Interesting fact: A court drama surrounding the song "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree" (commonly known as "Kookaburra") was a landmark 2010 Australian copyright lawsuit, Larrikin Music Publishing v EMI Songs Australia Pty Ltd. It found that the famous flute riff in the 1981 hit song "Down Under" by the Australian band Men at Work infringed on the copyright of the 1934 children's campfire song. Separately from this, there was a public outcry when a school principal tried to change the word "gay" to "fun" . (internet information)
What a lot of drama surrounding a fun little kid's song

This photo reminds me of a much loved Aussie nursery rhyme entitled "Kookaburra sits in the old Gum Tree", written by Marion Sinclair in 1932. The first verse goes:
Kookaburra sits in the old Gum tree
Merry merry king of the bush is he
Laugh Kookaburra laugh kookaburra
Gay your life must be

Interesting page and journal, thanks for sharing the song and the story of the court drama. I love your photo, and the use of the papers and elements, especially the faux wood and the leaves patterned, so eye-catching, nicely done!

OK you got me singing that song in my head...I don't think I've ever seen or heard a real one but I think we all know that song!

How delightful! There he sits laughin' away...not aware that the Gum tree is sticky and he's never going to fly away. Of course, had he really been "gay" he would have worn Rainbow Lace-Up Oxfords and leaving them untied would have been no problem.

On the up side, he's still there, perched on his merry kingdom bush, laughing it up, and enjoying his Pride of Place in our gallery.

You and Mr. Kookaburra should be so pleased!
You both have done splendidly spectacular here.

Jill what a cute page, You have the best titles, love this with the music and the brackets. Also the arrow with the brad is a nice touch

Every time I see the word Kookaburra I sing that! I also would think of it when I read the elephant's child with the kolokolo bird for some reason. And it makes me think of Waltzing Matilda. Ayyway, back to your page, which really is the most important thing.... love that you shaped your title around the music notes, (although they don't play the music in case you were wondering!). I like that you added the ee to the tree. Love your arrow and all the Aussie foliage and whatnot. Stitching at the bottom is gorgeous and your mix of patterns and solids is wonderfully done. So much to look at, it would take a month.

The court drama is so interesting. I am thinking of taking @Tbear to court, myself. She is really exacerbating my drinking problem. I am going to sue for the daily replacement of my keyboard!
