Hello Friends 🙂

A Very Warm Welcome to May's Photography Challenge - The Big Kids

Time spent with my grown up kids really is the best time. This photo is me and my son on a recent weekend away. I treasure each and every moment with him.

So this month, I challenge you to snap a photo of you and your grown up child. Please feel free to use an older photo if your kids, like mine, live far away and are not readily available 🙂

If you don't have children. You may scrap a photo of yourself and somebody that means the world to you.

You may use any kit from any designer here at GingerScraps. I am very much looking forward to seeing your happy snaps scrapped <3

I'm doing a little different take on the challenge. Growing up for a long time our family had three girls. Then our parents decided to try for a boy. After three more tries and 3 more girls there were no more tries for a boy. Because there was such a big gap between the three older girls and the three younger girls, we thought of us like two different families. We became known as the BIG KIDS AND THE LITTLE KIDS. Even now, decades later, we still refer to us as the big kids and the little kids. Or the big girls and the little girls.

I have no kids so I did my cousin.

Journaling:
My cousin is truly the sweetest, most caring soul I have ever known. She knows my heart so well—even down to my love for jigsaw puzzles, always keeping her eyes peeled for little ways to bring me joy. Whenever I am searching for natural remedies or just need a safe space to bounce ideas around, she is the first person I turn to. More than anything, she is always there to listen exactly when I need it most. I am profoundly grateful to be blessed with a cousin who chooses to build a deep, meaningful relationship with me, rather than just being a relative by blood. She means the world to me.

That's me and my son in the front row, my daughter and granddaughter in the second row

Thanks for an interesting challenge! We live in Indiana; our son lives in Florida now & our daughter in the Kansas City area. So I did a retrospective layout with several photos of the four of us over the years. It's always so special when we can all be together!

Loved this prompt! Any time we get to spend with our big kids is an absolute delight. It's definitely an adjustment having an empty nest, but it makes times spent together that much sweeter

I really love this. What an interesting story and take on the challenge :)

Journaling: My youngest son Nicolas is now 26. These photos were taken back on Mother’s Day 2023 … right before cancer changed everything. Nicolas has Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and through all the struggles and hard times we faced with him growing up I wouldn’t change him or anything about him. Just because he has a disability does not mean he isn’t smart; because he has shocked me at every turn. He tells everyone that during my battle with cancer he was the best nurse I ever had. This kid waited on me hand and foot, helped me with my walker, helped me get around, and I think slept with one eye open just in case I needed something through the night. When I was passing out from a low blood count this kid was running to get ice to put on my neck and my head to keep me from falling on the floor. Where did he learn that? YouTube … it’s good for something. This boy has seen more in three years than he needed to, been uprooted, had his whole life changed, his mom changed forever, in hospitals more than he would have liked. There were times when I was being rushed to the hospital and he stood there at the end of the driveway watching not knowing if I was ever going to return home. He worried, he paced and had more responsibilities on his plate than anyone his age with or without a disability; but he never complained, never blinked an eye, and never gave up on me. Just as I never gave up on him all these years. I always fought for him through elementary, middle, and high school. We fought the naysayers, the bullies, and those who truly just didn’t understand him or get to know him. This young man is my heart and my soul; I put so much into him to ensure he had a normal life just like everyone else. And he reminds me every day that no matter what cancer has taken from me I am still his mom, that will never change.

My daughter Stephanie and I at my grandson’s wedding... such a happy occasion! Covid played a big part in upsetting well laid plans, but we persevered and they were married on the town common by my daughter's Dad... all's well that ends well..

This was interesting & made me realise that I don't have any actual photos of just Phil & myself taken for years. A lot of family ones but not just the two of us. It's something I will have to remedy. These photos are of when he was married in Korea in 2013 & even then I didn't have one of just the two of us so had to cut out Jihyeon & my hubby in one of the photos.
