Journaling:
April is off to a quiet start. It was Easter weekend and with my working Fiji hours, I had Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off which was a really nice break. Thursday I managed to get all the errands done and still have some time to check out the new challenges for the month. Dylan came over on both Friday and Saturday so we played two games of Warhammer 40K and he won both. I guess it’s time for me to change my strategy to get back in the win column. We made crinkle cut potatoes and potato wedges with breaded haddock on Friday and then did beef tips on garlic buttered noodles on Saturday. Easter Sunday was another quiet day. Laura sent photos of the Easter Egg hunt and apparently the Easter Bunny also managed to bring a bubble machine which was quite a hit. I made a ham with scalloped potatoes and creamed corn for Easter dinner and then we finished it off by opening one of the jars of carrot pudding from December and topping that with rum sauce. It was a much easier meal to pull together than I expected and we had enough left over for a second meal later in the week.
Rory is here to stay with us while Ellen goes skiing with her family. Rory is full of energy and makes us laugh over the strangest things. He decided that the concrete bricks in the back yard would be a good place to survey the domain from while Guinness sniffed around the perimeter. When they come in from outside they seem to have more energy than when they went out and usually they play-fight before settling down. One afternoon Rory whined a bit at the window so I mimicked him and whined back. Not a good choice - he threw back his head and howled and howled and howled - it was like he was never going to stop! He howled, we laughed and that just made him howl more! Dawn was here on Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning for Jason’s physio. I had to get a picture of the faces he makes while she does the stretching. He makes such funny faces and sounds that are a cross between pain and laughter but without the stretching he would lose the mobility he has rather than gain any more.
We also managed to get a bottle of one of Jason’s favourite wines from Australia - a Cabernet Sauvignon - and as a treat he had some mini eggs (chocolate) and a glass of wine. We both expected his sugars to be elevated the next morning but instead they were quite low a 4.8. It turns out red wine in moderation can actually prevent sugar spikes.
