#2026 June by Connie Prince Designs
Journaling:
It was the first weekend in June 2020 and in the days leading up to it, we waited with both anticipation and anxiety. The tourism industry in Fiji had ground to a halt in March as the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the globe and virtually everything was shut down in an abundance of caution. That first weekend in June, with no confirmed cases in the country and all the airports and ports closed, the government cautiously reopened travel within the individual islands. June is normally peak season in Fiji as tourists from Australia and New Zealand look for tropical vacations in the midst of their winter. Once the ability to travel was confirmed, we booked a weekend at the Raddison Blu in Denarau at local rates and rented a car to get there. The staff were wonderful, happy to have guests and with so few people there, we had the luxury of enjoying all of the public spaces in relative peace and quiet. The buffet, deck bar and swimming areas were virtually empty and it was truly a relaxing weekend away, enjoying the sun and the resort atmosphere on for a weekend. At the time, we were thankful to take advantage of the opportunity, not realizing that the “quiet” was going to last for a long time yet.
Yes that was a hard and long time. I like your journaling about the weekend you spent in Fiji and the lovely group of photos you shared. Great memory page of an uncertain time in life.
