Of course they had to attend a parent-teacher conference, as well. I was 4 when I started kindergarten. On the first day, the teacher was explaining to her new pupils what a fun time we were going to have this school year - we were going to learn the alphabet so that we could learn to read, and we were going to learn to count. I announced that since I already knew how to count and I could read, I wouldn’t be back the next day. I don’t think she believed me, but then neither did my parents when I first told them that I could read. They hadn’t taught me, but my dad read to me every night and I guess that was how I learned. I was three when I told my parents at the dinner table about something I had read in the newspaper. They both tried to get me to admit that I heard it on the radio or heard someone talking about it. Dad finally got the newspaper and told me to read something he pointed out. I did, much to their astonishment. Mom said she had seen me thumbing through her True Romance magazines but didn’t think much about it. After dinner that night, Mom said she gathered up all her magazines and put them on a high shelf in her bedroom. I went to school the next day.

I just love your title work. So fun! Great photo and lovely clustering by it. Fantastic journaling too.

It is so amazing the way that we learn to read. I think that when our parents read to us regularly when we are little, we are more likely to be early readers. And me, to this day, I am still a voracious reader.

Fantastic page @fl_connie! Really enjoyed reading your story behind "going back to school"! The kit you used compliments the photo so beautifully. And its wonderful you have that photo! Thanks so much for sharing! ♥

Oh wow, that's a remarkable accomplishment! Well done!!! I love your journaling and the photograph is gorgeous!! I find old family pics to be such a treasure! No doubt your family will love and treasure this layout as part of the heritage albums.

I love your journaling! It is so detailed, and as a former teacher, it just brings me so much joy to know that you learned to read at a young age, and you loved it!! Your title made me chuckle! Love how the blues and soft colors of the kit give your page an old look as something that has been in the drawer hidden away for so many years and finally brought out . Beautifully done!!!!
