I created this layout for the August 2013 Brush Challenge. I love the freedom of Art Journaling and couldn't resist using the great elements and papers that lend themselves so well to this style of scrapping. :D

Awwww ... not-so-sweet sixteen is right, although you look very sweet. So sorry you had to go through at that at such a young age Nertha. Your page turned out very cool ... love the grungy papers and combination of vintage and grungy elements. The way you have the photos framed and overlapped is really awesome. Super rich colors in this ... the rusty burnt orange and the aqua tones look amazing together. I love that you kept that doll for all these years. I'm sure she was a great comfort to you in the hospital. Hugs...

I like the journaling if not so much the subject of the journaling! I love that you're smiling in the photos; it means you made the best of it and you remember the best of it. Great artsy look to the page; I'm still working on wrapping my creative brain around doing the art journaling It'll happen.

I like the paper strips and ribbons hanging down and the circle frames for the photos. I like the way the outlined title blends in but sticks out. The title is sadly appropriate for 3 1/2 months in traction. It's totally cool that you still have the doll!

OH Nertha! Gosh, Nertha, {{HUGS}} to you for documenting this time in your life, although challenging, you look darling! Look at that bright happy smile on your face, just like your avatar! You did make the most of the not-so-sweet situation and you came out of it shining!! The layout is amazing!! LOVE the grungy look and how you used the glasses as a frame. The doodled brushes look amazing how you added a style to it. LOVE, LOVE this page! So much to see and to admire :)

Awww, guys, you really made my day/evening with the love that flows from your encouraging comments! :thanx: so much for the warm fuzzy hugs, too! I am thrilled you like the page and my art journaling.
Arlene:
The overall effect of super rich color is due to my having applied the linear burning blending mode to the paper covering the layout. :D
Nani: Being as talented as you are, I have no doubt that you will master art journaling very soon. Hugs. :D
Em: I think I was too young to worry about what the future would bring, so I did what I always do, smile. :) The hospital staff and my roommates were great, so I found ways to entertain myself, especially after I learned how to knit! :D

Gorgeous colors and artistry. How difficult that year must have been for you. Your journaling is fantastic. Neat that you still have the doll and you learned how to knit.

I love the elegance of the page mixed with the artsy doodles of the brush work. You are correct it does go so well and helps tell the story. Great page.
