I never looked to see how many of us there were because I enjoyed our day too much. But thinking back, there must’ve been a lot of teenage/early 20s girls who were at the mall, and NOT with their girlfriends, on Christmas Eve. I knew Christmas Eve as “Pop get’s Mom’s presents and I get free cappuccino" day!

But he got a laugh out of getting me into a mall on Christmas Eve and I got a laugh out of seeing him in the mall at all. There was a program to the whole thing. Mom quit asking for practical things for Christmas long ago. When she asked for vacuum cleaner one year my dad told her “so, go buy a vacuum cleaner. Now, what do you want for Christmas?” Dad had this beautiful old school idea that's a Christmas present for your wife was supposed to make her feel special. On Christmas Eve there were two jewelry stores he like to shop at looking for that piece or set of jewelry for his wife. He choose two pieces all on his own, knowing which one he was going to buy, and asked me for my ceremonial opinion letting me know what the right answer was when he asked. Then we would stop at the perfume counter at Hudson’s where he would buy her current favorite perfume along with a few of the matching lotions or powders. After he purchased his gifts we went to the Coffee Beanery where he had espresso and I had cappuccino and we’d joke about what Americans don't know about Italian coffee, marvel at the gifts he chose and chitchat about random things.

And then we went home and I’d wrap the presents he just bought for Mom to unwrap tomorrow morning.

That is such an awesome memory, so glad it is now recorded for you and others to enjoy down the years. Love the glittery borders making this LO even more festive and special
