Kit: Totemly Awesome by Kristmess Designs
Totems of the West Coast of Canada tell the history or story of a tribe or person or family of the tribe. This totem is in Vancouver, British Columbia and tells the story of Rose Cole Yelton and her family. This family was the last to live in the area.
Each of the symbols on the totem represent part of the person's history:
The Thunderbird is for the carver's daughter
The Human Face between the wings represents the men of the family.
The Raven - the carver was adopted by the Raven Clan in the late 1970's.
The Wolf - for the carver's son
The Killer Whale (being held by the Wolf), is in memory of the ferry trips they took with his grandmother where they would see the whales
Woman holding Bones for the carver's mother, Rose Cole Yelton, and the bones representing an Indigenous bone game.
WOW! Interesting journaling and layout! Great photos, love the busy cluster and the stitching holding it altogether!
