Honestly, i have never had these for breakfast. Growing up, I'd go to my grandparents' home every Friday after piano lessons and I always tried to talk my Grandmom into making these for dinner. She canned her own peaches so Grandpop liked them with peaches and I preferred honey. Either way, these are delicious AND yes, they are like the ones from carnivals, etc. But this recipe was passed down from my Great Grandmom who came here from Germany when she was 18. The photo is me, my mom, my grandmom and my great grandmom.

here is the recipe .. please keep in mind that the measurements were passed down so you must pay attention to the consistency of the batter!
German Funnel Pancakes
Note: these are not exact amounts; you need to pay attention to the texture
2 cups flour
4 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ cups milk
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Separate the four eggs. Put the yolks in with the flour. Beat the whites well and save to add last. Add milk to the yolks and flour while beating. When batter is smooth, add the whites.
You will need to cook these in enough Crisco so that the pancakes swim. (After cooking, the Crisco can be drained and reused.) To make sure the Crisco is hot enough, break off a piece of bread and drop into oil. If it browns quickly, the oil is hot enough.
Once oil is hot enough, drizzle the pancake mixture into the hot oil and cook until browned. Drain on hot paper toweling. Shake confectioner’s sugar over top of pancakes or serve with honey and fruit.
