During a visit with grandson Aiden and partner Clare, we toured the site of this historical prison. The most well known bushranger in Australia was buried in the grounds of this prison, his remains having been exhumed and returned to family members after the grave was located and identified as his during demolition work.
Until its closure in 1997, Pentridge was Victoria’s central prison and the most well-known and used gaol in the State’s history. Most of Victoria’s convicted and notorious criminals were gaoled there between 1900 and the 1990s. The 19th century prison buildings have a monumental scale and austere style, expressive of the requirements of containment and order. The front entrance gate was designed like a medieval fortification. Constructed from ashlar bluestone, much of it quarried on site, the building was imposing and grim – intimidating in scope and severe in purpose. While buildings deemed of historical significance have been preserved, other parts of the gaol complex were demolished and the redevelopment of the site transformed the former prison into a residential and retail precinct, including a shopping center, cinema, and piazza. After our tour,we enjoyed a delicious brunch in one of the trendy eating places in the Plaza...Wikipedia
Fantastic page! I love the photo treatment of the Watch beneath your journaling. The ghostly images with your descriptive journaling really makes this site very serious - and then you add your delightful clusters and end your journaling with a lovely brunch! So fantastic!

What a fraughtful tale! I'm so glad there is a lavender blouse and golden lunch treats, cuz I needed just that spot of color for relief. The tone on tone chiariscuro (sp?) is so appropriate, and the ghostly figures behind your text sell it well. I'm amazed at the dark flowers and foliage, and like especially the interplay of delicate and sturdier twists and loops. The bracket placement is also most glitherable!!

What you have done with the background on here is so neat. I like the informative journaling that you did, and I must admit, at first glance, I thought it was a castle.

As part of the Praise Team I am obligated to say:
My God, this is depressing...bleak...life draining...despair circling into never ending gloom...
just like a prison...Brilliant!

Oh Jill what a super creative page, love how you have the men behind your journaling and the fact that you were able to get your shadows to be so fantastic on the dark paper is just brilliant. Your scrapping always give me such joy

The journaling on this page is extra-fabulous and fascinating! I love the blended picture behind it and beside the title. The colors are so perfect for the walls of the prison and simply gorgeous clusters really make everything goosebumpy. The blended title is just perfect. Love the use of the brackets and the zaggy edges.

This is such a neat page!! Love the photos and the darker scrapping choices that go so well with your theme. Beautiful work, and wonderful use of the challenge font!
