From Sherri’s daughter:

Any positive vibes, thoughts, prayers, manifestations, or anything else you believe in is highly appreciated right now. My mom (Sherri Lynne) has asked me to keep friends and loved ones updated. She is a previous triple cardiac arrest survivor (in 2012) and we share the same rare, genetic sudden arrhythmia death syndrome heart condition called Congenital Long QT Syndrome Type 5.

Today has been an extremely traumatic, difficult, and stressful day. My mom received 4 appropriate (life-saving) shocks from her implanted defibrillator between 1-4:30 am this morning. The Cardiac Device Clinic called us back in record time and informed us I needed to call 911 and get her to the ER immediately. She is experiencing what is known as an electrical storm, which is a life-theatening situation occurring with 3 or more appropriate shocks in a 24 hour period. She would not be alive today without her defibrillator.

While at the hospital, she experienced 3 more life-saving shocks (I witnessed 2 of them), and has been going in and out of the life-threatening arrhythmia constantly that is classic of our shared heart condition (Torsades De Pointes). It’s been extremely difficult for both of us not having any control in this situation.

After a few other less invasive interventions failed, she had surgery this afternoon for a temporary pacemaker that is inserted into her heart through her neck. We are hoping it will help break the storm, but only time will tell. I am currently with her in the ICU and she will be here with the temporary pacemaker for at least 3 more days, depending on how things go from here. Then more permanent decisions will need to be made.

We also wanted to extend our sincere thanks for all of the incredible people who have already reached out with support today. We are grateful to have all of you in our lives.

On other news. Baby Scarlett was born at 2:08am on Saturday 29th. She is doing wonderfully and mama was a champ! I will post pics when I get back :)

Big congrats to all on the safe arrival of new little person, Scarlett, Lynnie, I look forward to seeing all the wonderful LOs that will result.

Oh dear, that is such scary news about Sherri, I am always in complete awe of how she and her daughter live their lives under such trying conditions, and I am so sorry to hear about the current event. I am keeping her wrapped in the most healing of good vibes.

Talked to Sheri last night. She's doing "okay", exhausted to be sure, but alive and grateful. Thank God for the defibrillator implant that both she and Alexis have. Long QT is SO scary. I was with them in Rochester when Alexis had her second one replaced. Will try to chat with Alexis later today.

Congrats on the baby arrival, Lynnie!

Congratulations on the baby! I hate to hear that about Sheri! I am so glad that the medical interventions did what the were supposed to!!! You guys are in my prayers.

Michi, I just learned about the Savannah Banana baseball team last week. I've heard it's a hoot!

I've caught the oh-so-trendy sinus infection that's been going around our office. So now I have a deep cough and sound like a country music singer with a sultry voice when I try to talk. Ha. Hoping to kick this crud soon as I have stuff to do!

I mentioned our son's gravemarker that I designed using Photoshopped that was then cast in bronze. Here's a recent photo of it:
4-22-23_003-X3.jpg

That is a beautiful marker, Shana. It is amazing that you were able to create that using photoshop and that beautiful bronze memorialization will be there forever.

I have just been fretting about Sherri all day. I will be so happy when she posts here again.

Happy Friday, all! We are experiencing lots of rain and thunderstorms right now. By the time the storms pass us, the weathermen are predicting temps in the 90s. So I guess summer is almost here! LOL!

Thank you for the news on Sherri- prayers continue.

The grave marker is beautiful.

Lynnie -Congratulations to you and family on the arrival of little Scarlett.

I continue a struggle with that CPAP machine along with the O2 reader. Last night was a bit better. Not sure why the o2 keeps dropping and only at night.

Chatted with Sherri last night. Apparently she has a blood infection. They have no idea where she got it and this is really bad news for her as once it gets into the bloodstream, it's really tough on the organs. So, she's on some serious, broad-spectrum antibiotics for who knows how long... until they really figure out what it is and kick out of her. Monday she was really hot and the severe chills, so that may have been the start of it, but who knows. It's just not going to be a quick and easy fix.
She's tired, sore and nauseous.
THANK GOD for her internal defib because the alternative is just something I can't even bring myself to type out.
Alexis is doing "well", sort of, but was extremely traumatized by the event. She has the same genetic condition, so it's like looking in a mirror and it's terrifying. She's been having issues with her own feeds for the past year and has been struggling with a decision about what to do about it. This really brought it to a head. She losing sleep too. I've messaged her to talk or cry or scream, but I just don't know if she's up to even doing anything right now but be with her mom and wait.
Prayers for their entire family are greatly needed.

Hi everyone, I am am back from my beautiful 3 weeks in Europe and just in time for iNSD! I am looking forward to showing off all my adventures!

BUT most importantly, I wanted to send my hugs and well wishes to Sherri and her family. I heard about her hospital stay from Alexis (on FB), very terrifying! I hope to see her here soon.

Congrats on the new baby Lynnie, glad everything went well!

Shana, what a beautiful marker!

Here is an update that Alexis just posted:

Update on mom (Sherri Lynne):

They did an ultrasound yesterday to check on my mom’s heart function after everything that has happened. In most people with our shared heart condition, the physical structure of the heart is normal. It is the electrical part of the heart that behaves abnormally. My mom’s heart was structurally normal prior to this.

They discovered that her heart function (the ability of the heart to physically pump blood around the body) is decreased quite significantly. Her heart is currently working at an ejection fraction (the amount of blood that leaves the heart when it squeezes during a heartbeat) of around 35% when the desired range is 50-70%. Her cardiac troponin levels (one way to measure if damage to the heart cells has occurred) are significantly elevated as well.

Both of these things can happen after someone with our condition has many arrhythmias and defibrillator shocks back to back like she did. They told us this is a sign her heart was likely damaged by being shocked so many times and that the damage may be temporary, or it may not be. As the cardiologist said, her heart “really got a beating”.

So far, mom continues to do well with the temporary pacemaker. However, she has had more symptoms of infection the past couple of days and is really not feeling well. We have also both noticed her memory, comprehension skills, and other brain injury symptoms have been worse since everything began on Wednesday. Mom has had a brain injury from lack of oxygen since her cardiac arrests in 2012. She also doesn’t quite understand what exactly has been happening to her but is continuing to fight very hard. We’re both very traumatized by everything that has happened, and every time we hear a beeping monitor, we freeze thinking she’s about to be shocked again (it’s been all false alarms since Wednesday).

The cardiologist currently taking care of her in our local hospital is one of the same doctors who cared for her after her original cardiac arrests 10 years ago. Neither of them wanted to meet again under these circumstances but it’s been cool to see someone involved in saving her life 10 years ago.

Additionally, they have also identified the exact type of blood infection she has, and are now able to focus on treating it more specifically which is good. She continues to receive aggressive antibiotics many times a day to try to fight the infection.

Happy Monday, all! My college summer intern starts today... this is her third summer so we don't have to spend a lot of time training. I love having repeat interns! :) Hope you all have a great week! I'll be heading to Austin, TX, later this week for a family wedding this weekend. Should be fun!

Hi everyone. Sending continued prayers for Sherri. Hope she is on the road to recovery.

Karen - welcome back from holidays. I finally feel sort of normal today after our 3 wk cruise. We got back Thurs night. It does take awhile doesn't it?

My daughter painted the bedroom with old paint that had bacteria in it (from not being sealed properly last time it was used). So the mold set off my allergies (headache, chest wheezing and tightness, sore throat and sinus infection) which hopefully will settle without having to go to the hospital (no doctors here to see, so only emergency dept). She sealed it with a shellac sealer primer yesterday after washing the walls in bleach. The paint dept said this should take care of the problem and she can re-paint later this week after it all dries completely.

I finished loading photos from the cruise and can start scrapping them now. We booked our next cruise for the fall (western Mediterranean). I've never been there before so I have lots to investigate i.e. excursions, hotels, etc. Next we'll be looking at the airfares for us (we are taking Jen with us).

I have lots to do so hope I feel better quickly.

I am not doing well with this C “ crap” machine!
doctor again tomorrow.
there is too much air in it!

I am new here and don't know very many yet. I am sorry Sherri is having such serious health issues and am glad Alexis (who I do know) posted an update.

Michelle, I feel your pain with the "C Crap" machine. I don't know how anybody can stand to wear that. I can't even stand a mouth guard.

As I make my way around the forum I hope to get to know y'all better. I was having trouble with my links not linking in my gallery posts but I finally figured that out and went back and corrected this month's and last month's layouts so there is now direct links to products. And by the way, the products have been gorgeous.

Deanna, it is lovely to meet you. Welcome to our thread; it is only for the very special people here at GingerScraps - which is just about everyone, haha.

I have been spending some time with Steven, Nessa and the new baby. She is lovely. I took loads of photos today and hope I will get a chance to scrap them soon.

Hello ladies. I am finally out of bed after 3 days of sleeping a lot and feel about 70% better. Glad the virus didn't last too long. I binged season 3 of YOU while in bed. Feels like summer here with 30+ temps. Looks like I need to get back to early morning dog walks b/c it gets too hot on their feet (unless I take them to the water).

Hopefully now I can get busy with scrapping some holiday pics.

Lynnie - can't wait to see baby pics in your LOs.

Karen - where did you go for your holiday? I can't remember if you said where exactly.

Deanna - Hi, nice to meet you.

I'm watching the Big Brother finale, so gotta go :)

Continuing to pray for Sherri.

I enjoy them. It just depends on the time. Slow is usually better for me. I will check her thread.

Welcome Deanna- this is a fun group and site. Ditto on mouth guards- I couldn't when I wore braces and gag on tooth xray! I am getting better with it...it's all about the mask.

:)
I enjoyed seeing your photos on FB of the cruise. Y'all got lucky getting out with the weather. It was rough again after your ship sailed.
Hope you are feeling better.

Happy Friday!
Still crocheting- Progress on the peppermint afghan and started another- this time a chevron.

Baseball again this weekend.

I saw the doctor on Tuesday. I am now on my 3rd mask...Mask 1 was too big. Mask 2 was nose only but he said my mouth opened too much. Mask 3...might be just right -I hope so. Mask 4 is in the mail. Still too many "events' in a night so it says. I am to do an in hospital overnight sleep study and I do qualify for Inspire [procedure]. Not sure about it though.

Happy Scrapping and have a wonderful weekend.

I am heartbroken, on Tuesday, May 9th my dear Mother passed away. I am busy with the arrangements with a service being on Thursday, May 18th.

Update from Alexis on Sherri:

Update on mom (Sherri Lynne): There isn’t a good answer.

My mom is still in ICU. Unfortunately, for several days now we have been hearing about how technology is not advanced enough to have a treatment available for my mom to try to prevent a cardiac electrical storm from happening again. It doesn’t help that our specific Type of Long QT (5) is very rare and there is quite limited data on what will help.

Mom’s temporary pacemaker was removed on Tuesday morning as they were worried about it being infected if it remained in any longer. The entire plan changed that day. After conferences with multiple cardiologists in a few places, they have decided that they can’t offer us anything majorly different from before this happened. They are, in their words, “waiting until this [the electrical storm] happens again”. They have told us it is not a matter of if, but when this will happen again. They hope her current implanted defibrillator will continue to keep her alive until technology advances and treatments get better.

They’ve told us since the beginning that my mom had to have a permanent pacemaker put in, and that she couldn’t sustain life without it. However, the idea of any type of permanent pacemaker has been ruled out due to my mom being considered a high infection risk and the dangers of leads inside her heart with that. This has been her second blood infection (the first was after her original defibrillator implant that had to be removed in 2012 and she went into septic shock). A leadless pacemaker has also been ruled out due to infection risk and the fact that the model available in Canada cannot communicate with her implanted defibrillator (they are different brands), so she would be at high risk of receiving shocks when she didn’t need them (inappropriate shocks) due to over-sensing by her defibrillator.

They’ve been trying to get my mom up to a higher dosage of heart medication (beta blocker) but she has been having pauses (no heartbeat for a few seconds) and a very low heart rate.

Her ejection fraction has improved by a little bit, and any improvement is fantastic right now. My mom is starting to work with physiotherapy (she was on complete bed rest for over a week) and is trying to build her strength up. She has started sitting in the chair for short periods of time and walking a few steps in her hospital room.

Mom is very scared of being shocked again, and this has been an extremely traumatic situation for both of us.

*Please don’t tell me I haven’t tried hard enough or advocated enough on my mom’s behalf. I have done and will continue to do everything I possibly can, and this is unfortunately where we are at.

Oh goodness, Karen, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. (((HUGS))) And remember to take care of you in all your doing. Prayers coming your way.

Lynnie, thanks for the update. It all sounds so scary and Alexis is so brave. Continued prayers for them, too.

Oh my! I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to post and I am not completely caught up on all of the comments. I may take me a while!

Karen, so sorry to hear about your Mother. I know this is a very hard time for you. Please know that we are all praying for you and your family - peace and strength.

Lynnie, I am sorry that you and your mom are going through such a hard time. I do hope that things will get better and I will continue to pray for you and your family as well.

Congratulations on the new Baby! I know she is a wonderful blessing!

Karen, I am SO very sorry for your loss. Sending love and prayers for comfort and peace.

Carla, it's not Lynnie's mom. It's Sherri, from our group. Lynnie is posting updates from her daughter Alexis from FB.
