The Athabascan Stickdance is held for one week every March by the Athabascan Indians of Alaska.
A potlatch in Alaska is a traditional ceremonial feast practiced by Indigenous peoples, such as the Tlingit and Athabaskan, to mark major life events, honor the deceased, and distribute wealth to strengthen community ties. Alaska Native groups each have their own way of celebrating potlatches.
On our cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage, our first stop was Ketchikan where we had the pleasure of visiting Potlatch Park, a popular tourist site featuring totem poles and a clan house and witnessed artists carving new totems.
