Clipping?

Is there a way to clip a solid colored paper to an image, let's say a multi colored fish, and keep the detail of the fish, but have it all be the same hue as the colored paper? When I use the clipping mask it just makes the fish a solid shape with no detail. Thank! I hope you know what I mean, lol!

What software are you using? In Photoshop you can change that paper layers blending mode to the "color" setting and that should do the trick...

Let me try something.... yes, I think it worked....

I pulled a doodle from an Amy Stoffel kit to try this out on. The original is below.

I selected a solid paper from the same source and tried 2 different ways to clip that solid colour to the image. But first I changed the image from a coloured one to a black-and-white one. Enhance>Convert to Black and White... or CTRL/CMD>alt>B.

I clipped the paper to the image and then decreased the opacity of the clipped paper layer until I could see the design through the colour. But the colour isn't as dark or vibrant as the paper was originally.

So then I started over, this time changing the Blend Mode to Multiply and was a LOT happier with the results.

It didn't quite match the colour of the paper so I merged the clipped paper and the doodle then repeated the process of clipping the paper to the doodle and changing the Blend Mode to Multiply.

NOW by playing with Opacity I was able to adjust the saturation of the orange to get it really close to the original solid paper colour. Does that help?

I have photoshop elements 13 I think. Thank you for the help! I'll see if I can follow those instructions!

I think Elements has a blending mode on the layers panel, where it says "normal" use the drop down to change that to "color"
