Elements 14 help

Can someone tell me how to duplicate an image in elements 14? in other versions used to be able to right click and it was right there.

If you want to duplicate the image as another layer - have the image layer active and press Ctrl+J. Another way is to have the image layer active and go to Menu>Layer>Duplicate Layer. I always use the keyboard shortcut. I did double check in PSE 2018 and the duplicate layer option is available with a right click- but only if I was right clicking in the layers panel. It didn't work if I right clicked while in the workspace area. Hope this helps.

Thank you for replying. I did the ctrl J,but where is the copy or original that I can close out to keep so I am only working on the copy? I do not see a copy anywhere, just the one in the work space

For me, I had to learn that it was on top of the layer that is highlighted. It wasn't always on the top or under the duplicate. Can you send a screen shot so we can help you?

Ah -ok. Have your photo image active in the workspace and go to Menu>File>Duplicate. It will automatically add copy to the existing file name. Click OK. You will have two copies- the original and also the copy. There are often several ways to do something in PSE.

Another option is to have the photo active but right click on its layer in the layer panel (It probably has a name of Background) When you right click on the layer in the layer panel you have more options. In the dialog box there is a Document drop down menu - choose New- and it will create a new separate document copy and name it as you like.

Third way- with your photo image active go to Menu>Layer>Duplicate Layer. You will get the same dialog box as method two. Just always choose NEW to get a completely new copy of the photo.

Thank you so much. I found it under file. I could have sworn that I looked there earlier and it was not there.Any way it is now.It is nice to know I can do it in the layer panel also.
