Then I heard the announcer at the sumo tournament we watch avidly on tv say, "the mawashi parade" and I knew I'd found my subject as I always wanted to do a page about them.
Journaling explains it: The kesho mawashi, ceremonial belt, is worn by sumo rikishi who have reached the upper ranks. They parade into the arena wearing them at the beginning of each day of the tournament. The silk belts open out to a large apron which is heavily embroidered with thick tassels at the bottom. They are donated to each wrestler by sponsors and can cost up to a million dollars. The designs include commercial motifs representing the sponsor, or more personal ones for a specific wrestler. They are considered to be "living artifacts whose full presence is revealed when movement, posture, and ritual activate their design."

Serendipity once again ms glee...love how that word follows you around. Awesome page, super cool photos and wonderfully interesting journalling, so glad you added it to the Lo description. This page looks totally regal with the photos of those proud sumo wrestlers wearing their very unique belts placed over the dark bg which is such a great choice...adds to the feeling of regality (is that a word?), super work on the title too.
