there are a couple elements from Kae Lynn Winn

here is the recipe:
GROUND BEEF BARBECUE
3 pounds lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
5 ribs celery, finely chopped
1 ½ teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard seed
3 ½ cups catsup

Brown meat. Remove any excess grease. Transfer meat into slow cooker.
Add all remaining ingredients, stirring well to blend. Cover and cook at Setting #3 (low) for 6 to 8 hours or at Setting #5 (high) for 3 to 4 hours. Reduce heat to Setting #2 (low) for serving.
Yield: 20 servings

NOTES FROM LISA: I have used a beef pot roast or a pork roast (up to 4-5 pounds) instead of the ground beef and like it better. I don’t cook the roasts first at all – just put them in the cooker without browning them or cutting them up --and add the other ingredients on top. (Catsup goes on last, on top of the other stuff.) They are so tender that at the end, they just pull apart. I also don’t use the mustard seed and instead of the prepared mustard, I use ground dry mustard. This SAYS it yields 20 servings but they must be 20 TINY servings! For my family of 4, I can get two meals out of this plus a little extra.

This recipe comes from Current’s “Slow Cooking for Fast Meals” published in 1991.
