I took piano lessons as a kid, but never tried a string instrument. My guy figured a ukulele would be easier to play than a guitar (now in our "old" age) and he got me involved with it too. It's fun, but frustrating at times.
I believe any instrument is frustrating at times. It sounds like you have made a lot of progress in your abilities between then and now. It must be fun to be able to brighten someone's day with your music.
