4, right eye on 12/4, then follow-up visits almost weekly until 2/3/26 for laser adjustments and check up to make sure that I can see correctly first, and that nothing is “wrong” second. Holy moly, Rocky!

Take care!
Love and Blessings!
Carla

I am sorry not to keep up with everyone here.

Hi Kelley, I hope you achieve your goals.

I have been doing well with my Youtube exercises and fairly good at my eating healthily. There is only the odd day I do not do my indoor walking/exercising.

Ane, Thankyou for looking after this group.

Carla, I have never liked glasses either. I refused to wear them at school when I very obviously needed them (I developed coping mechanisms). I finally got contacts in 9th grade, and that opened up the world to me. But I learned a while ago that I needed glasses as backups, and now I wear reading glasses, so they're a part of my life. But I don't have to like them! I am glad you're getting your eyes fixed for you. That's exciting stuff! I'm glad you get a whole room for your crafting empire. I have a friend who crafts, so if I ever feel the need, I can call her up and visit her craft basement. She also has a garage full of power tools (she had a wood-crafting business).

Anne-Marie, you visit when you can. I am glad you are doing well with your exercise. And it is my sincere pleasure to look after this group for you.

I haven't been doing so well with my exercise. I went to the gym Friday, and raked leaves on Wednesday and Thursday. But I have been keeping up with my homework and my volunteer work. So all is well here. :)

Nov 23/24 - Finally sorta getting used to my new space. NOTHING is where it’s “supposed to be and it’s kinda driving me nutz, but I’m starting to figure it out again. I made a couple cards this weekend.
Freddy and I had a funeral yesterday. sigh…
Lacy’s doing Thanksgiving. All we have to bring are pies, green bean casserole and rolls.
Life is good!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Take care!
Love and Blessings!

Carla, you'll get your new space figured out. Take your time and have fun with it! :) Lucky you not having to make a ton of stuff for Thanksgiving! I make the pies and cranberry sauce, hubby does everything else. But this year, everyone is helping!

I don't think I worked out once last week, but this week so far I'm golden, lol. Got all my homework finished too (gotta cram that in sometime this week).

Everyone have a wonderful week! :giggle:

Nov 30 - True, true. Lacy is a wonderful hostess and she absolutely loves doing it so I’m very grateful for that. She’s having all of us for Christmas too. The feast was amazing! The house was FULL! And the food was TOO MUCH. The apps were almost so delicious that I couldn’t eat dinner, which was fine because we had leftovers last night. I love Thanksgiving leftovers.
Now it’s time to get ready for Christmas. Thankfully we really don’t have much to do. We don’t buy gifts for the grown-ups anymore… just stocking stuffers and Kolten wants money again. So that’s going to be finding another clever way to “wrap the cash”. Last year I sent him on a scavenger hunt around the house. I don’t think I’ll be able to top that, but I don’t just want to hand him a wad of cash. I’ll have to look up some ideas online. Unless any of you have something clever to help me out!

Take care!
Love and Blessings!
Carla

I'm glad you had a great Thanksgiving, Carla! And that Lacy is hosting Christmas too. She must be quite the hostess! If only I was, LOL! I think everyone had a good time here, except for my granddaughter giving everyone her cold (it's not a light one, either). One way you can wrap the cash is a money lei--chances are you can figure out how to do this with a google search. Another way is to wrap each bill in its own layer of plastic wrap, so you end up with a giant ball of plastic wrap and cash.

I have fallen off my exercise because of my recently diagnosed sciatica. I'm doing exercises for it I found online, from friends, and from the doctor though, so I guess those could count. I won't really know what I can do until I go to physical therapy. I've been keeping up with my homework. Except for 1 assignment, the reading has been pretty light. Of course, I say that now . . . I do have a research project at the end of term and I'm probably supposed to be reading for that. And reading for fun hasn't happened at all. I hope I get a break at the end of term so I can re-read my book for book club. I'm hosting.

I can't believe this year is almost over, just flew by! I'm sorry I haven't been as active these last few months, but I've been incredibly busy. Yesterday I started looking for some Christmas cushions, and I couldn't find them. I was sure I'd put them away with all my Christmas decorations, but I found tablecloths, chair covers, etc., but not the cushions. Finally, I decided to look in some boxes. Some were at the top of the wardrobe, and I had to make a real effort to get them down. I did find the cushions, but my back hurts so much that even sitting down, it hurts when I move. So next year I'll try to incorporate some tai chi to strengthen my back muscles, and I'll remember to put the cushions away with everything else for Christmas. It's always good to be organized, things are easier to find that way. I hope you all are doing well, merry Christmas ladies! 🎄

Dec 7/14/21 - Oh darn. I’m sorry that I’ve been absent here. Well okay, I did have my eye surgeries so there’s that. HA! Could be the reason I haven’t responded in the last several weeks.
Lacy is an AMAZING hostess and she loves it.
Both surgeries went amazingly well. I think I said that over on the main wafflers page. I was pretty out of it during the left one, but I was MUCH more aware during the right one. I remember talking to the doctor almost the entire time. The surgery only takes about 15 minutes. WOW! It just flies by. The whole thing takes about two hours but it’s prep that takes all the time. I guess I’m glad about all their care. They’re very meticulous. My left eye is healing very well and my eyesight is quite good. The right is still a bit fuzzy/foggy, but feeling fine.
Other than that, not much going on. Lacy, Nick, Kolten, Fred and I went to a concert called Candlelight and Strings. It was just wonderful. So peaceful and calm. Two violins, a viola and a cello, in a small venue of about 150-200 surrounded by flickering candles. (really cool battery operated, realistic candles)
And we’re done with school for winter (argh!!!) Christmas Break. Two weeks this year for the first time in quite a while. It’s going to be very quiet for us, as usual. Just me, Freddy, Lacy, Nick, and Kolten, although they have two littles in foster care with them for a bit. Not sure how long, but at least for Christmas. 2 years and 4 months so that should be nice.
Have a wonderful Christmas. I’ll try to get back for the New Year. Don’t have much else to do, right? HA!

Take care!
Love and Blessings!
Carla

Carla, I'm glad your eye surgeries were successful! I think it's as good a reason as any to miss posting here, no worries. The concert you went to sounds amazing. We really limited ourselves in regard to holiday outings this year. Just 2 parties and a concert we participated in. I'd like to blame my sciatica, pneumonia, and schoolwork, so I will.

If you visit the Wafflers' thread you'll see our Christmas plans. So far, everyone in my son's household are healthy so I won't have to worry about coming down with something else.

Happy Holidays to all the Spicy Motivators! I'll have a thread up for the New Year after I get back from our trip. 🎄

Dec 28 - Thanks for keeping us going Miss Ane!
Not much new or different here.
We had a lovely, small, short Christmas celebration with Lacy, Nick and Kolten on Christmas Eve Day. They have two foster littles for a bit and so we did it midday before they left for Mass. The littles are a tad “trying” to say the least. The adults are not getting much rest and no real sleep and they’re all exhausted at the moment. It’s very hard on them all. They’ve tried just about everything and they just have to keep trying. I gave her a couple ideas that she hadn’t thought of so we’ll see if something new works. Thankfully, Lacy does work from home so she can take the boys to daycare and then just go home and if she really is losing it, she can lie down for a minute. I feel just horrible for her. I’m sure it’s just a matter of “feeling safe” again, but who knows how long they haven’t felt safe.
Lacy, Kolten and I finally went and saw Wicked 2 For Good the other day. LOVED IT! Won’t give it away, but if you’re a Wicked fan, you have to see it in the theater first. Totally worth it. Made me happy at the end.
Now it’s time to play and get ready for the New Year! On Wednesday January 7, I will have 100 work days left before retirement. Hmmmm… smh. SO hard to believe.
Have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and Day!

Take care!
Love and Blessings!
Carla

You're totally welcome, Carla! I'm sorry the little ones are causing distress. Who knows what they have been through? They only know how to take it out on the adults around them. I need to see the first Wicked movie before I can see the second! I saw the musical ages ago but I understand that's not going to be much of a spoiler. You have a great NYE and day, too! <3

As for my goals, I probably should get in touch with my family this week. I am so bad when it comes to that! I read for fun a little bit last week and plan to do more this week. I finished all my homework for last week, including a 10-page research paper. That class is done and I'm looking forward to the one starting next week. And as for exercise? I don't think I did anything last week besides a miniscule amount of walking. But I plan to go back to the gym on the 1st. Restart myself, so to speak. :)
