Spicy Motivators 2025: April, May, June

Carla, it's nice to see your deck is begun! Yeah, that's definitely going to tear up your yard. We're about to have half our roof replaced (that hailstorm back in March) and I predict having to pick up multiple roofing nails again (this is our 3rd time getting it replaced).

I completed all my homework this week and even read for fun most days! I exercised 3 days too. :) Doing pretty ok.

Welcome back dear Anne-Marie! awesome that you can wear again your jeans. Sorry about the arthritis, keeping you and Carla in my thoughts and prayers.
Ane your book club sounds interesting, and I totally agree with you, better that you practice the clarinet, remember that practice makes perfect ;)

May has been a very busy & chaotic month, and my mouse had problems, when I tried it to go up it went down, etc., quite a mess, fortunately I solved it, but it was impossible to do anything, and the worst thing is that it failed on me exactly when I had the most things to do, seriously, I wonder why things start acting funny when you need them the most?
I'm trying to drink more water, but I've had a mild migraine for a couple of days now, so I need to consume more caffeine, anyway I've managed to keep my migraine under control. I think it's due to a lot of stress.
Wishing you all a very beautiful Monday dear ladies!

May 18 - Really pretty blah week compared to the last several. We’re in the home stretch at school so it’s nothing but getting everything done before I head home for the summer on June 12/13, Technically my last day is the 12th, but the teachers work on the 13th and they’re always and forever waiting until the last day to turn in “my stuff” so, I have to check it and make sure that everything’s signed, so I’ll be working on the 13th. I just wish they’d put it in my contract to be working on the last day so there wasn’t any question. smh… This way, I have to timesheet my hours. Whatever.
Got to walk on the decking on Friday! It’s so pretty. Not done yet, but closer and they think it will be by Memorial Day weekend. Monday they’ll be pouring the concrete slab underneath and then finishing off the top, adding the stairs and railing and trellis. WOOHOO! I'm so bummed though... we're going to have to have that one big tree... straight over there >>> taken down when they're done with the deck. We weren't sure about it last year, but it's definitely a goner.

Love and Blessings!

Carla, that's a bummer about your tree, but the deck looks great so far! We have had to have 3 trees removed since we moved here almost 13 years ago. It's not fun. We replaced 1 with a cherry tree, and should replace 1 more but so far it's a weed patch lol. That's nuts about the teachers waiting so long to get their stuff to you so you have to work an extra day. Ugh!

So I did OK on my goals this week. I got to exercise 3 times this week and read for fun most days. Just finished my homework today, yippee! My upcoming week will be nuts so I'm glad I was able to fit all that in. :)

May 25 - Pretty good week at school for the most part. Almost retired a year early, after one of the coordinators decided to take her year-end frustrations out on me for asking one of her classroom teachers for information, yet again, that I’d been asking for, for two weeks. There are only three weeks left of school and this stuff needs to get done before we leave. She wanted to try to tell me that kind words and patience would go further, while using all caps, bolding and increasing the font size on the words “we’re very short staffed here”. I told my boss about it and ended the email with, “You remember how I mentioned that I was planning on retiring at the end of next year? Well, I’m thinking about making that the end of this week. Going to go home and chat with Freddy about that tonight.” And I was dead serious. Freddy was 100% for it. Boss met me at the door to my office the next morning to make sure I was staying and to find out what we could do to fix the situation. smh. Haven’t received an apology of any kind, but I have received the information from the teacher.

And you’re just gonna LOVE this! It’s always “something”. Three of our footings “sunk”. Wtheck? Mike, the contractor, said he’d never seen anything like it. Last week we had three days of rain. We got 6 inches in about 36 hours. They really thought they’d have the deck done by this weekend, but no. So, they finally got back here on Wed. Mike goes around back and finds this! When he dug all the “goop” out of where the fill should have been, there was a hole. No idea where it “dropped off” to. Our water table is high here, so maybe they “hit” something, but that doesn’t really explain where all the fill went because they dug down danged near six feet to do the footings and then filled it with class C and dirt and packed it in tight around the mold and then filled the mold with concrete. I watched. I’m fascinated by how they “make stuff”. I even have pictures. Scrapbooking! (if I ever get around to it!) So, where did it all go? Not only that, when he got all the “goop” outta there, he could stick his entire arm underneath the concrete slab that was laid for the patio! Not a good thing. So. They’re going to pump some kind of foam stuff under the slab to stabilize that and it ain’t going nowhere, ever. lol. Good. Then, they’re going to refill around the three footings, relevel the three footings (which actually means making them a teeny bit higher than the slabs for drainage… makes sense) and, sense the “new” concrete footing tops will look slightly different than the original, they’re going to make all the footing tops look the same by just adding a little “sploosh” of concrete over each older one. OMG!

But, Harley is loving that he can go out on “a deck”. Just doesn’t have the run of it yet. hahaha!
(don't ya just love all the mud still left there, yuck! he doesn't seem to mind.)

Hope you’re having a wonderful Memorial Day.

Carla, wow about your coworker! That was unfair to unload on you! Ugh (((HUGS))) And about your deck footings . . . wow, I have never heard of something like that happening! And the fact that your contractor hasn't either, says something. What, I don't know. Can I just say that you have the weirdest stuff happen to you? I get some too, but man, why you?

This week I did all my exercising at home, in between working on a multimedia project for school and car shopping. My Jeep is probably scrap by now, and I'm hopefully test driving a new one tomorrow. I finished my other weekly homework and have been reading for fun more. I even played with Legos one night. I'm looking forward to having hubby home for another extra day (he got Friday off too).

June 01 - IT’S DONE! (well, except for the finishing on the footings) but it’s completely usable and Harley is USING it.

He loves it and is outside as much as we’ll let him! He will sit on the deck morning till night, not kidding. It has more than enough shade for him to escape to, but he actually spends most of his time “tanning”. He’s hilarious; sprawled out on his back. Looks like he doesn’t have a care in the world. I suppose he doesn’t. I got some hooks for the trellis so I can hang my chimes, bird feeders and a couple hanging baskets. OH, and at least one windsock off the end and a thermometer. Kinda weird family tradition things that we all have on our decks. Bestie didn't realize it, but she gave me some beautiful chimes when Mom died that have some verses on the tubes and a poem on the hanger. They're already out there. Went out this morning when Amazon dropped off the extension hooks. She and I are going to create a "Mommy garden" out of old tin tubs for geraniums, marigolds, and pansies with a floating fountain in the top. Already have all the makings for that, except the flowers. Just have to put it all together. One bird feeder is filled and up. Another set of chimes at the other end. I'm boiling sugar-water for the hummies right now and going shopping for my hanging plants and deck plants later this week.
I'm in heaven……. And there's the King!

NINE days left of school! But who’s counting?!?

Love and Blessings!
Carla

Wow, Carla, it looks great! And Harley looks like I expect a dog with a new deck would look--just chillin'! I love your plan for it, wind chimes, thermometer, and windsock included with your tubs of flowers. It looks like there's plenty of sun for those flowers. I hope you'll update us when the flowers are out! :)

This week I was pretty horrible about exercise. I got to the gym 1/3 days, but I worked hard while I was there. :) Yesterday I finished the book that I'd started at the DMV, lol. It's a great book, but I have a new one to read for a school project that I need to start ASAP. I read it in high school but I don't remember much, haha. I finished my homework for the week today, so I'll have a few hours to do what I want before I start that book. :)

June 08/15 - OMGosh! I had so much fun last Saturday. As I mentioned on my Waffling post, I spent all day making cards. TOO much fun. Met a bunch of new “playmates” who I will definitely see again. They host these events three times a year, I think, February, June and October. So, I’m hoping to attend more of them now that I know what they’re like and I like the outcome.

I am OFFICIALLY done with school! WooHoo! Thursday was our last day so I am on Summer Vacation for 10-ish weeks. Whew. Oh man. Feels so good. I was really worried about getting my billing complete for last fall because we only have 12 months to retro-bill, but I got it done, so I have some leeway when I start next September. Ahhhh…

Most of you have probably already seen this from the Waffling page, but Tammie and I did the flower shopping on Friday and my deck and Mommy's Garden are complete.

Fuchsia for Freddy's mom, BJ. Then my Mommy Garden is RED Geraniums and Marigolds. Tammie painted the Welcome pot and that will have a solar fountain in it as soon as the glue dries in the drainage holes in the bottom. Petunias are for my Gram. The Dragon Wing Begonias, Lantana and Lobelia are for ME! <3

I am SO happy. Now the hanging plants just have to really start blooming and the rain has to come and wash away the dirt.

Carla, I *love* your Mommy Garden! It really adds a sense of completeness to your deck. <3 Just gorgeous! And I'm so glad you're done with school for now. I could feel your stress all the way down here in the St. Louis area. (((HUGS))) Enjoy your summer--you deserve it!

As for me, my exercise has been spotty the last couple of weeks. If it wasn't one thing, it was another, from hospital stay to Eren's heartbreak . . . yeah. But I made it to the gym today at least! I've been finishing my homework on time. It was a little hairy yesterday because I had a presentation to post in the school forum and I couldn't get it to act like a video. But my prof was OK with it, so I dodged a bullet there, thankfully. I've been reading for fun a lot more this month too. I guess I just found a lot of spare time. :)

June 22 - Let’s see… WHAT did I do this last week? NOTHING! And I did it really, really well! HAHAHA!
Nah, I was actually kinda busy. Had lunch with a dear friend on Monday. Lunch with my oldest brother on Wednesday. Ran a boatload of errands and got home JUST in time to watch THE DEAD TREE go TIMBER on Thursday. Got a great video of it, but I don’t know how to add that here. This is the Vimeo of it if you want to go watch… hehehe… It less than a minute long. (https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/1095396576) Then I met a bunch of my MoMs down the street for our monthly meet-n-greet. (Moms-of-Marines) Had a card class online every night so I got a buncha new cards made this week. Always love that. Hoping to get a bunch of my past classes finished that I didn’t get to over the past year(s) over the summer. I say that every summer and I do get a lot done, but then life gets in the way.

Today I’m working on my swaps for a MN card group and then I’ll start on my team swap for July. I like the MN group because they allow retired product. Our team swap has to have all current, which is wonderful too, but sometimes it’s a bit of a chore depending on the time of year and what I have or haven’t purchased “yet”.

Forecast for next week looks like more of the same! Ahhhh, gotta love summer vacation!

Love and Blessings!
Carla

Carla, you sound so much more relaxed now that school isn't in session! I think I will watch your video. Last time I saw a tree fall, it was my neighbors' in a big storm and it took out parts of 2 fences. It wasn't dead, but maybe diseased? Anywho, I remember well making cards for swaps. I miss it, sometimes. But then I remember I'm busy with school and volunteer stuff. :)

Last week I got a lot of reading in, both for school and for fun. Gotta do something while driving for 5+ hours! I went to the gym twice last week, but not on Friday as we were traveling. But I made up for it walking around the air show!

The month is nearly over so I thought I better report what I have been doing.

The Physiotherapist I have seen three times has given me exercises for the osteoarthritis in my left hip and it has really helped a lot. The pain moved though to the outer side of my hip so she gave me some different ones. One of those I will not, now be repeating. It involves tying a resist band around my legs and squat down a little and walk sideways. The first time I did it that night I could not sleep I had a pain in my mid back. The pain went the next day so thought I would try that same exercise again and sure enough that night I was in pain again.

I am most afternoons doing one of the many 20 minute walking Youtubes I have bookmarked to return to.

So I hope you all have had a good month and that July will bring you all good health.

June 29 - I don’t have a lot to say this week. I’m really struggling with Sherri Lynne’s illness and upcoming passing. She became a dear, dear friend over the years and we met when Alexis had to be treated here in MN at Mayo. I completely understand why she’s made this decision and I’m glad that she’s able to do it in Canada. I don’t know if I could be strong enough to do that. But she’s put up with so much in her life that it really does not surprise me at all that she’s come to this conclusion. It pains me greatly, but it doesn’t surprise me. I’m just heartbroken. At this point, I’m actually praying that God takes her and they don’t have to go through with the procedure.

So that’s all I’m going to say today. Love you all.

Love and Blessings!
Carla

I am sorry for not commenting earlier. I have either been out of it or sick. Carla, I totally understand your feelings about Sherri too. Her way of passing is not something I would choose, even though I understand why she is doing it. I have not even been able to post in the other thread. (((HUGS))) to you. I wish I could have met her too.

Anne-Marie, I'm glad you have a good physiotherapist. I go to one once a month for maintenance (lower back pain) and it is awesome. I'm sorry one of the exercises gave you pain--just reading about it sounds painful.

I will create the July thread. I am sorry it's late. I just haven't had the bandwidth to do it yet.
