Bennie’s dream came true at age 12 when his parents purchased two tiny piglets for him. He named them Lily and Pudge. For years, he had obsessed about pigs, he researched them endlessly, drew pictures of them, cut out images of them to plaster all over his bedroom walls, he made pig sand sculptures on the beach, he was always pestering to go to the petting zoo to spend time with the pigs that were there. For gifts, he was given pig books, pig toys, pig birthday cakes, pig t-shirts. Eventually fluffy pig toys etc. simply did not cut it according to him!! He longed for the real thing. Imagine his joy the day these two tiny piglets arrived! He even got to take them to school for show and tell!! Of course, eventually they grew into huge animals but Bennie loved them every day of their lives. Lily developed a bone problem and had to be put down which was heartbreaking for everyone including Pudge. Pudge lived on alone as a beloved family pet but eventually he succumbed to health issues and was also put down. The pigs gave the family many hours of joy and fun over the years. Bennie’s parents said the decision to allow pet pigs into their family was the best worst mistake they ever made.
