My husband and two oldest daughters are looking out towards the horizon. I hold the baby in my arms. My son is happily playing in the sad. The sea is in front of us. It is calm and beautiful as the sunsets and reflects of the waves and the beach. The ocean always makes me pensive and peaceful. I do not know what our future will hold. But this moment is one I will remember.
My daughters stand with their daddy, full of trust and love. They will follow his foots steps as they are young. Trust in him to lead them in safety and love. But eventually they will step out on their own. This both thrills me for the amazing future that awaits them and scares me for the unknown. What will this life hold for them? What joys and sorrows will they experience? I hope that they will turn to their daddy and me as they do now, to help them and to guide them. But for know I just reflect on the privilege and responsibility I have to be their mother. I hope that we will always stand together. Our toes enjoying the sand and water and our lives a reflection of who we are. Written march 2019
